ironic that you are citing a "super funny meme" which I'm sure you will disown as soon as it gets popular with "the wrong people"

I love how FP hates slenderman now, I always thought it was stupid.
Don't know about this game, but the Slender game was just such a dumb mimmick. If you wanna get scared by a game like that, atleast Amnesia is similar and is in fact a good game.

Did the thread get gravelorded or something? I missed it.
I didn't mind Slender. It was alright for the first time I played it, but afterwards if I were to try it again I'd get bored of it too quickly.
I looked around Greenlight and found around four games that have the same idea and possibly stories as Slender, what's so good about it that everyone has to produce their own version of the game? In some aspects, I see their originality, but they even explain that
the game Slender was their inspiration for creating it.

The game Haunt seems different, better graphics, sounds, and a realistic sort of map with cabins, and you can pick up battery's to recharge your flash light. But it looks almost exactly like Slender. There's almost never anything surprisingly new with these games.
I dunno, I'd go with Wendigos over Bigfoot. Sasquatch is almost always depicted as a fairly peaceful gorilla-man which just wants to be left alone to live his Sasquatchy life, while the Wendigo specifically goes on the hunt for people and can infect them with it's traits. A specific variant which could fly was even a bigger bastard; grabbing people by the shoulders and holding them against the ground while flying at top speed until they're literally friction burned into nothingness.
Imagine being a sasquatch, and being peaceful, but the bayou town around you thinks you're an accursed monster. You'd either fade away into obscurity by being stealthy, making peaceful statements to get rid of your stigmata (maybe by beating the tar out of a vilified criminal in town), or getting fed up with all the people trying to hunt you that you just go bezerk with all your sasquatch might.
Also Wendigo Quest 1998 sounds really rad and I'd make it, had I the skillset.
how have they ruined the creepy factor at all? As an individual product, certain portrayals of the character or whatever you want to call him may be flawed, poor, etc, but how in any way does that affect the overall mythos of the character? It certainly CAN, but only if you allow it to. You can just keep telling yourself that these games "ruin the creepy factor" of the concept, but they only ruin it for you if you tell yourself it does, if you close yourself off from the idea that the character can still be scary (which it most certainly can).

or that the gameplay in slender is anyway indicative of all following interpretations of the slenderman character
pretty much this but its still hard to ignore the new interpretation of slenderman because of how popular its become. i can see how that would be frustrating, but i don't understand why it has to ruin the old concept of slenderman.
It looks like people are rating this article 'Winner' because they've jumped on some kind of bandwagon for hating anything Slender Man related?
I don't even care about that. The gameplay concept is great, it's (hopefully) scary and will probably be a total blast to play online. I think there's some kind of unjustified self-entitlement issue where people feel that no one has the 'right' to make anything Slender Man related because it somehow ruins it. I just don't get that.

what concept
you're running around grabbing pages until you are inevitably killed
the game is literally just a copy of slender
bandwagon
people need to stop using this word.
why can't people just have opinions without being associated with bandwagons and anti-bandwagon bandwagons and anti-bandwagon-bandwagon-bandwagons?
this is all confusing to me. does me making this post make me part of another anti-bandwagon?
just shut the fuck up with the god damn bandwagons
wandbagon
slenderman has always been terrible. and if you like him you're terrible
and if you used to like him but dont anymore because of his increase in popularity, then you are even more terrible.
I remember when slenderman had a niche group of people that followed it and were interested in the backstory and creepiness of the character. Now it's everyone and Pewdiepie who believe they know everything about Slenderman by playing Slender
nope sorry slenderman has always been the worst shit ever
I'm glad steam is doing this, On moddb they're already 20 slender man games being made, heck why don't people stop jumping on this "trend" (for a lack of a better word) and start developing their own original game with a more interesting lore than slender mans? Maybe even a more "creative" monster/character than some stupid stalker guy wearing a tuxedo and a white spandex suit.

I'm gonna laugh at all of you when the game still comes out after the final copyright holder gives consent

I never liked slenderman before it was cool
Don't see why you're all so cranky and upset about it. Oh well, I'll just continue looking forward to it because it seems interesting and I want to play it. Doesn't really matter if it has anything to do with Slender Man or not...
I've honestly wanted to make a game where one of your friends is the monster, but it's randomized so it could be everyone including you, nobody, or you.

There is a clear difference between regular, intelligent opinion and a bandwagon. Any individual can be very intelligent with a complex world-view and carefully crafted opinions, but the bandwagons form when we, because of our instinctive need for and comfort in crowd/gang behaviour. simply align ourselves with what everyone else are thinking and saying.
This is exactly what's happening in this thread. And the saddest thing is that most of these people can't even see how hard they are jumping on the bandwagons because it's all a part of crowd intelligence, we get less critical and in many ways less intelligent when we align ourselves with the crowd, because we simply don't need to be as intelligent and individualistic any more, we just build our view of what's right and wrong based on what everyone else thinks.
It might be hard to analyze your own opinions and see that you are actually just letting the crowd of other people form them and keep on reinforcing them (the "circlejerk") just like in any mob or gang, but when an outsider like me who comes to this thread with little prior knowledge of slenderman and with no kind of earlier nostalgic reverence/bias for his character, then it is much clearer to see how much of your opinion actually makes sense and how much is just a sense of nostalgic superioirty in that you all circlejerk over how slenderman was much better before and that is sucks balls now because it's popular.

commercialism kills culture
money kills culture
milking kills culture
by your logic commercials or crappy products that spew memes aren't retarded as fuck

do you also think Angry Birds Star Wars is amazing too?
I love how FP hates slenderman now, I always thought it was stupid.
We don't really hate Slenderman. We hate what people have DONE to Slenderman.

It's a source mod, dude. I think you should contain your rage and let the people that want to play it play it. If it doesn't end up being scary it will end up being hilarious to play once or twice.

i understand what a bandwagon is, it just becomes hard to follow when people keep getting associated with bandwagons every time they share their opinion.
then there's all these anti-bandwagons that form and it's confusing.
I would of preferred someone doing SCP: Containment Breach or something similar using the Source engine instead of doing Slender.
NOPENOPENOPE
The guys at #site19 IRC unanimously agree that SCP 087, 087-B, and Containment Breach have brought so much attention to the Foundation that they don't want
Basically Slenderman games for us are Containment Breach and 087-B for them (and me too I guess; I do think more positively of them though)
[editline]16th November 2012[/editline]
I do find myself not liking the crowd its brought as well. People are charging into the game without reading up on it first, which I guess is O.K. because the devs included a feature in the game which lets you read the articles on the SCPs, but NO ONE EVER READS THEM, and its stupid because they keep confusing 513 for 106, causing 513 to be replaced with a different one because people just don't get it. Then these people act like they know everything about the SCP universe despite the fact that all knowledge of the SCPs they have is from the game and they don't get the full depth from reading it on the wiki itself.
Out of curiosity, what is, then?
Silent Hill 2, Condemned, Amnesia The Dark Descent are some decent examples off the top of my head.
Eternal Darkness for the gamecube was fairly neato as well.
oh, and Penumbra! Buy it on steam.

So much this, the Slender game was not a game, just a stupid mimmick. A bad one.
