DARPA’s New Multi-Million Dollar “Terminator” Program

I don't see the problem as of the ethics using machines and robots. We them already in car factories, metal fabrication shops, ship yards that store metal shipping containers, EOD teams. We're not enslaving anything or anyone, they're machines and nothing else. We built them to make our lives easier and more productive.
Sure, but are any of them sentient? Self-aware? I'm talking about sentient of self-aware robots. AIs.
If there was no Skynet, Terminator wouldn't happen.
If there was no VIKY, I Robot wouldn't happen.
It will only turn to shit if they are all connected to a supercomputer that has the ability to learn and doesn't have a killswitch.
That's silly conclusion. Why would you invest millions of dollars into development of obviously very complex, expensive, and probably really vulnerable copy of human hand to shoot a gun, when you can make a simple arm with the gun included? Same goes with grenades - you can just embed a grenade launcher.
This research COULD be used for weapon platform development, but it's incredibly silly way to do it. It's like saying that they want to create a tank armor made of marshmallow. There is no real reason to do so.
Well, if they are given hands, then they can use any gun they find/are given meaning that they can also quickly adapt to any situation.

No, it will only turn to shit if we treat them as slaves and tools when they are capable of free will and thought.
Its a serious blow against robo-ethics. Its automatically assuming that a robot will turn in to a killing machine without them.
If another biological species here on Earth were to evolve to the point it attained sentience, would it be ok to enslave them or force these laws on them? Would we halt their evolution before they attained sentience so they never reach it? Is that ethical at all? What about the Combine in Half-Life 2? They enslaved humanity, another sentient race. How is that better than enslaving sentient robots?
This is an interesting perspective. However, how I got from the fictions, the laws don't enslave the robots. Their minds are built on top of them. It's not restricting robots from hurting humans, it just makes them not ever consider it as a possible option. The robots are content with the laws, because the laws are their very fundamental. They seemingly wouldn't even want to get rid of them if they could.
And I don't think that robots would have to promptly kill humanity on their own, what I fear is, that they will just get exploited for killing, as so many technologies which were meant to be peaceful. The army commanders could abuse them for such an evil, which a normal human soldiers would never submit to. Robots could be used as killers for the underground bosses. With no mercy or fear, they could be almost unstoppable by the law. Another whole.
It's not like that I would say that we should never create robots that wouldn't be built on Isaac's laws, but I certainly think that the laws would be a good thing for both of our races.
How do they manage to fund this while also working on Metal Gear?
I think DARPA dropped the Metal Gear project after the plans were leaked. Now every dot com on the internet has it's own version of Metal Gear.
It isn't like they will be hooked up to a supercomputer and become self-aware? OR WILL THEY?
We can give them the 3 laws.
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
They can still sell your xbox.
I fucking love DARPA, they always pull off the most awesome robotic stuff. I can see these robots being perfectly fine and not going rogue at all.

They say its going to be on wheels.
