This just sets a bad precedent.
I suppose you think people who dislike arrow to the knee jokes are hipsters too?
Nope. There's a difference between a terribly overused meme that was funny for like 2 days and a re-appearing theme which was quite popular here before it got accepted by a wider audience.
Facepunch being a closet hipster? Nothing to see here.
well i think in some cases its fair to say that things can be ruined by becoming popular. a lot of memes and jokes and other things can be ruined by people misintepreting them and running them into the ground. i can't say that i was "into" slenderman before the games but i can see how pewdiepie and his fanbase and other idiots could ruin a cool concept like that. i think "closet hipster" is the wrong term to use, you're making it sound like a bad thing. it's not like its easy to avoid these people either. its not like they're quietly ruining internet culture in a private and sensible manner, they're fucking everywhere. it's frustrating.
I remember when slenderman had a niche group of people that followed it and were interested in the backstory and creepiness of the character. Now it's everyone and Pewdiepie who believe they know everything about Slenderman by playing Slender
who the fuck cares like honestly

That's just as bad as the people running the things into the ground. It's not like one can't enjoy something anymore because some silly people like it too. It's not like after making a Slenderman megathread people from all over the internet would come here and post silly comments. If something attracts a wide audience it's almost guaranteed that various kinds of people, some less and some more liked by others will get part of it.

I'm not very much annoyed that Kotaku calls The Intruder slendermanish; The Intruder character and the Slender man obviously share some characteristics when examined coarsely (and let's be honest, what little I've shown of the Intruder was a very coarse view of what now is an old design). I did get slightly annoyed though when I read the Joystiq article. According to Justin Ross The Intruder has the same premise as his game and is also supposed to be based directly off of Slender Man mythos. That's not true, and he could have Googled it or asked me before he said that to a news website. All that is still less annoying than the fact that I did an interview with Joystiq and they still got my surname wrong :v: But yeah, as I said in the interview, despite the fact that it seemingly intentionally features the Slender Man and its mythos, I think Faceless has original gameplay and deserves to be Greenlit like the others, especially given its popularity. All this legal epibration probably wouldn't have happened if they didn't call it Slender: Source. I wish them the best of luck in the legal and development processes.
good, no more bandwagon culture rot on Steam
You forgot Second Life on Steam...
what how the fuck
I've seen a bit about the intruder and it is vastly superior to whatever slender game.
Just think of the thousands of videos on youtube that could of came out of this being on greenlight, Thank fuck.
Not to mention it took a concept that could have been immensely scary if done right, and made it garbage
The concept is good Execution not so much With some prettier graphics and technical touchups it could be pretty neato Slenderman changing positions and sneaking up on you in a move suspenseful way would be cool Walking around and only seeing his face through a window or peeking out from a wall sounds fucking creepy Walking around and only seeing a almost Tposed slenderman crotch through a car window isn't very threatening Slender gives away when he is coming at you with the beating audio in the background, once you get the first page you have to be careful because it cues that song and you know he's coming IT SHOULD BE ABOUT SUSPENSE NOT PLANNING
Oh God the bandwagons in this thread. Facepunch keeps pretending to hate bandwagons while they hop aboard the nearest ones themselves. Last I remember, there were megathreads and people kept referencing him even here in a positive light, now even the slightest mention of him makes the angry mob of haters snap at you. Please, use a little individualist thinking before aligning yourself with crowd opinion.

After Slender game I've seen at least 3 other slender-like games being in development. Most of them aren't even improving on the concept. It's like all these stupid games that use zombies where any generic enemy would fit.
who the fuck cares like honestly
It's because this is our culture, we love it and learn about it and take part in it and understand it and respect it. Then it becomes popular, the meaning of it is butchered and half the planet thinks they're funny when they spout it out randomly while we can't do anything about our hobbies and interests being misshapen by people who had no part in it in the first place. We all enjoyed Slenderman, like 4 years ago and now like two years after it got old for us we finally hear people outside saying "You know slenderman?? So scary, man!" It's like how you get so pissed at idiots who don't understand science and then go on to preach that it makes no sense because we still have chimps walking around or some other stupid argument.

