yea but those people are wrong because Tyga is legit trash and the only grammy he was ever nominated for (per wikipedia) wasn't even one of his songs, it was for an awful feature on a chris brown song. he was nominated by proxy
fun fact: tygas best song (muthafucka up) is only notable because of the beat and because of Nicki Minaj
fun fact 2: tyga was nominated for "Worlds best male artist" at the 2014 world awards, but lost to Han Geng
fun fact 3: he actually used the line "up in flames, i've been the flamest" in a song man FUCK tyga
Tyga is best when played at a house party or club or some shit. He's really fun to listen too and has a really unique voice IMO. Next time you're at a party or whatever listen to "Make it Nasty".
It's more of a problem of comparison. Some things shouldn't be compared, and I prefer the most individual possible evaluation of everything. I can't compare Interstellar and Airplane. I can't compare John Lennon and Thom Yorke. And sure, you can limit stuff down to respective genres, but then there's a debate of what the boundaries of the genre are and you have to adapt it to time. Plus, what if people cross those boundaries or mix genres? It really enforces borders on creativity, as well as standards. Art shouldn't have standards.
I apply this method of thinking to everything and everyone. Valve shouldn't be compared or contrasted with EA. My partner shouldn't be compared with other women. My success shouldn't be compared with other success. Everything has its own merit and failures, and they should be dealt with in the grand scheme of being better, not best, and being better than themselves, not better than others.
coincidentally, that also happens to be my way of viewing things and i was just curious if you happened to share a similar outlook on art. i'd definitely agree that there shouldn't be standards or comparisons unless it's in a tasteful manner where it's contextually acceptable, and even then it's pointless and is only really valid in lighthearted conversation (eg "i like poison but i prefer aerosmith" as opposed to "yeah snoop dogg's decent but he's not as good as guns n roses" or something silly like that). your ideology regarding everything being it's own unique thing set apart from comparison to other things is spot on, i totally agree that people shouldn't be compared with eachother as it's a completely baseless argument and your other points are totally right
on the other hand, it's hard to ignore the appeal of award ceremonies such as the grammys, regardless of how justified they are. for people who don't care so much about the artistic side of things such as music and view it simply as a product to spread amongst the masses (which, of course, is a terribly flawed way of treating music) can quite clearly reap a pretty penny for something as simple as an awards show
and besides, the news related to this year's grammys is pretty funny :v: [sp]not that that's a significant enough excuse for those sorta things to be worthwhile, of course[/sp]
