If my kid had gender issues when they were young, I'd do all that I could to make them feel happy and comfortable in their own skin.
When I was a kid I was force-fed religion down my throat from as young as I can possibly remember. Being forced in announcements to read aloud the Christian prayer. At 7, I realized I didn't believe in God and I just stopped. My teachers went wild with me because I refused. I don't really see a difference here. I knew from a young age that I wasn't something, so do these kids.

Gender, and gender roles, are learned through socialization, not genetics. I'm sorry that you're an emotional stronghold, but some people suffer far worse than you over something that they simply can't change. sometimes it's hard to just ignore transphobia. Some people at the same time are also emotionally weakened from discrimination, it's not hard to push some people towards suicide.

At my University, I actually knew a Grad student who was kicked out of the Gender Studies department because he came out about his gender during his dissertation. This is changing though. Feminists are much quicker to change the movement to being transgender inclusive. There's a pretty strong division in feminism now, where young feminists are much more likely to accept transgender individuals and treat trans women as if they were cisgender women.
Society is not willing to take that same step.
