The level geometry is the the exact same. Why, Nintendo? [editline]23rd January 2013[/editline] And what the fuck happened to the character designs?
probably because it's an early wip
It's 10 years old now.
Holy shit already?
bloom phong shading GOTY
I never had a GameCube, I was always a PlayStation boi.
I don't see whats wrong with the shadows, they're not really "ruining the cartoony artstyle" as much as adding global lighting which makes it look drasticly different from prebaked lighting. Its not like they added way too much SSAO and Sunshafts, too, and if they pull it off right it can not only look better but enhance the artstyle.

Out of all the zelda games, they remake the one that doesn't need remaking.

They didn't even change the characters, they only added self shadowing, jesus.
i really really really want to like the style but it's just not working it for me, maybe if a global opinion is given to nintendo they'll reconsider their decision and alter it just a tad but that's too good to be true
Dolphin!
Thanks. I've never heard of this but I'll take a look. [editline]23rd January 2013[/editline] Looks nicer than PCSX2 but that might be because the PS2 runs on weird-ass hardware and PCSX2 has a tiny dev team.
They didn't even change the characters, they only added self shadowing, jesus.
and tons of weird unfitting shaders the colors of the characters should be flat
Link's eyes look weird as hell. They got this weird black outline on them. PLus they're solid black. Before they were dark green, fading to black. Also, his belt looks stupid when it's black. EDIT: I hate black things.
and tons of weird unfitting shaders the colors of the characters should be flat
Why so? To be cel-shaded/cartoony looking does something have to look flat?
Why so? To be cel-shaded/cartoony looking does something have to look flat?
Well yeah, if something is cel-shaded then by definition it looks flat.
Dolphin!
Unfortunately there seems to be a glitch for Wind Waker where certain sound file types crash the game after certain cutscenes. It's a shame, really.
Unfortunately there seems to be a glitch for Wind Waker where certain sound file types crash the game after certain cutscenes. It's a shame, really.
?? I remember something to this effect being talked about some time back, but I believe using the LLE sound plugin fixed the issues? At least I know I managed to finish Wind Waker on Dolphin some years back without major issues. (Heck, I even finished Skyward Sword on Dolphin alone.)
Do people actually enjoy remakes? Re-releasing a game seems like a pure cash grab, It just seems stupid to buy an old game for a second time.
Have you ever considered that some people may not of played the originals? OoT on the 3DS was great because now the younger generation (or people who didn't play the original for whatever reason) now has access to the game without buying a N64 or using an emulator. The game was by no means a copy and paste port. They redid the controls so it worked on the 3DS and gave the game a face lift. Master Quest being mirrored and having you take double damage isn't new, just altered. I mean, we get the orchestral theme remix.. In the second half of the credits dedicated to the remake team, which is the same music from the trailers. And just as well, it still has that annoying system that if you save outside a dungeon, you go back to Link's house (Young) or the Temple of Time (Adult), which doesn't help for portable play usually. I mean, it's an excellent port and it makes Water Temple about on-par with the other temples in difficulty thank god, but compared to Star Fox 64 - which remixed all the music, re-recorded the dialogue and still had the HD graphics ontop of it all - it just feels like a 'first time doing this' kinda thing in relation to Nintendo's recent remakes/ports generally, you know? :v:
I really hope this turns out good Wind Waker was my first and favourite game of the series.
Your first? My first Zelda games were A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening (on original brick Gameboy). Christ, I feel old...

Most of the dungeons have been set up completely differently for Master Quest, you aren't just doing a mirrored version.
i found something a bit odd looking at the old E3 2002 trailer for WW, it shows link in clothing that wasn't put for the final game but then when you look at the remake screenshots, that's the clothing he's wearing (even the eyes are the same) why did they use beta assets of the game for the screenshot? am i just looking at this wrong and being dumb?
Are you kidding? Most of the dungeons have been set up completely differently for Master Quest, you aren't just doing a mirrored version.
I mean, Master Quest existed before the 3DS version in some sort of collector's disc, which I played on Gamecube. Although it is nice to have it on one cartridge with the main game, technically it isn't new, and if it weren't for the double damage every single boss fight is set up exactly the same. Certainly harder, though.
My problem with this is that the game's art style was changed from something grounded in reality, heavily utilizing earthy colors, to something extremely surreal. It's mostly the color palette that causes this effect - it looks as if they desaturated and lightened the warm colors and simply added yellow and cyan to the cool colors. The bloom also creates an obvious pale cyan haze that further destroys the color palette and blurs the previously-crisp textures. I can't do much with the bloom, but here's my version of the screenshot in which I attempted to reverse the changes. It's just photoshop; the developers could obviously do a much better job. Aside from the aforementioned complaints, as well as the problems with character lighting opined in previous posts, I really like the new style. The new clouds and lighting lend themselves to the Windwaker's specific brand of stylization and the darker grays and midtones look pretty good.
Would rather if they did a Majora's mask.
This game. This fucking game. It's incredible. The way the game set the mood with the music, the story, and the visuals. Its unmatched by any game I've ever played. Despite running on the same engine as OoT and reusing a lot of stuff from it, MM felt like a completely different game. It just feels so... melancholy and dark, even horrific in some cases. This part scared me so bad holy shit. Not to mention the feels once you healed him. [editline]24th January 2013[/editline] Don't even get me started about the Song of Healing. That is such a beautifully composed piece. Oh man all the mood of the game is rushing back into me just thinking about it.
Something dribbled out of me when I read this.
Unfortunately there seems to be a glitch for Wind Waker where certain sound file types crash the game after certain cutscenes. It's a shame, really.
Only Wind Waker glitch I've noticed is the one where the screen goes nuts in the lava place (or anything with the heat wave effect), but there are hacky workarounds. At least it doesn't have absolutely batshit bugs like the one in Mario Sunshine where the goo slides off the map
Oh, shit. I'm excited now.

I think it was because of that audio glitch mentioned earlier because I had to disable the audio to fix it. I dunno if that has been fixed.
Woo, Wind Waker HD being released this Fall, technically any time between here and Fall. http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/comments/iwata-we-are-planning-to-release-the-wind-waker-by-this-fall
