As was the tank standoff at the Berlin wall, my point is much worse things have happened that were much more likely to pull us into war but they didn't, meaning this has much less chance of doing the same and shouldn't be so overplayed.
uh in the Cuban missile crisis/Berlin tank stand off, the destruction of a village and murder of civilians never happened... I would say this crisis has more weight of actually turning into a war then those two were...
Also a few years ago NK became a nuclear power... so it is up to pair with the same amount of a threat as Cuba was to the united states as NK is a threat to SK with its nukes.

Wasn't that a pretense to invade for containment?
Nothing of interest seems to be occurring...
Well will the US or UK be attacked? I mean, the US hasn't turned into a war zone with either of the wars in the Middle East, so maybe it won't be too bad. Then again, I know virtually nothing about war or the difference in military power.
Can someone tell me what the realistic consequences of this would be?
You mean the same shit they've been doing since 1953? Yeah it's worth worrying over but don't be misinformed about the situation thinking we're on the brink of war.
North Korea hasn't really done anything this offensive/defensive since the 1953.
just cause they never done anything in the past dosn't mean they won't do anything tomorrow.
Hell we said nothing was going to happen months ago, look back a few weeks ago.
Shit has happened even when we say "nahhh"

if theres a fighting/war, its safe to assume it would stay in the peninsula if china dosn't get involved.

If a war happens, it may be safe to assume that North Korea may send a missile our way. Let's hope that our Missile Defense System keeps us safe. The US turning into a war zone won't happen, but it's safe to also assume that if a war happens, North and South Korea will be at war with US Involvement, and possibly China + other countries.
Wasn't that a pretense to invade for containment?
Yes, but the situation is still quite similar.
We're sending ships right up to NK and saying "Hit me, I dare you". Just as we did with North Vietnam.

North Korea's army isn't dangerous for any reason other than sheer numbers. Not the best fed in the world, not the best armed. The only worry is for the safety of civvies in SK and the potential for NK's allies to help out.

The furthest they could reach is the islands of Alaska and at a very bit stretch, Hawaii.
The west coast is completely safe.
And if San Fran goes.... Well, nothing of value was lost. :v:
well thats the issue, A few months ago I remember a similar article after the sinking of the SK ship.
The article basically said the NK army had moved artillery emplacements on the boarder..
well look back a few weeks ago, they were not afraid to use them.
NK has shown their not hesitant to use force while at the same time the US has shown its not going to retaliate to these little attacks... so it would be pretty realistic to say NK may use them...
I think if NK used them and shot down a 40 Million dollar aircraft, South Korean or US, that both countries will return an equal amount of force, just like South Korea did after the shelling
Well I certainly hope China doesn't go against us on this one, because it will completely fuck us over economically, seeing as we depend on them to send over all of their shit that they make.

Right?
A conflict that will lead to hundreds of thousands if not millions of deaths is interesting.
Okay, technically it would be so interesting that it'd breach into the realms of horrific, but there's no denying it'd be more interesting - nothing happening = not interesting, something happening = interesting, whether it's a rock concert, a fight in a playground or a massive war ending countless lives on a massive scale, something happening is more interesting than nothing happening...
I still really hope that nothing will happen, just adding a crappy positive spin on something with no possible positive point attached to it.

yeah thats the scary part.
The north has proven its not afraid to attack and is not afraid to have retaliation.
Also, does anyone have that link to that news twitter feed we were all quoting from in the Worst/Best Korea bullshit from earlier in the week?
World War 3 or how I learned to stop worrying and realize that it's North Korea vs the world.

Right?
Honestly, I don't know what to think about China right now. Whatever stance they take, I hope they take neutral. If they take NK, they may face an embargo. If they take the USA's side, then they'll face war with NK and take risk of having a US-Territory right next to them. (Korea)
Also,
It's too difficult to call right now what's going to happen via alliance if a war does start. Let's focus on not starting a war before we start calling alliances.
uhh China+north Korea Vs the world.
or more like
China+north vs SK+US
Nothing is going to happen from this.
North Korea hasn't really done anything this offensive/defensive since the 1953.
The sinking of the South Korean warship, North Korean trespassing in South Korean waters and getting shot at, another naval clash at the same island they just attacked, a few border clashes, and the 1987 bombing of a South Korean airliner, and the capturing of the USS Pueblo are a few examples of how that is not true.
just cause they never done anything in the past dosn't mean they won't do anything tomorrow.
This is typical American conservative thinking. It's paranoia and it's no way to live your life. OR make a foreign policy out of, good thing that's not what the US does in reality.
Hell we said nothing was going to happen months ago, look back a few weeks ago.
Just like we said nothing will happen when they showcased the Taepodong 2?
Shit has happened even when we say "nahhh"
And it'll keep happening until shit goes down or NK collapses, and the first one still isn't as likely as people want to think.
all of this because of conflicts in ideology
really, we're just getting the butt end of the cold war's effects

Let's stop this right here. China will have nothing to do with North Korea if war breaks out. They would have nothing to gain from helping North Korea and everything to gain from remaining neutral.

It's hard to believe that would be the case, I can't see public opinion being that great.

Well thank you guys for answering my questions. I rated you all heart since you didn't flood me with boxes and tell me to fuck off for being politically illiterate.

For god's sake will everyone stop saying China will actively defend NK? They won't. They practically said so themselves when NK sunk that ship. They have nothing at all to gain from defending them and they're well aware of that. I can pretty much guarantee that China won't do anything.
I read the title as "North Korea deploys surface-to-air missiles to the coast of U.S. and South Korea" and started shitting myself.
