Not if the health continues to decline.
Welp the coral reef is done for.
So it's being destroyed by mutant star fish? wtf
That, and the reef is extremely fragile as well. Corals need very specific water temperatures to survive, and even human sweat can mess with that.
The reef will die eventually as long as we keep letting farm water run off into the ocean. Healthy reefs are barren in nutrients. Fertilizer is nothing but nutrients. We obviously can't stop farming but if we don't come up will a solution a reef will be something your children only see in books and ask if you've ever seen in person before they disapeared. Even now most reefs are a dead and dull landscape compared to what they were 100 years ago. [editline]10th July 2013[/editline] Oh then we have to slow down ocean acidification. That will kill corals and plankton they need. [editline]10th July 2013[/editline] Oh and hypoxia, too. Though stopping runoff should help that. [editline]10th July 2013[/editline] Oh and lets not forget over exploitation and negligent destruction off the reef itself.
That might be part of it, but even the article itself says that the massive natural disasters in 2010-2011 made a big impact on the reef. This kind of thing is a result of many factors coming together; we can't blame it all on one person or group.
Of course we can't blame natural disasters on people (Apart from our government blaming a flood on the previous government, and a storm on forecasters), But when we have stuff like this we have to ask just what on earth the government is doing.
I'm so happy I went scubaing with Proj3ct_ZeRo before it was gone [sp]joking, please don't hit me, SHIT OH WAIT NO DON'T HIT WITH WITH TH-[/sp]
Holy shit I was dying first few posts.
This is good news for the off shore shale mining industry! Can't wait!
What the fuck guys I was just pointing out I am glad that I got to see it before it dies off, so at least I can remember it first hand and it was beautiful.
