Gosh I'm turning into a conservative asshole, what happened to me?
"Quebec and Alberta hate eachother while everybody hates Quebec and Alberta." [editline]26th July 2014[/editline]
there's adoption. I understand it's 2014 and the race to end racism, but there has to be some sort of standard.
there just has to be guys.
The only reason I could think of this is gene based health issues between races(if they exist); but to leave your spunk at a fertility bank, you are not to have any kind of health issues afaik The only thing I can agree with is the keeping the sperm in-line with either the couples ethnicity. I don't know why a black and white couple would want to raise an Asian baby. If they seriously wanted to do that, there's adoption. I understand it's 2014 and the race to end racism, but there has to be some sort of standard.
Take a load of this guy. Also, this is some racist shit. Even me as a Quebecer thought we were pretty xenophobic as a province, this is just as worst.

Yes it's right to let people do what they want because it is their choice and not the governments, it's just odd that's all.
This explains my crazy christian relatives from Calgary.
I don't know why a black and white couple would want to raise an Asian baby.
Because they looked through the sperm donor profiles and an Asian man's donation appeared most suitable to them?

What's the difference between adopting a baby that's not exclusively your ethnicity, or birthing a baby that's not exclusively your ethnicity? It seems like a completely arbitrary distinction.
This explains my crazy christian relatives from Calgary.
Yes, this backwards fertility treatment center explains your crazy christian relatives. What the fuck?
I can't even follow this logic. It seems like a completely arbitrary distinction.
On that note, what even quantifies as an ethnicity in this case? Are they disqualifying Ukrainian descended Albertans from having Hungarian-descended children? (-for example-) This just sounds like discrimination by skin color/"race", not ethnicity.
Yes, this backwards fertility treatment center explains your crazy christian relatives. What the fuck?
I mean this thread, where everybody's saying Calgary is a backwards-ass conservative circlejerk.
I hate my province sometimes. We're not all retarded though. I know a girl who's from a small town in northern Alberta and even though she is Christian and her best friend in high school was a Mormon, she supports gay rights and all that liberal stuff.
Stupid fucking city... that settles it, I'm out.
Come be my roomie in Vancouver. Starting at $1000/mo :v:
I'll just stay in toronto. where nothing goes wrong, at all.

There has to be some sort of standard. Not a joke this shit used to be said.

That's probably the least offensive thing to come out of things to do with Rob Ford for the last few months. I actually kind of wish I was joking.
that's stupid that a white woman couldn't use whatever sperm she wanted, all sperm is white. if your sperm isn't white you should probably see a doctor. TBH this just seems really odd; having a fertility clinic and then restricting it based by ethnicity seems like some kind of oxymoron or contradiction. I can't really find words that explain why I feel this way, but I do. It's sort of.. half-assed?
My city everybody.
And? That's probably the least offensive thing to come out of things to do with Rob Ford for the last few months. I actually kind of wish I was joking.
Well, I'm pretty sure Kumari was alluding to the Ford situation to begin with, and Ford Fest just happened to have been the most recent Ford stuff so I used it to represent the whole thing. In truth, from the sounds of things, Ford and his crew didn't really behave any different than you'd expect from a politician, for once. It wasn't perfect, but those imperfections were out of the Fords' direct control. In that sense, it was unfair of me to hold up Ford Fest as a terrible thing Rob Ford has done, but I was using it to symbolize everything about Mayor Ford. The only reason I linked three different articles was to provide a more comprehensive picture of why Ford Fest was at all controversial for anyone unfamiliar with the matter, instead of it merely being me shouting "Ford Fest!" as if it was on par with the crack. It wasn't the best post, but I tried to make it not abysmally terrible.
The racism you occasionally see in Alberta really isn't anything compared to the racism in Quebec. The discrimination you see there gets institutional.
Alberta has had a conservative government for 46 years. We have both a centre right party (Our current government) and a far right party (Wild Rose), which is more and more likely to win the next election. Its really not surprising to see these types of things. But honestly, our cities are quite left leaning, its only outside of the big cities you see right wing, stereotypical Alberta, if I had to guess, its due to their close proximity to oil and wheat and distance from a proper internet connection and education.

I hope Ford comes to his damn senses and drops out, then we can make sure Chow won't win, but Ford's too stubborn to drop out, he'll have to lose before he realizes that we're really done with him, and the problem with that is he's leeching away votes from John Tory while being a stubborn arse.
The racism you occasionally see in Alberta really isn't anything compared to the racism in Quebec. The discrimination you see there gets institutional.
How so?
How so?
When Quebec talks about secularism its mostly just about attacking Muslims and Sikhs. Laws that target the Kirpan and Veil but not the cross, etc. Not to mention the thing they have against black africans and english speakers.
The racism you occasionally see in Alberta really isn't anything compared to the racism in Quebec. The discrimination you see there gets institutional.
I sincerely hope you aren't suggesting that institutional racism doesn't exist outside of Quebec, but your hate-boner for Quebec suggests I probably shouldn't hold out hope. You're basically willing to alter reality to make Quebec look as bad as possible in any conversation.

Not saying the place is a utopia but come on.

That second statement seems like a sweeping generalization. [editline]28th July 2014[/editline] In the context of this article, why even bring up Québec? Just so you can say "Oh yeah Alberta's bad but look at this province! They're way worse!" I don't think that anyone is stupid enough to believe that everybody living in Alberta is somehow a racist because of this one article. I'm even willing to bet that most people living there are good people. Hell though, if you want to post an article about how Québec is full of bigots go ahead. I just find it odd people who are trying to justify one specific situation by showing how it's worse elsewhere. Whether it's true or not doesn't make the original situation acceptable by comparison.
Well he's not completely wrong. I mean we literally have "language police".
Do they beat the shit out of anyone who doesn't know French?
Do they beat the shit out of anyone who doesn't know French?
No, but if you're a business in Quebec and your sign is in English only, prepare to be fined until you have a proper sign with both languages. And French better be first on it, too. Not even joking.
