Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto said to media representatives in a group interview at E3 that the Osaka-based games maker has plans to develop a Street Fighter 5, and that it would not only fully utilise the unique features of online gaming, but also attempt to broaden the player base by making it more accessible for newcomers.

"We'd like to steer away from making the next game such that skilled players will win, but unskilled players will lose almost instantaneously," Tsujimoto said. As a means to achieve that (prevent unskilled players from losing instantaneously), Capcom is looking into possibly implementing some kind of pay-for-advantage system in Street Fighter 5 that will allow new players to cover for their lack of skill in matches.
http://www.sponichi.co.jp/society/news/2014/06/11/kiji/K20140611008345230.html http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2014/jun/11/capcom-looking-developing-street-fighter-5-ps4-and-xbox-one-focusing-helping-beginners-considering-pay-advantage-models/ If they keep this idea planted in their minds during development you can say RIP for the Street Fighter series.
so, be skilled and learn the game... or pay for an infinite/instant/auto-lock/unblockable hadouken powerfist.
Fuck Me, i thought even Capcom wouldn't commit a Franchise to Oblivion like this.
Aw dont want to learn how to play the game and get better? Well you go wittle baby that will be 4.99
how is Capcom not going bankrupt fast already? I don't even like SF but I seriously feel bad for fans, the series is officially dead if this is even partly true. Oh my god. There is no climbing out a hole like Capcom is digging right now. They have awakened the damn monster that is angry fans.
As a means to achieve that (prevent unskilled players from losing instantaneously), Capcom is looking into possibly implementing some kind of pay-for-advantage system in Street Fighter 5 that will allow new players to cover for their lack of skill in matches.
can't wait for players that are insanely good at the game to exploit this and utterly shit on everyone who is both unskilled + poor It's meant to be arcade, it's meant to be fast, it's meant to be button mashing and instant strategy. You have to know your opponent but if you can just pay to win, what is the point? That's cheating, that totally misses the point of the game. But in any case, is there another source? there is no way this is true, this breaks every single point in a fighting game in the first place.
Fuck Capcom
Don't you fucking dare... DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE!

I get the intention but if you can pay to cover for your lack of skills, what do you learn? That's right:
who the fuck in capcom thinks this a good idea? SF pretty much made fighting game what they are today so they of all people should know this idea is stupid as fuck
This is the most hilariously stupid thing I've seen all day. How did this line get past PR? Who thought this was a good idea?
This is the most hilariously stupid thing I've seen all day. How did this line get past PR? Who thought this was a good idea?
You can cater to the lazy parts of your audience while also making money. I'd be more impressed if it didn't pass PR.
capcom following their prior form of sfxt fucking sf4 was a fluke wasn't it
Dear Capcom, Fuck you.
Paying for advantages in a skill-based game is both the most genius and most retarded thing I've heard this week.
Paying for advantages is fucking stupid because it means you'll start to reply on those instead of actually learning how to play. Hell, i started Street Fighter IV AE like a week ago with a controller and i've already gotten decent enough to match my hardcore fightstick using friend, it's all about just trying your best and playing with people that'll give you good feedback. Nothing will replace trial and error.
fucking sf4 was a fluke wasn't it
nope, it did well, and still doing pretty well with their expansions.
I'll stick to third strike till the end of time
Honestly, even if it's false or wildly taken out of context, it wouldn't surprise me. With all the mobile games filled with 'buy this to skip this' and awkward attempts at partial-paywalls Capcom's been putting in them, along with not doing too hot lately financially, it would not be out of character for their stupid head executives to P2W Street Fighter up if they think they can get away with it. It's their most popular franchise now, and it's been pretty obvious alone with the various re-sells/versions of SF4 that they're trying to cash on the same base game multiple times, even if the various versions add new characters and features along with major tweaks and balances.
Oh go get fucked by a horse, Capcom. These are heretical thoughts, and should not be embraced as anything other than terrible.
Time to lame out an entire franchise like it was Cross Tekken.
I don't even like fighting games and I think this is fucking stupid. The entire point of fighting games, and incidentally why I don't like them, is skill. Pay to Win undermines that completely.
confirmed not happening https://twitter.com/Yoshi_OnoChin/status/476840797719904256
How about do what most ARTS/MOBAs do and have a matchmaking system that use a rating system to determine who you're up against.
Don't worry they still value them as a charact- oh
Wasn't that Inafune's idea?
Wasn't that Inafune's idea?
Yeah he once said that he always wanted to see bad box art megaman in a fighting game. After he left Capcom the devs of sfxt fulfilled his wish by adding him to the roster,
I still don't see why Capcom doesn't just develop a new Mega Man game. It's basically money that's sitting on the table, and Capcom's refusing to take it.
How about do what most ARTS/MOBAs do and have a matchmaking system that use a rating system to determine who you're up against.
it already does.
There's better ways to make up for lack of skill in fighting games. BlazBlue had a "Stylish Mode" that basically made the game do short combos for you if you landed a hit, but that feature came with the game anyway.
"We don't want people to learn and get better at the game."
