The Pilot's an ass. He should have slipped to see whether the beach is free, and when there are some people, he should've tried landing on the water or something. He acted unresponsibly. (I'm a pilot, I know what I'm talking about, really)
FTA:
The plane had lost its propeller and the pilot's vision was blocked by oil on the windshield.
:downs:
that plane is such a fucking pervert
AND THEY SAID WALKING ON THE BEACH WAS SAFE! THEY SAID IT WAS SAFE :tinfoil: /caps
Look at that boat, it looks like it's photoshopped.
Damn. I hope he didn't leave anyone lonely behind.
Now this is what I call hit and fly.
Now this is what I call hit and fly.
that was appauling also must have been pretty unlucky to miss a plane flying at him,
owned
I never understood why people blast their headphones/earbuds so fucking loud! I'm probably the only person I know who actually keeps it at a safe level...
what song was he listening to
Tom Petty - Free Falling
He didn't see that one coming.
Suuuure, wife and two kids is what they all say. I feel bad for the family.

The poor chaps dreams and ambitions just crashed like a plane falling out of the sky. :frown:
Walk on the beach they said. Get some fresh air and exercise they said.
Ignoring the dead guy, that's a fine bit of piloting. Managing to guide an engine-less plane safely to the best impromptu landing site you could ask for while blinded is almost miraculous. If he made it way to that beach relying on dead reckoning, then I'm fucking impressed. The plane even made it out with minimal structural damage, from the looks of the picture! That's horrible luck on the jogger's part, but bad luck is all this was. The pilot did everything he could be expected to do. Still, it's got to weigh heavy on his conscious. Bad, bad luck.
Well then as a pilot you should pay careful attention and read the article to get a proper understanding of the situation.
He's saying he should've slipped, as in put in a bit of rudder so he could view his landing zone from the side window. He might have for all we know. A single jogger on a beach would be damn hard to spot in the early morning if weather conditions aren't just right. With the added distraction of an oil leak and complete lack of propeller, I find it pretty damn hard to find fault with the pilot in this. Slipping would also lower his airspeed, which would cause him to lose altitude faster. Once you establish a good glide angle in an emergency, you want to hold that for dear life. By FAA regulations, this pilot did everything right. They're pretty clear on the rules regarding an aircraft in distress. Could it be argued that he should have done differently? Sure it could, but what good would that do? Even blinded and without power the pilot managed to his craft to the safest possible landing zone (sans airport) within an urban area.
:downs:
That's even more a reason to not land on a beach where maybe somebody could be walking around.
It's always better to air on the side of caution and keep your iPod's volume down.
God's way of saying he hates you.
When I listen to my Zune (iPod ripoff) I hear everything around me and my music unless it's cranked to the max. So obviously this guy did the same thing for some dumb ass reason. Why do people blare their headphones? Do they really want to be deaf? Or in this case, dead?
The only noise the plane was making was probably some wind noise since it has lost its prop and so the pilot probably turned the engine off. Even if the engine was running, the prop which makes most of the noise was gone. The plane would've been as loud as a car but considerably faster.

If the pilot followed his emergency check list, the engine would have probably been turned off for the landing.
I was running at the beach a few hours ago. It must have been me.
I was running at the beach a few hours ago. It must have been me.
We weren't sure how to tell you.
We weren't sure how to tell you.
Fuck.
Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen says he plans to conduct an autopsy.
After an extensive investigation we have concluded that he was undoubtedly killed by a plane, no further questions.
He thought he could fly...
