as well as the fact that a similar Slendermanish game calledThe Intruder has already been Greenlit,
The butthurt never ends, the day intruder got greenlit every random person bitched about how slender wasn't.
holy shit you guys
I don't even care for this slenderman stuff but what the fuck why does everyone suddenly hate it now
you guys had a number of megathreads in the GD awhile back
generalizations ive always hated it
I like how slenderman was popular now everyone hates him.
The cycle contuines
Its not because hes popular that we hate him, its just when things get popular people just use it completely wrong in everyway. Not saying there is only one right way to do things, but people just get so far away from what it was at first it becomes stupid
The reason The Intruder can be said to be Slendermanish is because Mr.Royzo has said that he takes inspiration from Marble Hornets and various pictures of Mr.Thin himself.
Honestly, for the longest time, I didn't know who Pewdiepie was. I heard people bitch about him, but I ignore it, so I didn't even know what he did. I googled it one day out of curiosity, thought "This guy's a moron", and left it at that.
Don't get why everyone's so caught up with his shitty videos. I mean, what's it matter?
It has spawned a huge fanbase of annoying kids (including a good portion that actually flame other, often more talented people making videos as well, sometimes burying some promising channels before they had a chance by showering them with dislikes) and a good number of copycats. Youtube is now filled of idiots making shitty LPs of them screaming like dumb fucks at the mic while playing some horror game, and they are gathering enough attention to be paid, like better video makers don't get shit.
That and they can really give games a shitty reputation. Slender was pushed forward onto the mainstream because of pewdiepie and other LPers, which consequently ruined the entire idea.
He might be annoying in his videos but calling him a shitty person is a stretch. He could be for all I know, but I all I know from the 35 seconds I spent watching his videos is that I find him to be annoying. He's making videos and some people apparently enjoy for whatever reason, mutual benefit.
But seriously, it's better if people just forget about the guy and stopped bringing him up so that only those people lead to him via Google's semantics have to experience it.
There was a video of adults watching pewdiepie videos and making fun of them and he commented on it at several occasions trying to be a sarcastic douchebag. He said he was in for the money they backpedaled like crazy and never bothered responding to the numbers of people criticizing him for making rape jokes in his videos despite having a rather young audience.
Shitty person or not he has no sense of criticism and just considers everyone who doesn't like his videos an idiot or goes with the usual shitty logic of "if you don't like it don't watch it" while waving his dollars at your face.
Hello I'm the internet and if some kids have made popular something I like I jump at the chance to cheer it on toward its grave
The problem with the concept of slenderman, in a nutshell he's a mix of several kids story boogeymen, he's a personification of what lurks in the dark, which makes shit gameplay.

Pewdie is actually really shitty because he makes rape jokes all the time without realizing how damaging and terrible they are and then when he was called out on it he claimed he can make them because "they aren't really hurting anyone", as said earlier in the thread, he kisses his fanbases ass but then said he was in it for the money
he's just an obnoxious shitty person

also while a bit on topic on whats being discussed, i really like Slenderman, the mythos, vlogs and short stories are very interesting to me and just really cool, but the fucking rehashes of "slender" that are coming out constantly are annoying, i realize nothing can really be original anymore but c'mon, at least TRY and not just rehash a dumb game with boring gameplay and jump scares
Good.
Slenderman died as soon as people gave too much information about him. He's that kind of internet meme creepypasta that the least you know about him, the better and longer he holds up.
Not to mention the game is total shit.

i think dark humour is totally acceptable as long as theres ratings/warnings. parents can censor that stuff themselves.
not that i don't think he has an awful sense of humour but he should be allowed to say whatever he wants.
good, no more bandwagon culture rot on Steam
yes, we are too cool of ~internet hipsters~ to have fun with that anymore.
I honestly couldn't give a shit if Slenderman were just popular. It's the fact that it became popular because it was presented as something it's not, and all of the kiddies took that and ran with it even though it's a misrepresentation of the original. And with Slenderman, it's not like other fictions: it evolves as more community input create stories about the entity, but because of the misrepresentation, all of the new 'fans' have completely disregarded most of the original lore and, in my opinion ruin the experience whenever I have to interact with them in Slenderman related things.
cooler cryptids that deserve games
* bigfoot/yowie
* mothman
* mongolian deathworm
imagine a free-roam game where you play as the Mothman in some cheesy 50's suburb, taking to the skies while choke-holding someone and dropping them, and using eye-lasers to shoot deer and hikers and helicopters
that would be cooler than running from a guy in a suit
I never understood how slender got more popular than SCP or yume nikki which were both pretty original and scary games.

