If there was no knife shouldn't the person who called the police in be charged as well?

Why would you charge someone who reported suspicious activity or anything for for being wrong?
It is a police officers job to investigate calls and all that. We should encourage people to report stuff rather then not do anything. Charging a caller would only discourage people.

Ever hear of the saying "the one bad apple that spoils the basket"?

Every system has `bad apples`.

At some point, we need to acknowledge that the problem isn't just "a few bad apples" but a far more widespread condition. There is a large number of police officers who are outright abusive, and a larger number who are at best willingly blinded by the Blue Code of Silence.
You have to begin considering if it is just a few bad apples or if it is a disease in the tree.

Yeah, but there is a LOT of bad apples.
I'm going to fucking strangle the person who started this apple shit in police brutality discussions.
Okay, am I the only one who is a bit confused?

Uhhh, how exactly were they able to extract the video, if the video recorder was turned off?

I doubt Police are able to turn off all the recording equipment in their car short of unplugging everything. I think that means he MEANT to turn it all off, but only succeeded in turning off the audio and was unaware that video was still rolling. Atleast, that's my guess.
How the fuck does a cop just go out on a limb and tell himself "I'm gonna beat the shit out of this guy" then turn off video.
Let's not forget the other dumbass cop who walked over just to tase the guy in the face when it was completely unnecessary.
This is disgusting.
These news articles make it harder and harder for me to believe that American cops aren't all power hungry assholes.
I know they're not, it's just disturbing how many of these cops there are.
Hey look another bad apple.
This shit is exactly why people are saying "FUK DA POLEECE". Honestly, there's a pretty large amount of asshole cops out there(one arrested my friend in KC for riding a skateboard in a store, and actually snapped his board right in front of him, my friend doesn't even live there). But i know a larger amount of nice cops. I honestly hope that the charges on the older guy get dropped and the cop fired and imprisoned for a time.
Just another day in Melbourne.
Please, don't call them cops. It's a derogatory term for a police officer. The things you learn.
Also, I hope this officer gets the shit beat out of him with a bad and hot lead down his throat. These kinds of officers should be stripped of their dignity. Or, what's left of it after the trial.
every cop in that department who sits by and allows these things to go on is a bad cop as well.
EXACTLY
I was waiting until someone would lay this out on the table. For all those who are defending the "media only showing bad apples" statement: This is what they mean when it's just not one bad apple. Yeah there's a rotten apple, but when you look at the whole tree, the branches, the leaves, the trunk and even up to the roots that created that very single apple you will see something horribly wrong with our society, justice system and the police force we depend on.
It's so bad that the victim was charged? That's a whole 'nother bunch of trees.

Is it really that hard to fire people?
People say that bad apples ruin the basket, but perhaps we should take a look at the orchard, hmm?

Every time I see one of these stories, I think back to that product, and I shake my head. We have the tech to force all cops to be immediately publicly accountable now, and the benefits of it outweigh the implementation costs (reduced firings and legal shenanigans). More proof the field's corrupt where it matters, I guess.

Anyone who tries to pass this off as "Oh, we don't have a police brutality problem, the majority of cops are good, etc" needs to shut the fuck up. He turned off the video equipment, beat an old man with dementia, and only had to write an apology, like he was a fucking elementary school student writing a 'plan'.
Yes, the majority of cops are good. No shit, Sherlock, that's their fucking job.
But there are way too many stories of police brutality here to leave it up to just freak occurrences. Hell, half of the issue is the fact that when there is police brutality, all too often they get off with almost no punishment.
Can we ignore the fact he is a cop and just say he is a person who did a bad thing and should be punished? I hate how many people leap to a person's defense just because of their job.

Not really. It's not like call em fucking pigs.
and uh beating someone and pouring hot lead down his throat sounds a little extreme
