• Comcast to buy Time Warner Cable

So are they buying all of Time Warner or just the cable part of the company? Because Time Warner is Warner Bros, who own DC comics. Which means Comcast could own Batman.

Aw crap, the only ISPs where I live are Time Warner and AT&T, looks like I'm gonna be completely out of options soon.
My internet was bad enough with insight until twc came along and bought it it was terrible for a while there but now it's ok, please not another switch
Well I still got EasyTether for my phone, eat it Comcast.
Just the cable part.
Well disaster averted.
This helps my job working at Comcast so I for one actually welcome the buyout. Besides, TWC are bigger assholes than Comcast are, especially to their own employees. Comcast is actually really legit and a great place to work and the products are great, when they work right.
I don't get it, when I moved I switched from TWC to Comcast. I'm paying $10 less per month but getting twice the speed, and have never had any service problems over the course of a year, and have gotten my rated speed 24/7. No problems whatsoever (except for some hookup problems, which were fixed within an hour). On the flip side, I've had to call up TWC for limiting my 25 mbit connection to <5 mbit for absolutely no reason over 10 times. I call, get shuffled around (or disconnected and called back the next day), and they fix it. By the time they hung up, it went back down to 5, every single time. They refused to send anyone out to look at the lines. Eventually I just gave up calling, but thanks to the HOA-enforced oligopoly, we had literally no other choice in the area, not even DSL. On more than one occasion they instructed me to disconnect my router and not to reconnect it because they don't allow residential services to be used by multiple computers (although this did nothing to resolve the speed issues). And yet people bitch about Comcast.
Google can you get Fiber to the entire US like right now please?
I hope you enjoy the frequent throttling and modem resets as much as I do. All aboard the Concast train!
Oh fuck this, my faith in our antitrust regulatory system is dead and buried if this gets approved.

Summary of thread imo: Both ISPs are great in some areas and terrible in others big surprise It's pretty shite here but Comcast is even worse where I live. Fuck me.
All I've ever heard about comcast is that they have shitty service, but they have pretty good speeds, and I don't think they throttle or have data caps...so where's the prolem?
All I've ever heard about comcast is that they have shitty service, but they have pretty good speeds, and I don't think they throttle or have data caps...so where's the prolem?
Comcast does have caps.
Google can you get Fiber to the entire US like right now please?
And have one entity control everything? No thanks.
Well this means EA games will probably only make it to 2nd place each year in the 'worst company in America' contest because this merger is more evil than if Sauron combined with Voldemort.
Google can you get Fiber to the entire US like right now please?
Fuck Google Fiber, i'd rather have that Vermont ISP that's offering 1Gbps for $35 a month.
And have one entity control everything? No thanks.
Nope, ive been on record of saying that i gladly accept Google as supreme overlord.
Stable my ass, we constantly have to call them out here to fix the Internet and every time they come up with a different excuse to charge us for it. But it's either that or com cast (boy monopoly sure is fun.)

at&t has always offered free home repair services for me, that is very odd. also, the cable between your house and the road may be damaged, i had similar issues and att had to replace mine (for free)
Everything from the "House Box" to the pole the company should cover free of charge unless your some type of idiot where you burn your drop to your house while having a bonfire(Which I've seen first hand). House box is where the drop from the cable tap from the pole or underground pedestal come to your house meets up into a box. One thing with coax cable and losing signal is that if you replace a spliter, barrel, or cable you could have signal loss. These modems and cable boxes have a minimum of maximum signal they can operate in. If you were to replace a 2 way spilter with a standard US 4 way you could drop below that minimum signal and not get anything internet, phone, and/or cable.
ive never had an issue with comcast so idk what the big deal is
When I was contracting for Charter. I heard that Charter in Wisconsin along with Comcast were trying to work out a deal to buy up their presence in Wisconsin.
we know its the wiring outside, but they refuse to ever replace it and rather try to charge us for wiring inside that keeps getting replaced every four months. either that or they send a new modem that breaks after a month.
What they should of done if they didn't was replace the drop after the same issue occurred. I seen squirrels chew threw the wire as if they were on speed. That's a pretty common problem in areas with large amount of oaks trees around here.
As a current TWC customer, I don't see how they could possibly get any worse, so I'm not too worried. I live 20 minutes outside Austin and TWC is the only provider I can get.
I also live outside Austin and have had to deal with their shit since the late 90s. Every year they jack their rates up at least $5 (with this last year being an exceptionally steep $20) and do absolutely nothing to improve the speed or quality of their service. They also had the audacity to recently start charging rental fees for cable modems (which is like an additional $6 a month.) They send out letters every year when they have their rate hikes with a long winded and fake apology "we're sorry your rates are going up because ESPN and other content providers wants to charge us more for programming" Uh when the flying fuck does ESPN have anything to do with internet service? Rate hike the people that buy cable TV service, not everyone uniformly just to be scumbags. I pay $75/mo for 15/2. It literally can't get any worse than what it is. I honestly don't care if TWC gets bought by whoever, they're dickbags that need to roll over and die already.
we know its the wiring outside, but they refuse to ever replace it and rather try to charge us for wiring inside that keeps getting replaced every four months. either that or they send a new modem that breaks after a month.
I had that problem where they'd keep sending me new modems that would have the transceiver blow out after about a week of use. It only took them 6 different technicians over the course of two weeks and a box full of dead modems to figure out that one of the four multiplexed signals on their cable line was blasting my modem with 100 times the signal strength it was otherwise supposed to get. Then it took them an additional week with bucket trucks all over the neighborhood to finally fix the problem.
get bent comcast buying out twc is the worst
TWC can get fucked because I tried to get a job with them before Comcast, and they turned me down, I consider this Karma. As much as I respect your opinion, I'll stick with mine due to my history with both companies.
TWC is really good in my area. I get 50/4 with no service interruptions, first time I had the problems they didn't bullshit me and they knew what they were talking about and gave helpful advice. That coupled with the no data cap and the ~100$ price (great price for the speed in my area) this sounds like it could end badly for the service here. [editline]13th February 2014[/editline]
TWC can get fucked because I tried to get a job with them before Comcast, and they turned me down, I consider this Karma. Evidence in the thread suggests TWC nor Comcast are run by the same people everywhere.
it's kinda funny... in our area, comcast turn to insight, and insight got bought out by time warner cable, and now if this happen, it's back to comcast, what an odd circle... rumors been going on that people are fleeing from time warner cable because of how awful the bills and pricing is on their TV services.
no one likes a brown noser because you were declined they are bad? that sounds like brown nosing to me
They provide me with a job that opened up opportunities in life I never had before, it's called being grateful for having a good job for a company that cares about their employees which I never experienced before. I get pissed too when my cable takes a shit or my web crawls down to a meg a second, but I'm not going to come in here and say "Comcast is shit" when they are the reason I can make an honest living. You might bite the hand that feeds you minimum wage, but I'm very happy with my job, even if you and other Facepunchers aren't. When it comes to me declining Comcast is bad, I'm not. When it comes to the services they provide they're both basically the same. Comcast raises rates on all of their plans, unless you're at the retardedly expensive every-day price. If you're in a contract you'll get one rate for the first year, and in the second it goes up 20 a month. After the second year it goes to every-day price which from a 99.99 double play goes to 144 a month before equipment. Time Warner is similar but their services are usually a bit cheaper and their early termination fees are more expensive. You pick your favorite of the evils and stick with them, get better deals over time and try to force them to grandfather a plan you enjoy, then never change. I'll tell you I'd only want Comcast for internet, I'd never pay for their cable service, nor would I ever want or need their home phone.
