Big Bang Theory stars sign new contracts, become highest-paid TV actors at $1m-per-episode
Guys lets be honest here for a second,
I know hating big bang theory for literally everything is the hip and cool thing to do, but raw viewer numbers state that its the #1 comedy airing on television right now
BBT re-runs draw higher viewer numbers than South Park first runs. TBS bought the rights to air re-runs for 1.5 million per episode
The show is an absurd financial success that is basically carrying the entire studio network into 1st place viewer ship. It's going to generate over 1 billion dollars in profit even after the pay renegotiations.
If they're not paying the actors who define the entire show, where the fuck do you want the money to go?
charity? executives?

Yes. People are idiots.
People get paid a lot to do shit. Whether you like what they do and approve of their salary or don't like what they do and vocally retreat to internet forums to disapprove of their salary, that's up to you I guess.
You realize that right now you're "vocally retreating to an internet forum" to disapprove of people disapproving of their salary? You aren't some master subversion artist.
Yes. People are idiots.
It's like the exact same broken argument as "eat all the food on your plate, or some poor small hungry child in China will starve tonight"
Holy shit they actually got a 700k raise.

Nor do I claim to be. This is what the thread's for, I'm simply stating my opinion.

You're implying that you're somehow immune from this "you're-all-nerds" blanket statement just because you called others out on it.

Don't put words in my mouth.
Film industry jobs are also pretty cushy depending on who you ask. If you're in your 20s, it's basically 25+ dollars an hour, huge overtime, paid meals, travel pay, etc. Much better than a lot of semi-skilled jobs out there.
Obviously if you're a PA then your life fucking sucks but most people are PAs.
as one of those people who are working the "cushy" jobs, I have to tell you to call it cushy is a pretty big misunderstanding of the hours, the level of work you have to do, and the high risk of danger in many of the positions.
Yeah, I can be making up to about 48$ an hour(depending on the show, the length of the day, and the over time pay) but I regularly work 6 day weeks, over 16 hours a day(add an 45 minutes to get there and back home every day if it's local work) so I have literally no social life during the months of the year I work. It's also highly seasonal work. During the hours that I work in the day, I put myself at risk working with electricity that can kill you in an instant(the things I've seen, and the stories I've heard are pretty disturbing.) and though I can minimize many risks through training, those risks still exist. I often work at height over 30 feet, sometimes up to 150 feet in a boom lift in swaying winds. Often times risk cannot be managed better than it already is and still people get hurt. The reason? Bosses are on tight deadlines, and many who are still left over from the days of the "Wild west" are very happy to put their crew in extremely dangerous situations.
Yes, we're replaceable. But actors are as well and there are more actors than there are crew members and even with the union in place and as powerful as it is for us crew members(Iatse) we do risky, high physical labour work for the majority of the working days we have every year.
It is a good job, but to call it cushy is pushing it. You work for that money.

and PA's lives are objectively the worst. I did that for a few years and no one get's treated worse than a PA. Even the lowest construction worker, or apprentice in most different skilled shops are not treated as badly as them.
Won't do any math but these people literally earn my weekly income by blinking.

Oh boy, look at all these bazinga jokes! Man, they haven't gotten old at all, just like all the complaining!

Maybe I worded it wrong then. I'm a little tired rn as it's 4:11, so I'll attempt to retry for you
I'm not necessarily a fan of the show, I've seen it and I see how people could either hate it or like it (durrrr nerds hurr) but I personally see criticizing the casts' salaries as sort of ridiculous. Fuck, I'd take that money if I could. It just seems stupid to me in this situation to say that the money should be going to firefighters or something, which doesn't even make sense
Is that better or whatever

it is possible to dislike it and not complain about it. nothing personal, just those kinds of statements are a pet peeve of mine

Gotcha and sorry if I seem a little bitchy/nonsensical, currently got some shit going on but whatever, shit comes and goes
Am I the only one here that actually likes this show?

The jealousy in this thread is disgusting.
The jealousy in this thread is disgusting.
I'm...not jealous?
I dunno about anyone else but I'm not really jealous at all. OK, yes, I would totally love to make a million dollars, no shit, who wouldn't, but if I'm angry at someone who's better off then me, it's not because they're better off than me, it's because they did stupid shit.
As I was reading this an entire bottle of 7up bursted open onto my laptop.
Blazinga
I actually really like BBT for the first few seasons, I distinctly remember when my brother showed me it before the 2007 writers strike and we'd literally be howling with laughter.
I rewatched them recently and 1+2 are good, I think the main thing that ruined it for me was when they decided to make everyone have a weird farfetched relationship which ruined a lot of the relatable/plausible side of it.
I don't blame them for renegotiating since if they are so easily able to get $1m per episode then clearly the show is doing better than I expected, even if it doesn't tickle my pickle anymore.
It is the number #1 comedy on television, so obviously many people think it's funny, but again most on Facepunch doesn't see how humor is subjective. Everything they like, everyone else should like. What they don't like, is obviously bad.
That only proofs that a lot of people are not able to objectively judge a show by it's content only, aside from the media and peer pressure, and to understand the manipulating marketing strategy. Numbers and rankings don't say anything about the quality of anything. I'm not saying that the show shouldn't be liked by anyone, neither am I saying that it's wrong to like the show. But it disgusts me how much money and attention a show and it's actors can earn by pure overrating from the media and it's strategy to create group pressure among people to watch and like the show while the quality of the content is very questionable.
Friends had something like this. All of the stars were paid $1 million per episode in seasons nine and ten.

Haven't we had this exact same conversation like, a week ago?

Friends syndication in finland is doing its job.
It's gotten to me as well
Am I the only one here that actually likes this show?
I'll watch it when there isn't anything else on or want some background noise.
It's the people who adamantly don't like it who are the ones most obsessed by it.
