get better copies of current-run movies than the shitty cam copies.
people still do this?
If this were real the piracy numbers would skyrocket
Think about it this way. It is video on demand, you get to see a movie that is currently in theaters. Most of the time going to the movie with friends cost around 20 bucks in total for tickets and all. Then you add in food and extra shit. This wouldn't be a bad option if you had a movie night with friends. Everyone pitches in for the VOD and you can enjoy any type of food (order pizza or some shit) and drink (drinking beer or something). It isn't a bad idea, but it certainty isn't the best. It would give you more option as to what you can do while watching the movie though, most of the time you got to be considerate to the people around you in a theater.

If you have a 4 or 5 person family, then 30 bucks can easily work out as cheaper than the movies. Not only will you come out ahead on ticket prices, but you can eat whatever the hell you want. Sure most people would still prefer the movies, but there may be a market for this.
Think of it this way, some pirate with a screen capture device records the movie in high quality and puts it up for download.
Not everyone uses torrents/warez/downloads, some people don't even know what they hell they are. A lot of people get their media form legitimate sources.
Movie ticket: $10 Redbox: $1 a night Obvious intermediate value: $30 I'm guessing April Fools.
cant people steal dvd's from redbox? claim stolen cc or something
Price, for a family or group, is reasonable, cheap even. The problem for me is that when I got out with someone to a movie, it's about 'going out' that's why I'm willing to pay more. Watching a movie at home is a completely different experience. So even it it's a current in theaters movie, it's still just watching a movie at home. I won't pay extra for that.
Who still pays for food at the theater? Fuck that. Smuggle in my own snacks for a fraction of the price.
Are you fucking kidding me? Why waste a perfectly good trip to the theater? That's the way movies are meant to be seen!
Agreed. Going out to see a movie is an experience, and the movie itself is only part of that. It's just sad that everyone is gouged outrageously on ticket and concession prices.
Not everyone uses torrents/warez/downloads, some people don't even know what they hell they are. A lot of people get their media form legitimate sources.
Enough people currently use them for hollywood to be complaining about it, this will only increase the numbers.
Movie ticket: $10 Redbox: $1 a night Obvious intermediate value: $30 I'm guessing April Fools.
pretty sure multiple people can watch the same rented movie
April Fools? Right?
Agreed. Going out to see a movie is an experience, and the movie itself is only part of that. It's just sad that everyone is gouged outrageously on ticket and concession prices.
yea I miss my Drive-ins :(
I might as well go watch it at the theater and save $15. 30 dollars can cover the tickets and extra snacks.
Way easier to get a cam rip then.
Did you guys even read it? It's just if you want to watch it before it's on DVD. You can wait the same amount of time and pay the same amount of money for a DVD.
Here's the thing, it's a rental. Unlike a DVD, you can only keep the rental for a limited amount of time.
yea I miss my Drive-ins :(
There are a couple in my area run by the same family. They are frustrating though because they only open up in the warmer months. Which would be great if it was the west coast, because it still gets cool at night, but in the south night time just means it is now dark, hot, and there are bugs everywhere. It would be way better in the winter and fall. No bugs and temperature can be monitored by blankets and clothing rather than just having to be miserable.
Hey Hollywood! Wanna know WHY people torrent your movies? Well now you know!
Here's the thing, it's a rental. Unlike a DVD, you can only keep the rental for a limited amount of time.
Unless you rip it to your hard drive, then it's yours forever.
Way easier to get a cam rip then.
That shit will make your eyes and ears bleed though.

If you hate going out to the theatre and listening to teenage punks laugh through the whole movie, then this would be a good option. If you're going to watch it alone then $30 is a bit much though :/
Hey Hollywood! Wanna know WHY people torrent your movies? Well now you know!
this post is really dumb
Having a more expensive rental movie out actually makes sense. These are coming out when the movie's still in theaters. Very useful if the movie isn't showing in your area, or if you want to have a movie night with a bunch of people. $30 is really steep though.
This is for people that don't have a car but have a computer so they can watch it from iTunes or whatever for $30. Or if they want to have a group of people over, say 5 or 6 in some party type thing. It's not a bad price.
this post is really dumb
How? Hollywood is just acting retarded.
How? Hollywood is just acting retarded.
why the fuck would this increase piracy? it's a brand new service which has no bearing on anything whatsoever. you can pretty much ignore it with no change in your movie watching habits [editline]3rd April 2011[/editline] hell, if i had 2 friends who wanted to watch the movie with me, this would actually be cheaper than going to the cinema

All you need is a capture card and you can get a full quality rip of the movie before it even leaves theaters.
If this were real the piracy numbers would skyrocket
Wouldn't it skyrocket none the less when the movie actually comes out on DVD?
