Yet curiously in those European countries where they ARE permitted to do it, it isn't an issue. Hmm.
It's also worth pointing out to the people claiming it's a mental health and education problem that those countries also have much easier access to healthcare and education through tax-funded programs...
I mean, I'm pro gun as ever, but that's blatantly false in this most recent instance. I don't agree with the age raise, but Cruz did buy the firearm he used from a shop.
I thought the gun Cruz used belonged to his brother?
I thought the gun Cruz used belonged to his brother?
Nope he bought a rifle because he couldn't buy a handgun
they should grow up.
But gun owners own it for hunting and sport. Self defense, too.
im not even anti gun but its amazing how you guys have no excusesother than hunting and defense. You can hunt in europe too yknow, and do you genuinely think youd need a gun for self defense if we werent so gun happy out here in the first place
youd need a gun for self-defence if we werent so gun happy out here in the first place
Probably, yeah. I live in a town with no police force, but we have a state trooper. Except he's also beholden to other towns, and as such the police are 20-30 minutes away. I also live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. If something were to happen at my house, like a break-in, the police aren't going to be able to do shit. I want to be able to defend myself. It's a legitimate reason for wanting to own a gun, and it's baffling to me people who just try to shoot down any reasons someone would want to own a gun as trival or stupid.
18, old enough to die in a sand wasteland in conquests for oil, old enough to put yourself on the path to lung cancer, and old enough to vote but fuck you if you want to hunt or keep a shotgun around the house for home defense. You don't have constitutional rights.
i dont get the military comparison you all make. If youre a soldier you have access to training and your firearm usage is at least somewhat overseen. Its a -relatively- controlled environment. Many other countries dont let their soldiers keep loaded weapons and they dont ever complain [editline]10th March 2018[/editline]
Probably, yeah. You just cant buy one yourself before 18 or 21.

We're not talking about cities. America is really, really fucking huge dude. In the vast majority of the country, there's nothing but just farmland and... nothing. What are you going to do, put a police station every 10 miles of the entire country? We don't have teleportation figured out yet.

You're not the only large country in the world, or the only one with large rural areas.
Why do people think America is absolutely the only place where these issues exist? You're not the only large country in the world, or the only one with large rural areas.
I'm not saying guns are the only solution. I'm saying that you can't "fix" police response times throughout the country. It's not a valid alternative in the first place.
So rather than society taking time to fix issues like police response times, youd prefer a bandaid solution of just letting guns be around as they are now
what exactly are faster police response times going to do in a life or death situation that is decided in seconds and not minutes? and to extrapolate on my town for a bit, where exactly is the money for "fixing police response times" supposed to come from exactly? the town that can barely afford to keep the elementary school and volunteer firefighting force running? The state which can barely afford to keep afloat, even with our high taxes? Is that where we're supposed to get the money from?

Sometimes I feel like people are expecting the police to operate like that, you live 10 miles from the nearest cop and they're still supposed to arrive in time to stop the man who is probably confronting you by now.
