See, your argument I can respect despite the fact that I disagree with you because at least you're not blowing things out of proportion.
To be honest I can actually see where people are coming from as far as the hats thing is concerned and really my major beef is with the fact that a) they're letting cosmetic items ruin an entire game for them and b) they continue to play even though they supposedly hate the game, sticking around and complaining and oftentimes getting confrontational with people who still like the game.
Also me posting has nothing to do with me caring or not. It would simply be inconsiderate for me not to reply to people who take the time to reply to me. I mean, it's obvious that you went through at least some trouble to find that demoman picture, how rude would it have been for me just to leave and not at least write something?

This seems fine and dandy, if you don't think an art style is being ruined, then keep playing it, more power to you. I honestly quit playing a while ago, mostly because of how the optimization went to shit, so it almost wasn't worth trying to play on my old PC. Now, unbalanced weapons I can understand, but if a game evolves into a different look that's a pretty dumb reason to quit.
Ironically the thing that annoys more more about the Demopan picture than the Demopan itself is the name "STOUT SHAKO FOR TWO REFINED" (The players name from the original screenshot), but that was before trading servers got popular so it's excusable.

If I think a hat is dumb, I don't wear it. If other people wear it, I laugh at how dumb they look.
I don't see what's so bad about hats. I mean, it's stupid that people argue over it, if anything I like the customization of your characters. There have been many people who say "hurr durr it ruins art direction" I beg to differ, honestly having hats that completely conform to the art direction is boring my opinion. Also I've never had trouble identifying classes with hats and is not a problem for me. In fact I think some hats even add more "personality" to the character. I believe a Scout with a Tossle, and Buds or a Medic with the OrtalogiHoweverTheFuckYouSpellIt Mirror and the Procedure Mask fit the characters nicely. Also a Sniper with Bills because it looks nice.
tf2 is boring as fuck without all of the items and hats, you guys bitch about it all the time but hats/items saved tf2, and i wouldn't still be playing tf2 since 2007 if there weren't items/hats because it would be bland as shit

in fact i stopped playing tf2 right after it came out because it got so repetitive, then i discovered a year or so later that you could get items after a few updates.
My problem isn't directly with the hats, but what they're doing. People just spam trading messages wherever I go, or run around with bright green hats that I hate.
Once in a while, however, I invite my good ol' friend over, just to play hours and hours of TF2 with bots. it's really great.

I miss the time when updates would just bring you a new set of items for the class and you'd get a 'meet the...' video too. Now it just seems to be all about the hats and I'm slightly fed up with the whole thing. I remember TF2 being a really fantastic game when it came out in the Beta, and it was really exciting when the first packs came out. Now the game is less interesting and less stable than when it started, whenever I'm playing I just think, "Would I have won that battle if I'd had one of the new weapons?" and I start focusing on the weapons I don't have rather than actually playing the game and it just isn't fun.

You know, if you played from the start you'd already have all the new weapons so stop with your silly excuses (I even deleted my items couple of times cause I gave up the game and regained them in no time through regular play). If hats bother you there's already fan made fix for that where you can disable the ones you think don't fit the style. If it's the trading chat, well then you can just ignore those people or go to different server.
Of course, it's easier to just bitch about it on internet forums instead of doing something to change it.
As far as Valve milking their fans goes, you're not forced to buy yet some people still do and so Valve does what market demands. Simple as that.
