Sony email leaks: Studio head wants Idris Elba as the next James Bond

imo idris seems more "bond-sy" to me than daniel craig did.
something about his facial complexion, especially his jawline, looks more suave and handsome.
Oh my gooooooooood fucking PLEASE
I really didn't like Daniel Craig at all.
Idris Elba should also be in the next Terminator film even though he's not.
IMDb kiddies are gonna go apeshit
He doesnt look like James Bond.
Plus the next James Bond needs to go back to the whitty lines along with the action, More early Brosnan, Connery or even at an extreme, Moore and less Daniel Craig.

you wanna elaborate on the 'doesn't look like james bond' thing because if it's that he's black we've noticed
He's a good actor so it could work.
I honestly hadn't heard of Idris Elba before, and was thinking Sony had probably decided they wanted a black Bond and only then gone looking for an actor (which is a Hollywood problem in general, I get that sometimes you do really need someone of a certain race for a particular role, but usually they pick the race and then the star even when race is not important to the role and that is just not good any way you cut it).
But now I've looked up think some of his performances think he could be an amazing Bond. The older Bond movies have an epic character even if the movies themselves tend to be a bit silly, the latest incarnation are honestly better movies but Daniel Craig doesn't quite capture "Bond". Idris Elba on the other hand really seems like he could pull off Bond, and if the studio can keep up the trend of making good movies... :D
I feel he works better in over-the-top roles, or of roles with importance. He makes a fine general, but he doesn't feel very suave, nor does he seem very stealthy.
Man why can't they just pick Clive Owen already? He'd make such a fantastic Bond.
As a huge Bond fan I'll admit I balked at the idea of a black Bond. Mostly due to me not ever buying into the whole "Different agents with the same codename" theory. But I realized that I don't really care what they do, so long as they actually go back to what made Bond movies fun. The over the top action, the wild and crazy gadgets, the charismatic world dominating villains and the witty quips. I don't watch Bond to see Bourne identity like in the Craig movies, I watch it to see BOND!
This dude would also make an excellent Bond villain :D
Remember the old switch-aroo?
[sp]Vin Diesel --> Ice-T[/sp]
Might work...
I remember there was talk of Elba being the next Doctor (in Doctor Who). I wasn't sure if he'd be right for the role, but this? Yes.
Holy shit, yes.
I don't know that James Bond needs to be a white guy all the time.
Isn't he supposed to be British?
As in, a Britty Brit :v:
I don't know, I mean, I very much so like him as an actor and think he would do well in the movie, but I couldn't look at him as if he was actually James Bond, he'd just be another cool secret agent.
this sounds awesome
but the james bond purists will probably complain about a black james bond due to the fact he never changes race in any of the books/movies/etc. (which i guess is a fair complaint)
Everyone knows James Bond is just an alias taken by several men so a black guy taking that identity would honestly not be a far stretch.

In the books he is, this consistent character with a set backstory and everything.
In the movies though, well James is basically just some secret agent who fucks women, drinks martinis and gets shit done. As has been said, his height, build, facial appearance, hair, voice, eye colour, basically every aspect of his appearance has changed, and he doesn't really have a set backstory or anything. Doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to change his ethnicity, as long as his nationality's the same (And it'd probably be pretty weird if they tried a female Bond as well, not many women out there called James).

I thought the end of skyfall kinda fucked that theory

Bond movies have always come in waves of stupid and waves of serious. When people had enough of the dumb over the top Pierce Brosnan Bond movies, Craig became a perfect option to balance things out.
Also Clive Owen wouldn't be a good Bond in my opinion, he's better at playing anti-heroes working in the dark which is the complete anti-thesis of James Bond's character. Besides, he'd only really fit in a grimdark Daniel Craig type movie which clashes with what you want (ie dumb, over the top action with lots of stupid gadgets and nonsensical plots).

I dunno, Clive Owen worked really well in Shoot 'Em Up and that was all about dumb, over the top action with a nonsensical plot.
I'd love this, Idris Elba is a great actor. Daniel Craig is alright but he doesn't do the non-serious bits very well, he just doesn't have the face for it.

There's no such thing as "looks like James Bond". The name is just the name, the only criteria there is for looking like James Bond is looking handsome and tough and Idris Elba fits both.

Yeah but he was playing an anti-hero, not some dashing spy.
"Next thing you know James Bond will be played by a female Iranian/Mexican who was born in Sweden and raised in Nebraska. She won't even have a British accent. It's not just a code name! It has to be a white, anglo-saxon male with a very pronounced jawline!"
~Bond Purists.
Although, to be fair, this weird new idea of "we are more inclusive if the actor we use to portray a character is from a diverse background" is a touch annoying.

Not saying that Elba can't/shouldn't play Bond. Just pointing out that we have had this type of discussion over a lot of different classic characters recently.
I'm not accusing you personally of anything, but questioning things like that can make you look bad. I've got a much simpler opinion on this. I don't see race or ethnicity with this sort of thing, I just think he'll be really good. I'm sure most would think the same way.
Oh god don't let the daily mail get wind of this.
-ignore me, it's already quoted but I'm just pointing out the fact you don't need to reply that I'm wrong-
Canonically, he does?
Unless white 007 dies and they just give black 007 his codename for some reason
Canonically they give the codename to like 6 different people, nothing anywhere says that codename is reserved for white people.

Canonically james bond was quite a few people
especially now that we're no longer basing the films off of the books, anything goes.
[editline]20th December 2014[/editline]
Though it's the name "James Bond" that's the title, not 007. 00 agents have their own specific numbers.

uhhh no you're wrong

Generally, Bond is always clean shaven with a very specific type of hair style. From what I've seen, this guy is known for having a beard and a very closely shaved head. I'm sure they would have him shave if he were playing bond, but the hair would be tricky because of obvious reasons.
It's also a marked change from the idea that it's the same person the whole time which seems to be the intended truth... so far, anyway. I mean, it would be kind of weird to have that many different agents in the same position working for the same people the whole time. Having a black guy play bond would basically force them to say that it's all different people, taking from the mystic of the man.
He might be an incredible actor and a good looking guy, but I really don't think bond is a good fit.
hes an amazing actor, ive been waiting for him to get a role this big for a while, glad theyre thinking about it
though if it does happen, i really wish for him to be remembered as a great 007, not as "the first black bond"
