i do not condone violence towards the Westboro Baptist church and all their bullshit,
unless it produces results...
which it will.
but hey, i'm just sayin....
I didn't shed a tear but, I did get sad.. I mean most of the people that got hurt were kids because they are small and had to stand in front of their parents.
Thats the biggest tragedy here, they are being indoctrinated by the parents and getting hurt in the process.
Guys , find his address , send him "You almost did what we couldn't, thanks.
ps next time , do it right "
No way he had a M4. Probably an AR-15 or something.
The guy was ex military. He could have stolen or pulled a few strings to get an M4.
That being said, I feel bad for the Newell. He was just trying to silence dumb asses that no one want's to hear.
If he had gone through with this, I'd probably have called him an idiot, moron, unconstitutional dickwad etc.
I don't support the WBC, in fact I hate them, but killing them to silence them? No.
I think if you try to see his actions through his perception, it becomes a lot more understandable why he would to do something like that. I mean, he goes over to war and gets his legs blown off, and his friends die, then he comes back and the people he feels in his own mind that he was protecting the freedom of, they just spit in his face and say god hates him. It'd be different if he was your average soldier who goes over and comes back unharmed, but this man lost his legs and several friends in a very traumatic event. While it is wrong to kill someone for their ideals, I personally think we would be better off without WBC, and would not miss them should they be killed for what they do.
Nobody cares it shoots bullets.
Lemme start off by saying this: WBC members are scumbags to the bone and I would not shed a single tear if they randomly were wiped off the face of the planet for some reason.
That said, the guy who plotted to kill the WBC members TOOK AN OATH to protect their right to protest and be total dickweeds when he became a soldier. And as horribly, horribly ironic as it is that the WBC hates on the very people that maintain their right to protest, they still have the right to do it, and nothing should stop them from exercising that right.
We need more of him in the world. Down with Westboro!
We need more of him in the world. Down with Westboro!
Because there's no other option than killing them!
I live in Wichita, and WBC makes my state look bad. I saw this story on the news on TV, that guy should be given a medal.
Quite frankly Free Speech considered and everything, the only thing that keeps me from wanting to make hate-speech a hate-crime is that we all know some fucking bastard in the future will use it to some horrible end that will eliminate even more rights.
Not that it matters these days. Say "bomb" on an airplane, "fire" in a theater or "I'm going to kill such-and-such"and nobody is going to respect your freedom of speech anyway. So if any exceptions CAN be made, I'd add it to that list. There is NO place in modern society for bigotry in any form. There will NEVER be a time in which hating the Jews, the gays or the blacks is EVER going to be constructive towards bettering the human race.
Quite frankly, while "death" isn't what I'd consider right on my moral compass, I certainly won't shed any tears over them.
...well, maybe the kids. Not THEIR fault their parents are weak, not strong enough to even give them the chance to weigh the evidence and all sides for themselves. To let them question and learn, learn about God, if of course he IS real and IS punishing us based on what the parents apparently believe. After all, why wouldn't God WANT you to learn about his creation...?
...Unless of course you have doubts, or know that anyone looking for evidence is going to come up with nothing, so you have to instill primal fears about a place where you'll burn after death if you don't believe, into the fucking children, and tell them that your hearsay is the truth, and that the piles of contradicting-evidence whose existence even YOU can't deny, is just a "test of faith".
Fucking awesome post. Thank you. :D ^ Pretty much this.
Its not as if westburo was just a quiet little church with their hateful beliefs. If that were the case I would disagree. They throw themselves out into the public view. Their pretty much asking for it. Its only a mater of time before their actually killed and I'm sure no one will care. I would love to see old man phelps take a gunshot right to the face then show up and protest his funeral.
If there was a group of raging Atheists picketing a religious man's funereal(not a WBC member), and someone tried to kill them, this thread would have a much different opinion on the matter.

That is not the same in the least bit.
Denying a group their rights of speech, assembly, and religion by use of violence
WHAT A HERO
So let's make this clearer: You think it is "right" to murder a group of people for expressing their opinion? Their opinion is vile, but it's still their opinion. You think this is deserving of death?
It's not their opinion that pisses me off, but the way that they express it, and while I think I should not resort to violence, there is some primal part in me that just wants to hit one of those sons-of-bitches.
It's not their opinion that pisses me off, but the way that they express it, and while I think I should not resort to violence, there is some primal part in me that just wants to hit one of those sons-of-bitches.
First amendment: religion, speech, press, assembly, petition.
This is also the epitome of hypocrisy; risks life protecting the freedom of Americans, then tries to stifle those same rights. Nobody outside their group likes their viewpoint, but that's not a valid reason to trample their inherent rights (let alone cause harm to them).
You know, I ignore them mostly and I am fine with that. Now if a bus just happens to run over Fred Phelps that would be fine too.
guys, you're giving what the WBC wants: attention

But can you imagine someone doing such a thing?
Religion exists because of a very noble and human instinct, an instinct even the hardest atheist won't deny if he has any semblance of humanity. Back in the day, WAY back, we mourned death as fiercely as today. How could you console someone? If true loss was suffered, what can you say to ease their pain?
Anyone will tell you they'd say their loved one wasn't truly gone, that they can never leave them in one form or another. Back then, it would be asked, "how do you know?" You might say someone showed it to you in a dream. "Who?" they ask. Why, the man who causes the shapes in the sky, of course. He made the world, you see. He says I'm chosen to hear his words and tell you we all go to a wonderful place when we die. "What about the bad people?" Oh, well they're sent to a place where they're thrown into a fire to pay for their crimes.
That is how religions begin, and how they escalate. From a simple, human act of kindness.
The difference is, no atheist is going to bother people who are mourning. We are not religious, but we are still human above all else. We will never begrudge someone grieving over their dead. We might even pray with them, or tell them that infamous white lie. Because we understand, we sympathize. We are not machines.
These Westboro people are scum. They've taken their own hatred to a degree that they WOULD interfere with mourning. They are less human, and less "righteous" than the people who think their entire religion is bullshit.
It's not their opinion that pisses me off, but the way that they express it, and while I think I should not resort to violence, there is some primal part in me that just wants to hit one of those sons-of-bitches.
Key word: Primal. Of course there's a kneejerk reaction to want to punish them for this, but we live in a civilized society built around freedom that allows this, so we have to quell that reaction.
Also I love how I got rated dumb on like every post but seriously no one's posted an argument that isn't implicit or explicit endorsement of murder :colbert:
