This pretty much outlines when you can see it, and where you can see it from.
I don't even have to wake up early or stay up late to see it.
I feel bad for the Portuguese, and the western Africa and South American people.
For quick glances without a telescope, pick up No. 14 welder's glass from a welding or builder's supply store. Shade No. 14 is specialized glass, so don't be surprised if it's a special-order. Count on spending about $10 for a 2" x 4¼" filter, the size that usually fits into a set of welder's goggles. Be sure to hold it in front of your eyes, covering them completely, before looking at the Sun.
Yes, it works. I prefer using a Fresnel lens for a larger image.

I've seen the same thing done just using 2 pieces of paper, one with a small hole in it. But using binoculars would magnify it, making it much easier to see.
Wow. I caught the first one back in 2004.
I guess that makes it a twice in a lifetime experience for me, eh?

Oh great. My city is exactly in the Transit in progress at sunrise and entire transit visible.
Now I'm not sure which is right.
Also, I heard you can make some ghetto solar glasses with an unused/unprocessed 35mm film.
spaaaaaaaace
