Going official fixed the issues revolving the broken friends window while playing in windowed mode, the library constantly defaulting back to grid mode instead of staying in details mode, and Windows hiding the Steam icon in the taskbar.
I love this update.
This is badass
awesome, so is the steam blog ;)

It always has to be Rochelle...
Been using beta since it launch, it's good. The only thing I want is tabbed chatting.
Dear Valve,
I love you. This is yet another reason you keep making us proud of your products.
Love,
stupid07er

This!
rage
Booted my Steam twice, its not changing.
Is there a way to change it back?
I love it, gonna bu fun to see how all the autistic kids rage because they don't like chaaaange, just look at the steam forums. I am personally all for change, about time steam got updated. Hats off to Valve!
It's not that I don't like it, it could just use an option to select sounds AND a few minor UI tweaks as in my post a bit up there.
Yeah didn't mean you exactly, there are plenty of people modding the UI already. So shouldn't be too heard to get what you want.

I'm sure people will make new skins soon enough, just like they did with the old steam. I must say though, this default skin is TONS better looking than the old green default skin.
I made a little photoshop of what IMO would look a ton better:

Sorry about the swedish.
That would indeed look alot better.
I still didn't update my Steam, I keep cancelling it so it doesn't swap to this thing. So far it's still the old green default skin.
So that's why my quickstart icon has disappeared.
*Pictures and words*.
That looks like a good idea, good photoshopping :3
Awesome :v:
In all honesty why do they have to force this shit on us? Xfire updated their skin a while ago, but gave an option to revert, why can't Valve do the same?
A shitload of people like it, but a shitload of people dislike it, they should give an option to use the old skin. I'd use it even if they didn't update their news page for people who use the old version.
Lol I restared my steam twice and it doesn't change for me but, hell I'm happy about the new UI needs 50% of a 3ghz cpu core to move a fucking chat window...

That's like saying that W7 should come with a Windows 95 skin just so that all the people who can't handle change can go back to it. Things change, they have to change. If steam wants to evolve they'll have to change things.
People had more than two months to try the beta for the new UI. If you didn't bother and test it and complain about things you wanted to change. Then well, it's your own fault for not giving a damn until it's too late. Next time you might want to give criticism when they want you to tell them what you think.

Why do you think that everyone who doesn't like it 'can't handle change'?
I like change but the new UI (in my opinion) is horrible.

I get that impression from most people since they just say "oh god it's horrible blabal" when they clearly had time to affect it. Starting petitions and all kinds of stupid things.
Now I must admit that I should have said that so, not everyone then. I just find it annoying how people can complain so much. Anyway, enough of this, people are free to have their own opinions.
Of course. But there should be an option for people who don't like it to change back the old one. I don't see why there isn't in the first place.
I'm not a fan but i'll get used to it.

Probably because of the whole Webkit changes (Not exactly sure what it is but it was some big change.) and leaving in the old steam would cause problems and basically forcing them to change a lot to the old steam which in the end would turn out to be a completely new steam afterall.
Like how Microsoft had to close down the original Xbox's Live service in order to be able to change the 360's Live service.

I hate the lack of an edit button in the news section. It's really weird.
Yeah I suppose I'll just have to get used to it
For all the complainers, just switch it to list view and change the images to icons. (Plus sign in the top right)
Bingo, exactly like old UI.
Hey guys, I've been doing a few little changes over the time the beta has been released, including addressing Luafox's request for a darkened chat bar.
I've dubbed it the Aurealis Project, and if you want to use it, make a folder in your steam/skins and call it Aurealis. Then use SVN Checkout to set it to:
http://svn2.assembla.com/svn/Aurealis
Username: anonsvn
Password: anonsvn
Oh yeah, also did a few changes to the images!

Do stuff in the quoted version :v:

Next time you give someone a two paragraph reply, atleast read carefully the post you're replying to before you shit words mindlessly. You clearly didn't understand the few words I typed.
You obviously make a point but what I said is that I prefer the old version. I tested it. I used it for a week and I tried to get comfortable with it, but the thing is, I just can't deal with this smooth-looking bullshit. So before you go around saying I can't say shit about it because I didn't test it, don't judge people in such a retarded way like that, because you have no idea how hard I tried to get used to this thing.
I just prefer the old version, that's it. I never mentioned it sucks, because it doesn't, but I just can't stand looking at all this ultra smooth shiny clean interface that emmits sci-fi sounds.
