As an American I apologize for my stupid government and forcing other countries hands just for the sake of money. I'm ashamed of what they are doing.
As a Canadian, I apologize for being America's hat.
Not a very good hat, at that.
How the hell you let them do this to you? Why are you people so passive?
just fucking detonate the atomic bombs already its the best for this god forsaken shit fuck of a planet
How the hell you let them do this to you? Why are you people so passive?
US citizens only look passive because they are compared to their government who is overly aggressive.
What the states really have is a socialism and capitalism based society disguised as a democracy.
Who in the world could ever think pirating 30 songs is an offense worth over half a million dollars
$1000 would be generous. That's almost certainly more than the cost of every single album those songs are from assuming all the albums are different all they all cost like $20.

Probably some asshole that wanted to "make an example" of him.
I really hope that wasn't the case.
So i've got my Do Not Rescusistate card, My gallon of PCP, And the highest building in my town.
Don't make me do it..

What ever judge ruled that sentence, needs his or her authority revoked, that is obvious industry induced abuse of authority.

Who in the world would ever pirate a single song in the first place? That's so wrong! You're stealing from the people! THE PEOPLE! THEY TOOK ER JERBS
Oh look Australia signs this, there's a shock. Because the Government knows fuck all about the internet but are more then willing to sign stupid shit like this.
Wait, so i'm confused. I'm in the UK and we often... disregard the european union a little bit in order to suck off America. Have we signed ACTA yet?
iirc, we told them to fuck off.
iirc, we told them to fuck off.
If this shit doesn't blow over, I'm moving to Wales.
So now what guys?....
Revolution?
IMO it should be like £20 per track, with a decrease if you have like thousands.
...
This cannot be enforced. Too many people will end up in jail for a stupid reason. Its just power-hungry corporations who fuck the general public over. A Revolution occur if this actually is enforced.
As has been said many times, money lustful greedy bastards are the reason for this!
does this mean simply ripping a song off of youtube that is in a paid album can get me in jail?
Great, I can download videos, then convert them into mp3, full quality no less.
[editline]5th October 2011[/editline]
oh, then I can get sued for all I'm worth because I did it to one person by someone completely unrelated to the song!
I don't think people understand what's going on here. The copyright agencies and their lobbyists aren't stupid. They know damn well that it is impossible to jail each and every single person who breaks the law. The trick here, is to make the qualifications for piracy so broad and widely applicable that they can just leisurely hand-pick people and sue them for exorbitant amounts of money if they have done something that was deemed illegal, even if it was totally benign.
I remember reading this document when one of the last ACTA threads was made
Isn't there a part that basically says "we don't need proof to take your hard drives and shut off your Internet"
[editline]6th October 2011[/editline]
Better just to encrypt your storage drive with AES256 or maybe even something stronger if you have downloaded songs
I'd rather go to jail for a short while for obstruction of justice than pay over half a million
Why don't they just fucking worry about ACTUAL piracy, the kind that endangers global shipping. Internet piracy is such an abstract thing.. you are not loosing money from someone making a copy of your product, this does not cost you a cent. If it's from a store then yes, the store looses money, but its the goddamn internet, it's not like the company gets a bill in the mail saying "hey 5 people copied your song pay up"
Either way, the profits almost always are large enough to where "piracy" is just less money from an already large stack.
Oh thank god China isn't even a part of this
As an American I apologize for my stupid government and forcing other countries hands just for the sake of money. I'm ashamed of what they are doing.
As an Australian I don't care because we're all on 56k anyway.
Oh thank god China isn't even a part of this
US intellectual property agreements and china
that's like cats and water
And then we've to ask why're people pirating?
Inaccessibility.
Economical reasoning.
Lazyiness.
Ridiculous.
So does this mean I should start deleting and wiping all my Linux distros?
no this bill will never get passed although it pisses me off to see shit like this
Oh thank god China isn't even a part of this
If china were to enforce this, they would probably start executing the law breakers.
I doubt the majority of china has internet anyway.

China has the most internet users in the world.
China has the most internet users in the world.
Don't think so. Everyone and their mom has an internet connection in the US, only a small part of chinese citizens have an internet connection. Mostly in the large city's.