Because slender is riding on slenderman's popularity, if the game was made with some other generic monster that fallows you no one would give a damn.
I remember when slenderman had a niche group of people that followed it and were interested in the backstory and creepiness of the character. Now it's everyone and Pewdiepie who believe they know everything about Slenderman by playing Slender
When I start hearing real-life references to Internet culture I have to cringe. Not because 'normal' people are learning about our hidden little subculture, but because they run it so hard into the ground. Slenderman is a prime example. The actual premise is quite eerie and disturbing to say the least, mostly because you're supposed to know very little about him/it. As soon as everyone under the sun started scrutinizing Slenderman it took away the eeriness. Plus, there's the fact that someone like Pewdiepie takes games like Slender and passes on this stuff to his mindless following.

Sasquatch is almost always depicted as a fairly peaceful gorilla-man which just wants to be left alone to live his Sasquatchy life, while the Wendigo specifically goes on the hunt for people and can infect them with it's traits. A specific variant which could fly was even a bigger bastard; grabbing people by the shoulders and holding them against the ground while flying at top speed until they're literally friction burned into nothingness.
Thank God! I don't know what I hate most about these Slender games. The fact that the games are pointless or the fact that Slenderman isn't even scary! And this one is an exact clone of the last one except insted of collecting 8 pages you collect 14 creepy dolls and it's co-op.
Also the mapping in this game looks awful! Valve definitely knows a crap game when they see one.
fuck you kids you don't even know what survival horror is
Out of curiosity, what is, then?

Id rather play as the people hunting them than the creatures themselves.
Given, the chance to see them obviously needs to be bumped up, and they need to be more dangerous to make finding them more fun than just a quick glimpse then they run.
Id play a game based around hunting down the Jersey Devil, or finding and fending off a massive giant squid.
Slenderman was never scary. I just thought he was cool as a character. Then these "scary" games about Slenderman came out interpreting him the wrong way and it caused the downfall in the character. For me, at least.
I never really cared about Slenderman. To me it was just a name that popped up every once in awhile, I thought it was some dumb horror story from 4chan.
Now I hear normal people talking about it pretty often, which I find pretty strange.
I'm more intimidated by Eye Scream and Fingore tropes. Nothing like having your most precious organs being mutilated to bits so you may never see or touch anything. Saw tackled that and thus left me spooked. So did Elm Street movies.
Slenderman on the other hand has no fingers, eyes, hands, GODDAMN FACE that look creepy, he's just a faceless tuxedo clad anorexic-looking branch handed thing that hangs kids by their own entrails. He's got a really stale Modus Operandi.
This why I don't find him creepy at all.
Slenderman is like an old meme now. Like it used to be a neat horror concept some people speculated about and stuff, but then everyone started paying attention to it, and then people who have no idea what it's really about got on to it.
It's like over 9000 arrow to the knee cake lies now, just ignore it and move on.

I loved Puzzle Agents depiction of gnomes not as some high pitched crazy steampunk inventors, but as the old scandinavian mysterious and scary house gnomes. I wish more people would make games and movies where they stick to the original concept of mythical creatures... without adding a large amount of weird twists to them. I also loved Trollhunter's depiction of trolls from old scandinavian lore.
Facepunch being a closet hipster? Nothing to see here.
Good.
Its fucking crap and not even SLIGHTLY scary
'oh no a low res statue figure slammed his fists on a piano behind me'
scariest game 2012

Not to mention it took a concept that could have been immensely scary if done right, and made it garbage

I suppose you think people who dislike arrow to the knee jokes are hipsters too?
It isn't blocked from greenlight however much it should be. Valve just told them to get permission from another person otherwise they will reject it outright.

Ehh, I've never been into the slenderman following or whatever (I understand that it's supposed to be scary, but that's about it), but honestly it just looks like a fucking shitty game. Greenlight was supposed to get small, quality games onto Steam, not big hunks of shit that a bandwagon of 14-year olds wanted on there. I guess I just hate democracy.
