I really love the Venice flag:

Damn commies, taking Italy too now! But honestly, i don't think they will be taken seriously. Most of these people are illiterate racist fucks.
But i'm already seeing the big picture. Vatican City-Venice empire.
Smart move for Veneto. Italy is a very divided country, already has two isolated states in its peninsula. Moving from one region to another often does feel like moving country, especially in the north where there are lots of places where people speak french and german.

How do you expect a 3rd grader to draw that.
An independent Venice just seems like a place that would be a big tax haven.

You people really like countries getting independence, except if it's a English-speaking country.

Yeah fuck all those english-speaking Crimeans!
which you will need, because venice will be underwater eventually.
Going underwater is still better than waiting for help that will never arrive. Italy is a fucking disaster at managing disasters.

It's different. Scotland is heavily culturally linked to England.
It's different for Venice, they speak a different language there, they were culturally and politically separated for over a thousand years.
Same with Catalonia.

Italy is amazing in how it was unified so recently from super independent countries that just moving states over there is like entering a different country.
[editline]20th March 2014[/editline]
"Italian" as a language is also a semi recent construct.
There's so many latin based languages and dialects spoken there and they're all different in many ways.
[editline]20th March 2014[/editline]
Languages of italy. Here's just an example of how culturally different it is.

Here's a small example for Venetian as a language compared to Italian.

Those are dialects, not languages. Less than half of the population still uses dialects, and it's mostly elderly people.

Why can't they do what Netherlands did centuries ago ?
What if there are gonna be lots of small countries getting sovereignty now, and they are gonna have treaties with the big countries, and then the small ones will start to fight, and then nazis, and world war and stuff
Anyone feel like they'd be happier to see countries merging, and not splitting up? I dunno about anyone else, but the idea of a pan-human World Government sounds pretty awesome to me.
Still i support this if we can get Trieste back!

Yes, let's make the people who feel unrepresented feel even less represented.
Dunno about splitting completely but Italy should at the very least be federalized.

You realise the Union has existed for a hell of a lot less time than Scotland was an independent kingdom right? You do realise everything you've said about Italy applies to the UK, too. Scotland and England were seperate countries up until the Acts of Union in 1707, only 90 years before Venice lost it's own independence. The Union of Crowns a hundred years early only made them two sovereign kingdoms under one crown.