No matter how stale a concept gets or how shitty the game is in your opinion, more games in the steam store is always good.
I remember when Slenderman was hot topic on FP, I wasn't interested much but I visited the threads few times and sometimes people's work was actually believable and scary. What I hate on the other hand is how everyone is praising the game Slender as one of the best horror games when it's utter shit.
So they should, I mean it's been a meme for a good 7 or so years and it's getting pretty old already

I wonder who could possibly claim a copyright on this stuff. A dozen or so SA'ers could be said to have "created" him, but I'm no expert. People often say Marble Hornets was the first Slenderman-based content, but it's far from it.
"i dislike this because ___" "OH YOURE JUST BANDWAGONING, YOUR OPINION DOESNT MATTER BECAUSE YOU AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSE, HA HA HA I WIN YOU SUCK"
It's more of "UGH STUPID DUMB CASUALS RUINED SLENDERMAN. HMMMMPH. HE WAS SO MUCH COOLER WHEN HE WASNT MAINSTREAM. HMMPH I AM A PRETENTIOUS HIPSTER DOUCHEBAG" it's okay to not like things, but don't be a self centered dick about it.
I'd rather have a game based around a big government conspiracy about the Toynbee Tiles.
I love Facepunch when it tries to discuss trendy things, it always turns into a hollow argument where both sides call each other "hipsters" or "bandwagoners" or whatever other term until they lose any actual meaning. Nobody's opinion changes because of it, the trend doesn't become any more "trendy" or damaged because of the argument, it just exhausts everyone involved and wastes everyone's time. But it is fun to watch the dumb arguments, so hey, argue away.
people aren't hating slenderman because its "mainstream" now, and they're not jumping on any bandwagons the complaints are about slenderman being reduced to an unscary piece of shit due to the terribly made games, LPers such as PewDiePie, and a 12 year old following
inspired by an internet meme
Sigh, I'll miss you, untainted Slenderman.
I remember when slenderman had a niche group of people that followed it and were interested in the backstory and creepiness of the character. "yay this game is shut down, which could by all means be a great game, but just because a few dickheads enjoyed the game that came before it which was made by someone else entirely... FUCK 'EM!" [editline]15th November 2012[/editline] it's like people who cry their childhood is ruined when a franchise is revived and things along those lines, complaining about a project for no reasons that actually have anything to do with the project itself, but the way other people view the project. think for yourself [editline]15th November 2012[/editline]
people aren't hating slenderman because its "mainstream" now, and they're not jumping on any bandwagons the complaints are about slenderman being reduced to an unscary piece of shit due to the terribly made games, LPers such as PewDiePie, and a 12 year old following
so what. no one is making you watch those videos, no one is making you play the game, what do you care. this game in particular is actually being made by an entirely different person than the original so how can you even make that complaint?
It's more of "UGH STUPID DUMB CASUALS RUINED SLENDERMAN. HMMMMPH. HE WAS SO MUCH COOLER WHEN HE WASNT MAINSTREAM. how have they ruined the creepy factor at all? As an individual product, certain portrayals of the character or whatever you want to call him may be flawed, poor, etc, but how in any way does that affect the overall mythos of the character? It certainly CAN, but only if you allow it to. You can just keep telling yourself that these games "ruin the creepy factor" of the concept, but they only ruin it for you if you tell yourself it does, if you close yourself off from the idea that the character can still be scary (which it most certainly can). [editline]15th November 2012[/editline] it's not as if the gameplay featured in the original slender is somehow definitive and from now on how everyone must perceive him/it. [editline]15th November 2012[/editline] or that the gameplay in slender is anyway indicative of all following interpretations of the slenderman character
