What happens when you want to do a fresh install after the year is over? You'd have to go and buy a license.
I did the Windows 7 to 8 for $15 thing, all you do is use your key to download the ISO put it on a USB or DVD, then reinstall whenever. Also, if you didn't completely fuck your PC, you can reinstall from with-in windows now.
Here at the features of windows 10 as said on the stream, from the windows 10 thread.
Should have been looking at the windows central live blog m9s
Well let's see - Stream Xbox One games to W10 PCs - Free upgrade for a year for windows 7 and 8/8.1 users - a HoloLens thing which is a fancy augmented reality headset - Other stuff I forgot or didn't care about
I'd like to add to this: -Xbox app for windows 10 with built in gaming DVR tied directly to a key combo (win+g) that works on any game, even steam games -Windows 10 for phones which is vastly better than windows phone 8.1 in terms of better core apps (music app, photo app with album creation on the phone itself, Office) and continuum similar to Apple with OSX and iPhone -The 'Spartan' browser which looks so much better than internet explorer -Cortana integration coming out the wazoo -Universal apps for all Windows 10 devices, which means the possibility of easier and more widespread development for Windows phone.
Okay Microsoft you got my attention this time, And my install of Windows 10,
It's Free AFTER a year of it's release. AKA, if you have a valid install of Windows 7 you can upgrade after 365 days of Windows 10's release.
No, its free for the first year, then costs money if you upgrade then, not free after a year.
It's Free AFTER a year of it's release. AKA, if you have a valid install of Windows 7 you can upgrade after 365 days of Windows 10's release.
The exact wording is "free for the first year after Windows 10 is available". It's going to be free for the first year, not after the first year. After the first year, it won't be free anymore.
scrap that previous message, for whatever reason i thought you had to pay for the OS after using it for a full year. how dumb would that be, right? i hope microsoft execs aren't reading this right now hehehhhhh
Shieet. Can't beat free.
Windows would have had to pay me to go from XP to Vista.

When doing a fresh install do you need to install 7 first and then upgrade? Or does it even matter?
I dunno if I should - is it worth it?
now if only my shitty BIOS had the option to enable NX for my cpu :suicide:
So will DPI scaling be sorted then?
No thanks, where's Halo 3?
As someone who didn't watch the stream, why should I upgrade from 7 to 10 anyways?
Windows 8 introduced a new kernel, boot times are faster, less resources, better task management, small little features along with the features that 10 gives you.
I'll grab a key from the program, but unless W10 has a classic skin that makes it look like 98SE I won't use it until games simply don't run on Seven anymore. I don't want, need, care for or desire the flashy metro bullshit Microsoft's been trying to push us towards since XP. I've always used the classic skin and will continue to do so. Fancy doesn't appeal, function first form maybe in a year.
You can yell at Cortana to do shit.
I'm sold.
No thanks, where's Halo 3?
Actually, since you can stream any xbox one game to windows 10 PCs, you can play the master chief collection on your PC, meaning that, finally, Halo 3 is on the PC.
Fuck paying a monthly fee for an OS, that might be what makes me switch to linux fulltime.
Fuck paying a monthly fee for an OS, that might be what makes me switch to linux fulltime.
That was just a rumour and was never proven.
I hope they accept my W7 key. When I reinstalled W7 due to a virus, it wouldn't accept my key.
I use the technical preview on another laptop of mine. It works great, fasts boot and everything. I will strongly consider upgrading.
My friend that is running the tech demo on his PC has talked about a multiple desktop system similar to a VM from what he has told me; he has successfully run 2 games on the same steam account on the same PC using it. Anybody else know what I'm talking about? Maybe I missed it in the OP.
Is upgrading to 10 from 7 worth it? All I hope for is lack of that horrible tile menu thing abomination from windows 8
I was always interested in how much to give them money, so they opened the source code
Do you guys even realize what you're doing
Was just about to say this but I guess I missed the window of opportunity.
Eh, I'm still not that interested. I've no need for smartphone/tablet/Xbox integration and voice searching on my computer. But maybe I'll try out Windows 9 in a virtual machine.

Even with all the improvements of 7, I still can't get 3-4 screens to sync side by side without a lot of fuss... Christ, computers really are wasted on me.
If 10 seems worthwhile I'm just going to duplicate my drive beforehand so I can switch back to 7 if I don't like 10. Best of both worlds.
That's a pretty cool deal but I'd have to see what 10 is offering to upgrade 7, four-window snapping sounds good as does dx11.1 integration, I don't want or care for voice operations, maybe I'll use the Xbox cross platform thing to play my brothers Xbone.
