Can't wait for sharia law! It'll be such a progressive day for society.
Oh I guess it'll be just like that time that we upstanding whites let Chinese and Vietnamese people settle here and we became Communist overnight and now we all speak whatever those Asian folk speak. I suppose there's no need to drag out the decrepit old argument that the people fleeing persecution in these countries are often victims of the unjust nature of the laws.
Glad to see caring about the country now means opening it up to anybody who can make it into our waters.
You are aware that seeking asylum is not the same as letting them be a part of the country, right? They're not looking for citizenship, just a place to stay for the time being. These people are escaping from a shithole and need asylum.
Not really. It's easy to say all Liberal voters are idiots...
I don't consider you all idiots, just the idiots in this thread telling Labor supporters to shut up without having a discussion. I just wish all liberals like you could post an intelligent argument like you just did. Kinda wish the Liberal vote didn't feel like a kneejerk reaction.
I suppose there's no need to drag out the decrepit old argument that the people fleeing persecution in these countries are often victims of the unjust nature of the laws.
[sarcasm]Don't worry Samurai I've got this one! Why don't they stay and solve the problems in their own country rather than taking them here!? That's what I'd do![/sarcasm]
If we can talk about senate results for a second, The ABC is saying that the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party has won a senate seat in Victoria due to all the preference deals, Still would of prefered Wikileaks party tbh. Heres all the senate results btw: http://www.abc.net.au/news/federal-election-2013/results/senate/

Reason being, postal votes are yet to be calculated, and none of the minor parties tend to send out postal vote applications, unlike Labor and Liberal. 1/3 of votes were apparently cast by postal or pre-vote ballots, so that could dramatically increase the Liberal vote. Both the Herald Sun and The Age are predicting that Liberals win 3 seats in The Senate, with the final seat going to The Greens (rather than them getting the 5th).
Can't wait for sharia law! It'll be such a progressive day for society.
Does anyone know where I can check if any mentally ill patients have escaped from Australian asylums?

