what if you put in some sort of torrenting client device within gmod for multplayer toybox?
when someone new joins the server all of the players send the new player the files needed for the new things, at first the new player will see the traditional error models but slowly the errors will turn into the actual prop or entity

IMO Wire is too buggy and is pretty bloated. Just a few I/O tools would be nice.

I disagree, I think we should either have a full wiremod at default, or no wiremod at all.

I would like the latter, please.

But then if you join a server where people have spawned heaps of Toybox items, it will lag you out as you download a bunch of unneeded shit.
The whole concept of Toybox in MP just doesn't work without issues.
Now just to add wire as default
why the disagrees?
just asking
Because wire is dumb. It needs updating every day and is boring. Why add it? It'd be out of date quickly and Garry would have to push out updates every day for it to be current.

Wire doesn't have to be updated in order to work, and the only time it gets a major update is when Garry breaks it. There's no point adding it to GMod anyways, it will never be finished because new ideas are being added every revision.
I don't even like wire. I pose shit, I don't need it at all.
I looked into making Toybox work in multiplayer. But I’ve decided against it. The engine just isn’t designed for it, and I don’t think it’s worth it. There’s so many problems to think of. I mean, you spawn a weapon in the server, it downloads the models and sounds on the server. Ok. So now what, everyone needs those models, does it send them to everyone somehow? Does it instruct them to download them from toybox? What happens when someone else joins the server? Do they see a load of errors? Can you reload models that are loaded as errors?
When someone downloads something from toybox (typically an admin or a whitelisted user), it pings all the players to download the same necessary files. Now, add an option to the options menu; "Automatically download Toybox content from server". When a player joins a server, possibly have a pane in the toybox window showing the content the server has downloaded, otherwise, just have them download it while they are joining the server. The design is pretty simple, I don't know where you were going with those questions.
I'm not really sure why you don't think it's worth it, I absolutely love the idea, and I'm not the only one who has been waiting for it; It would mean players could mess around with items and entity's without going through the step-by-step process of downloading add-ons;
Going from this:
-Download add-on
-Install add-on
-Start gmod
-Start server
-Use add-on
(if needed fix or new addon)
-Stop server
-Quit gmod
-Install add-on
-Start gmod
-Start server
To this:
-Start gmod
-Start server
-Download add-ons from toybox
I really hope you reconsider.
Now just to add wire as default
Oh god no.
So many revisions and additions for wiremod would make that a nightmare.
gr8 interesting article
to bad garry doesnt read the second page. the wife does, but that's another story.
how about you give us the option to save things we download from a multiplayer server.
its annoying to download something great only to find it gone once i leave the server and start singleplayer.
oh and there would be an option to delete downloaded content on a server-by-server basis in case the user gets garbage add-ons

Oh man small revisions and fixes what a nightmare

Try manage a couple of servers, then is IS a nightmare.
I've not played GMod since the 8th of May last year, it's like TF2 though, if you don't stay with it, your fucked.
Yeah but GMod isn't just a way to collect virtual hats, is it?
