No, but unless it's murder or rape, there should be stronger considerations for reforming somebody. Alas, as somebody else mentioned, it's impossible for people who are out of jail to find work even if they WANT to walk the clean and narrow. A really shit situation that I can see no remedy to.

I would recommend re-evaluating your priorities if the only reason you want to leave your birth country is so you can smoke weed somewhere else. There are plenty of legitimate reasons for somebody to want to move out of the States, "I wanna smoke weed all the time." is not one of them.

Most prisons in the United States are privately owned, for-profit enterprises. States pay the prison corporations to house their prisoners. The CEOs of the prison corporations are incredibly wealthy. Some US representatives, including former vice-president Dick Cheney, own significant amounts of stock in these prison corporations.

I said that they should stay in jail for the sentence given to them, I never said they were all insane or not human, idiot. The vast majority of petty criminals or people in jail for a small amount of drugs can most likely be educated to lead a better life and contribute to society.

Which is why victims aren't running the courts. The justice system is should be making decisions for the betterment of society as a whole. The American judiciary tends to operate on retribution, Canada has tended to side with rehabilitation.