Don't you have to apply for a postal vote? And even if the major parties were the ones advertising it, surely the postal vote ballot has the same party members?
You do, but it is the parties that send out the postal vote applications, and for whatever reason they are the ones that get the votes.
Can't wait for sharia law! It'll be such a progressive day for society.
Sharia law will never ever ever ever ever EVER be integrated with the Federal law of Australia, EVER. Sharia law brings back Capital and Corporal Punishments in which is majorly frowned upon across the nation. Not every Muslim likes Sharia law, a lot try to escape their Sharia infested countries to a better country that supports different ideologies and views. Muslims are found all over the Commonwealth and have high numbers across the world in Non-Sharia countries, only batshit extremist push for it but Governments tell them no and we all ignore them
Can't wait for sharia law! It'll be such a progressive day for society.
Yes because sharia will actually happen in a secular, western society. Listen to yourself for fuck sakes. [editline]8th September 2013[/editline]
Not really. It's easy to say all Liberal voters are idiots, but no one seems to realise that a Coalition victory was inevitable, and I speak as a moderate/former Liberal. If people took off their rose tinted goggles about their beloved parties and had a nice look at why the Liberals were elected in, it'd make a lot more sense. This thread was just painful to watch on both sides. Labor supporters making themselves seem like the shining beacon of lights of society because they support gay marriage (whoop-de-doo, so does the majority of Australia) and Liberal supporters just being stupid generally with their extreme right wing thoughts. It's also annoying to have people come in and say "I'm sorry Australia". No one really asked for your pity and we'll just chug along as fine as anyone else. Just because the party you wanted to get in didn't get in doesn't mean it's time to act immature and have a whinge about how democracy doesn't work in your favour. It's pathetic. The arrogance of some people here is astounding. People will change if they're not happy, and they showed their displeasure with their votes. They don't chug along with the same party if it displeases them. Whatever your opinion is, being all negative and acting like a child and saying everyone is wrong but yourself just succeeds in making you look like a prick. And because someone will inevitably say "So you're a Liberal/you hate human rights/it's easy to stay on the fence and talk about how high and mighty you are", I'll just rebut with this. I am prone to pro-Liberal views I'll admit, but that's only because I was raised that way. I align myself with left ideals nowadays. I don't hate human rights in the slightest, that's preposterous; I think it's despicable that the Coalition is taking a "stop the boats" policy, which just paints us to seem like xenophobic cunts. And I'm not trying to be high and mighty in the slightest, but people aren't treating this whole thing maturely at all. To me, it just seems we're all interested in self satisfaction, not reality. I would be saying this if the parties were swapped, because it's the truth. The truth is, Labor's intentions are honourable, fair and just. That I can admire. But they fucked up big time. Kevin Rudd was the downfall of the party this election. He made it seem like he was the boss and he was going to make things better himself. But people only saw the fact that the party was in shambles and fighting constantly because he didn't let Labor work as a team.Stop looking at the fact that Kevin is this swearing, charming, funny and honourable man because he promised something that would make people happy and look at how he acted in office. He was insufferable enough that people decided a change was in order. Everyone needs to chill out, calm their tits, suck it up, see how things go. Take a breath from this whole fucking revelation and look at the bigger picture. Sooner or later, something has got to give. As I've said many times with the fullest confidence, the Coalition would do themselves a massive disservice not implementing the NBN and they would need to push through gay marriage (or at least make it a peoples referendum) if they wish to remain in office. People just see Tony Abbott or Liberals or whatever and they just cry conservative and bemoan that things are going to change for the worse. Times are changing and things will change. We're all just riled up at the moment (including myself, seeing as how I'd just typed all that out. It's just annoying that people are treating this as a black and white thing instead of stepping back and looking at why this happened).
Excellent post, guess Ultra is antagonising non-Liberal voters and getting to everyone's head, I think he is just blatant shitposting at this point.
Am I the only one that noticed that the Liberals TV adds and other advertising, all it did was say how bad Labor was, they never said what they would do. Yet Labor told you what they would do. There should be a law against that shit.
Can't wait for sharia law! It'll be such a progressive day for society.
Hey remember how Australia's population historically comes from a massive influx of ruthless prisoners with a history of ongoing oppression against the locals Remember how you literally stole the continent and made it your own because the British at the time just called it their turf Yeah
ruthless prisoners
you do know that british prisons back then were overflowing because most people had to steal to even have a living? you'd go to jail for stealing a silk handkerchief for god's sake, if you stole over a shillings worth you were transported just sayin', that's hardly ruthless
The sad thing about this election is that we didn't have a contender that was legitimately concerned with what was best for the country. They were both only concerned with being in power. Labour had some good policies (and some awful ones, to be fair) but they got so caught up in the childish bickering that our political system has devolved into (especially within their own party) that they never found the time to actually inform anyone. Liberal on the other hand took advantage of our sense of entitlement after our great financial position during the GFC, as well as the fact that the economy isn't as solid as it was under Howard (GEE I WONDER WHY?) to campaign on the basis that we can have more money personally under them. Unfortunately it worked, and now our online infrastructure is permanently fucked up (at least for the foreseeable future) and we've decided our own pockets are more important than little things like the planet or public services or basic human rights. On a side note: Tasteless, purely slandering advertising like this should really be illegal. It's just insulting that anyone can run an ad without mentioning a single policy or person from either side and have it work.
New Zealand is doing a good job though. It's basically Australia anyway, so we can say Australia has ETS, gay marriage and is relatively nice to Asylum Seekers. You just need to be in the state of New Zealand.
wrong bro, we got rightwing fuckheads over here too. zekes right, conservatives have successfully destroyed the legacy of the british empire. god save the queen [editline]9th September 2013[/editline] also ultrasamurai is a troll or just a terrible person i'm going with troll though
What makes me sad is in 100 years we will still be hearing about the supposed holocaust.

zekes right, conservatives have successfully destroyed the legacy of the british empire.
I don't know they got the religious fervour down pat still

The main idea was to convince everyone the country is a shithole and negatively affects them. The idea that any change is good change is really apparent in Australians for some reason.
You had to be pretty ruthless to survive in an island chock full of spiders and various animals that can kill you in a second though.
Look, not everything here is out to kill us. Some of them are only out to cause us screaming pain, or even only disembowel us. Does that make you feel any better?
I barely escaped a drop bear attack today.
I barely escaped a drop bear attack today.
we need to ship them off the country
I barely escaped a drop bear attack today.
I hear it's an epidemic in your country. They need to take care of that.
