Oh no! How dare the US Government shut down websites that were selling counterfeit merchandise and require them to provide proof it's not counterfeit to get their website back! Assholes!
The government should be proving it was counterfeit and then requesting a statement from the owner of the website.

They obviously violated the rights which caused the shutdown.

Oh please do forgive me for wanting to give the US the finger when it thinks it has the right to police the whole world.
If there is no point in streaming the game because there is a better quality service just next door then there's no point in mobilizing the U.S government to remove them.
Perhaps because that's breaking the law?
Before and after the game, the NFL states that any use of their telecast is prohibited.
They don't have the right to do this. The copyright laws did not pass, and it's going against a few amendments. Plus if they start now it's only going to get worse.
First of all, the domain seizures are under the DMCA, and you don't have rights to sell counterfeit items or have unofficial streams.
'SOPA and PIPA didn't pass? Oh well fuck the people take shit down anyway!'
While I don't understand the reasoning behind taking down the illegal streaming (which is probably due to copyright laws, but even then it's fairly shaky) but taking down sites selling counterfeit crap is pretty understandable. You'd expect the government to deal with a company selling cheap knockoffs and treating them like the real deal, what difference does it make if the way they sell their stuff online?

I have a funny feeling these reports of websites being shut down are becoming more common because the media's realizing stories about sites being shut down by "The Man" are quite popular right now. The government's still doing this even though SOPA and PIPA didn't pass because, surprise surprise, these shut-downs have absolutely nothing to do with the legislation in SOPA or PIPA.
I wounder who's playing the superbowl. My care is that little.
Why is homeland security involved anyway? Is football that important to our national security.
Not proven, but taken down anyways? Wow
Yup.Americans finally need to wake up and start a revolution.

Facepunch going down because of all the copyrighted images and use of counterfeit programs
This is a prime example of too much funding given to our police, they're so bored they're doing this shit. For who? THE FUCKING NFL IS THE FBI NOW?

It's really quite frightening how much power the Federal government has.
It's really quite frightening how much power the Federal government has.
Not really. The thing that makes it the federal government is the power it wields.
You aren't a part of that silly group of people that holds the belief that the states should have more sovereignty and basically get to act as their own separate countries like they did under the Articles of Confederation are you?
You should be more concerned about the private entities that are buying out the federal government, its employees, and its respective agencies- attempting to use them as tools to enforce their own personal interests (case in point: SOPA/PIPA) rather than the interests, rights, and freedoms of the entire nation and its people at our expense (and, indeed, often the expense of the rest of the world).
While I'm not happy about the streaming sites being removed, the other sites were selling counterfeit merchandise. They were totally justified in taking them down.
america is corporate run
you just cant deny it anymore
Guilty until proven innocent, the American way!
