JK Rowling secretly published a crime novel in April under a false name

Didn't Stephen King do this as well? Tbh,i'd do it as well if I was a famous writer. Get some actual opinions instead of ''X made it so it's good!''.
Wasn't the entire Harry Potter series done under a fake name as well?
I think we need an intervention.
This is her book for those of you curious

I wonder if it'll see a sale bump now.
first sentence made me laugh
I want to read the book because it sounds good, but I feel like I'd be judged hardcore by my peers due to the cover
yea i don''t care for that cover either. i don't like most book covers tbh. give me something plain with maybe some symbolic or stylized art. i always like getting hardcover books when i can, taking the plastic sleeves off, and just having the plain book sit on my bookshelf.
I've never liked her books, I just can't get into them and feel there's much better out there. Still, it's really cool that she did this.
That makes me like her a person.

She was published as JK Rowling rather than Joanne Rowling so that she wouldn't alienate young boys who might be discouraged by a female author.
Amazon have said by 12:00 GMT, sales of the book had gone up by 500,000%
Pretty awesome she was able to publish such a good work without any pressure, some times that really makes for a good read that she was able to do it for pleasure. Funny though that once people started to realize that she wrote it the sales jumped.

Once she admitted to writing it, you mean.
I'm fairly sure she came out and admitted she wrote it because it wasn't performing as well as she'd hoped, so she's now getting a boost in the sales by letting people know it's her next book. Admitting it's you so early on defeats the point of publishing a book under a pen name.

the opposite, probably. the book did extraordinarily well. she got her validation that people don't just like her writing because she wrote harry potter, she got the feedback she felt she wanted, so there isn't a point for her to pretend the book was written by anyone else.
If I was a famous author like JK Rowling, I would occasionally claim to have written any good books by relatively unknown authors that I like just so they get a massive sales boost and then go "oops actually I didn't write that one" once the actual author is a millionaire.
If you go back and read Harry Potter and compare it to any number of children's fantasy novels, you'll see that she sets a high standard. She might not write with a challenging vernacular or redefine English novel writing, but her descriptions are often (but not always) wonderfully quirky. Her writing is understated by nature.
Eh, I guess. As much as I recall her writing was competent, but entirely unremarkable. It was like a really well-made bread.
I don't see how this is news in any way, a lot of authors released books under false names.
JK Rowling has published all her major novels under a pseudonym (her real name is Joanne Rowling)

iirc it was because she worried that someone might not buy the book because she's a woman
Didn't Stephen King do this before, to see if people really did like what he wrote. When he got caught he said that he "didn't have enough time to judge".
Someone stole our wands!

Followed by everyone involve being sued
Well shit

The difference being that JK Rowling and J(oanne) Rowling are very similar, but Robert Galbraith and JK Rowling aren't very similar at all.
Isn't K her middle initial though?
[editline]14th July 2013[/editline]
Wikipedia doesn't mention a middle name, so I guess not.

Yeah it's her middle name
jk
Didn't Stephen King do something like this?
I'm guessing that she managed to pull this off because her writing style has no defining features at all.
You're really dumb tbh
To be honest, it's a little useless to me to write a book as a separate author when already you're a household name.
its about seeing if you still have it after writing all those years
Admitting it's you so early on defeats the point of publishing a book under a pen name.
That depends on what "the point" is. Maybe her goal was just to see what the critics would say about the book, or to demonstrate to her fans that a novel can still be good if it's by someone you've never heard of.
You might say "Don't judge a book by its author"
I want to read the book because it sounds good, but I feel like I'd be judged hardcore by my peers due to the cover
Book covers work magic.
Then if anyone asks just say "Hell if I know".
