Google expands benefits for employees in same-sex relationships to cover "gay tax"

Yes sadly so.

You care about abstract principles more than you care about what happens to actual people. That is why nobody agrees with you, and why nobody votes for stupid Ron Paul.
While I agree that this IS employee discrimination, it is a fact that the tax takes advantage of an immoral hole in the legal system, so I still support Google's actions.

How is it sad that a government protects it's people?
I mean, you are pretty conservative, and from what I've seen of conservatives they believe that the government should be all for protecting people.
Is it only wrong to protect minorities?
The government has no responsibility to protect their citizens from persecution?
A government has the responsibility to protect their citizens from their own government, but they have no right to tell a company how to pay their employees. As I've already said before.

So then why have a government at all if it's only responsibility is to protect people from itself? You are sounding more like an anarchist now, a bad one too.

The role of the government is to protect its people, but more importantly it is to protect the people from the government. This is an example of a government stepping in where it shouldn't be.

How so? If they don't step in then they are indirectly responsible for massive amounts of discrimination, poverty, and possibly millions of deaths.

Now you're going over the top. A few companies who pay someone more or less for various reasons isn't going to cause massive amounts of discrimination, poverty, and possibly millions of deaths.

It already has.

"I'm not hiring you because you're a nigger/faggot/kike/injin" probably could.

food for thought
It already has.
I don't see millions amount of deaths or poverty.
I own a Asian restaurant and I only want to hire Asian workers to keep the feel of a traditional Asian restaurant. Why should any government step in and say who I should hire or how much I should pay. It's my restaurant, not the governments.

Let's say there is a small ghetto where the predominant ethnicity is black. A well-established store, that provides a very large chunk of the area with jobs, and basic necessities, decides to pay blacks at half the wage that they would pay whites.
What effect will this have?
while it could be considered discrimination because they are paying gay people for being gay, the fact that gay couples can't get married and have these benefits is just not right, so I am supporting google

Read a book on American history circa 1850-1950.
Why should any government step in and say who I should hire or how much I should pay.
because in our modern society the idea of a social contract exists
you surrender liberties to the government so the government can in return give you bailouts, build the infrastructure to support your establishment, and support an economy which allows you to make profit

Good or bad effect, it's still a company which has every right to pay what it wants to their employees. Although this is very rare today, it will still give a very bad look upon the company.

So? Black people are forced to work and shop there in order to live. They get paid less, and prices don't go any lower.

I go to Chinese places where white people work, and it doesn't detract from the feel at all.
And there's definitely poverty resulting from discriminatory practices

This ain't an old mine town. If they don't like their current wages, they can work and shop somewhere else.

The point is that I have the right to run a company how I want.
I should switch from Walmart to Google for the benefits alone, now those are some benefits.
This ain't an old mine town. If they don't like their current wages, they can work and shop somewhere else.
In many places that's simply not true.
The point is that I have the right to run a company how I want.
The point is no you don't. You have a responsibility and the government has the responsibility to make sure you take care of your responsibility.
Google gets thousands of letters each day requesting a position. 99.99% of them are rejected.

The government has it's own responsibility's and I have my own. The government can't tell my what my responsibility's should be.

What's it like being a human cartoon?

Yea, your responsibility is to give equal opportunity, and the government's responsibility is to make sure you do it.
