And if that site has no servers/presence in the UK? I don't think a country wide law has international capacity, unless it is made into a treaty and then it only affects those countries it is in effect. Also, I don't know about the UK, but here in the US we ruled that an IP address is not adequate means of Identification.
Heh, that's a good point - I was thinking more in terms of seizure of computers/phones etc. should they find that they were uploaded from those addresses - But yeah, you're right there.
Revenge porn is greasy. It reinforces why your ex broke up with you in the first place.
Heh, that's a good point - I was thinking more in terms of seizure of computers/phones etc. should they find that they were uploaded from those addresses - But yeah, you're right there.
The problem is, an IP doesn't link a user to a device. Especially with dynamic IPs. An IP doesn't even identify a device in terms of on a home network. The most you can do is find the bill payer. [editline]12th October 2014[/editline] Once I got IP banned from facepunch.com because my mobile network operator assigned me the IP of someone who had currently been banned.

Just because you're an ex doesn't mean shit. It could just as easily been a friend trying to be 'funny'.
Being weird isn't a ban reason.
Tell that to ryu-gi Wait, I think technically, that ban reason was "my god you're a freak"
The supply of amateur porn is going to go down while the demand is going to go through the roof. Why does the government have to intervene in the amateur pornography market?
ok because the usual responses have already been levelled i get the icing on the cake: because if theres one thing the uk has an abundance of its quality amateur pornography
Eh, two years in prison seems a little much. Still nice to see some action against it, though.
2 years would probably be for the most extreme case, like ruining someones career and consequently life with revenge porn.
can't we perma this guy already
No! The porn threads wont be the same!
No! The porn threads wont be the same!
all the better

Wouldn't this fall under blackmail?
what about porn movies where the plot is revenge think Death Wish but with porking
Wouldn't this fall under blackmail?
They're not asking for money or any favor whatsoever so it'd be more like defamation I think
yet another difficult to prove law that will hurt more innocent people than damage the perpetrators
here's a super common scenario. a chick shares nudes with her boyfriend, breaks up with them, then sees her nudes circulating around on facebook a while later. who could have possibly done that?
I think it's possible to prove who uploaded the images in a lot of scenarios, but you also need to take into account scenarios where it isn't as simple as if X then Y. For example, girlfriend sends her boyfriend nudes, boyfriend leaves his phone lying around and his best friend in the entire world Dickface McDickfacington has a little peek, sees the images and bluetooths them over to himself then with total disregard for everything other than his own dickish antics, uploads them online. The girlfriend would know she only sent the images to her boyfriend, the boyfriend would be unaware of them being given to anyone else as they were taken without permission but would know he himself didn't do it. But it would seem as if he did it, especially if they'd broken up by the time Dickface uploaded the pictures. Additionally if your phone or laptop or anything like that gets stolen and like a normal human being you haven't properly encrypted everything on it, the dick who stole your shit might upload the images if and when he finds them, because he's a dick. At the same time it's easy to just say this is what happened and hide or destroy your offending shit and then short of you being an idiot and uploading the images using your home computer with a static IP address using account details that all point back to you, how do you prove it was you or the made up thief? I also think of note, the title of the article is too focused on one issue and as a result presents an incomplete representation of what the new legislation is about. That is to say that it isn't solely about curtailing revenge porn, it's actually about stopping posting nude images of other people without their consent, regardless of whether it was revenge and regardless of whether you were ex-partners or even partners to begin with. At least that is what I gather from reading the legislation.
all the better
Nah, but he's like, one of the top experts on hot chicks.
what the fuck? The original one had porn everywhere in it.
Then what did you call the original dragon megathreads? The original one had porn everywhere in it.
yeah that wasn't that long ago relatively speaking and i don't think it started out with porn it started out like megathreads way back when, where it was just some big pseudo-satirical info thread. then 3 pages go by and a you get dragons fucking cars from SA as a joke. some people thought it was funny some people were weirdly, legitimately turned on by it and started posting legit dragon porn, i guess maybe that was about the time this place started to get really weird.
Good. Revenge porn is stupid, and whoever actually leaks/posts nudes of people without their consent online tend to be backwards assholes, it's a betrayal of trust as well as an extremely stupid and asshole-ish thing to do. The sad reality of the world is (for both genders, though usually females) leaked nudes can destroy careers. There's nothing wrong with taking nude or sexual explicit photos of oneself, but the fact that it can ruin reputations and careers is a harsh fact of this world, if said photos get leaked or posted in places. This applies to any career from office worker, to teacher, to film actor, to journalist.
Why is this being rated dumb? I am not advocating revenge porn, but it would be incredibly difficult to police something based on a context you have no knowledge of.
well all your internet devices would be seized and examined, if that didn't prove anything then they'd probably request your internet data. if all that lead to nothing then there would be no evidence and you wouldn't be charged
NO WHY Seano12 was like the best fucking poster holy shit
Nah, but in all seriousness he was a funny guy. Though just stupid 90% of the time. I don't know if he was meant to be like, a great guy before, but he fucked up pretty bad to get permabanned.
NO WHY Seano12 was like the best fucking poster holy shit
uh-huh, right.
here's a super common scenario. a chick shares nudes with her boyfriend, breaks up with them, then sees her nudes circulating around on facebook a while later. who could have possibly done that?
Criminal offense requires proof beyond reasonable doubt though. Essentially you often need to tie the offender to the deed to convict them. An example would be to get a witness statement who says - yeah, he gave it to me after they broke up. Another important thing is the needd for malicious intent - hey person c, check out how hot person b, who I am dating is right noww. Person c then widely circulates them - person a, didn't have malicious intent. As always, criminal law is a bit less cut and dry and you do need to cross a number of hurdles, particularly if it can result in incarcerceration. You very often need a causal nexus.
Thank god Seano got banned, his post in the hot girl thread were really unnerving. Revenge porn is horseshit, I know a victim of it. Ruined how people look at her. Amazed this wasn't illegal yet.

Needs to start happening in America cause way too many people capitalize on money through this kind of porn.
can't we perma this guy already
I am the hero Facepunch deserves. First DainBramage, now seano (also I incited an idiot cull once)
