Serbia has dibs for playing with them first.
in their kosovo backyard that is? I am not sure Uncle EU will be happy with it. Then again, all this old man can do is yell from his window. My dibs is that they are gonna get sent in Syria to ensure Assad's goverment safety while everyone else being busy with IS.

Our gov is very careful about arming anyone and is very paranoid about all military in general. If PMC were to appear then they would draw a lot of people from the army. There is always a lack of personell and that would just make it bigger. As a side effect PMCs will provide Russia with a steady flow of people with combat experience coming back from hotspots. Lots of mercs. I don't think Russia will take these risks and go for it. Just isn't worth it, at least from the authritarian paranoid POV of our gov. Unless the economy is SO BAD that it desperately needs a source of income.

Then only certain corporations/people could start the pmc groups, effectively having it answer/controlled by/owned by the government/putin's cadre. That could also be used politically. I personally hate the idea but it would be useful for Putin to - make his friends rich, intervene abroad without commiting his country to war [editline]22nd October 2014[/editline]
in their kosovo backyard that is? My bad, might it also be useful for central asia countries for "ensuring security" vs rebellions/protests/coups
It certainly is a profitable business.
why are some people in this thread acting like mercenaries are a new invention somehow?
The difference between a PMC and a mercenary is that a mercenary is foreign. I think the founder of Blackwater said something like that when they were called mercenaries
The US has been using PMCs for quite a while, makes sense that other countries will follow suit. This is reminding me of advanced warfare slightly. if PMCs get more powerful due to demand, will they make moral judgments on who to work for? Or just go for the highest bidder?
If this becomes a thing, does that mean that the US will ease the restrictions on American PSC/PMC groups? I have a few friends that would like that a lot, more money in their pockets. However, I do hope this proposal gets stricken down. Otherwise it most likely will cause other nations to loosen their own restrictions on PSC/PMC groups in response.
Ya I'm 99.99% sure they only take on people with combat experience.
What's next, ID-tagged soldiers, carrying ID-tagged weapons, using ID-tagged gear? Jesus Christ, war has changed...
Terrible idea. PMC needs to stop being a thing.
Nah, PMC are going to be wide spread in the next few hundred years. Private corporations are going to hire the crap out of them
why are some people in this thread acting like mercenaries are a new invention somehow?
We're not worried about PMC's. We are worried about PMC's under Russia.
What's next, ID-tagged soldiers, carrying ID-tagged weapons, using ID-tagged gear? Jesus Christ, war has changed...
Yeah bro. Where did the times when a squad of 5 people were given one rifle and a handful of bullets and given order to rush the enemy machinegun nest go? Man that was the shit...
If I won the lottery I'd probably buy some businesses in some booming industries and would make myself a private military. Just so I can go in and take over a third world country for myself.
Terrible idea. PMC needs to stop being a thing.
No, what we need is an outer heaven you filthy patriot.
your airsoft buddies aren't going to pull off a PMC ala' Blackwater/Xe/Academi
I'm not talking about my airsoft buddies, buddy.
If I won the lottery I'd probably buy some businesses in some booming industries and would make myself a private military. Just so I can go in and take over a third world country for myself.
Doubt the UN would let you pull that kind of shit.
Terrible idea. PMC needs to stop being a thing.
Military needs to stop being a thing period. [sp]Careful, wouldn't want to cut yourself on my edge.[/sp]
Doubt the UN would let you pull that kind of shit.
Do you think they would care if I went in and took over North Korea? :v:
PMC's are scary. In 2004 Zimbabwean officials stopped a plane that had about 100k worth of weapons. Someone hired a PMC to take over Equatorial Guinea
Untill you show me any of those groups officially having contract of military operations not in Russia, they are not. Trust me, i see some of those folks standing around here in Moscow. Not saying they can't participate in some shady business, but they are not classified or recognised as PMCs.
RSB calls themselves a PMC on their own website and talks about operations abroad (and even has photos of themselves on said operations abroad for marketing purposes)

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, gotta love dat PMC.
Yeah bro. Where did the times when a squad of 5 people were given one rifle and a handful of bullets and given order to rush the enemy machinegun nest go? Man that was the shit...
It's a Metal Gear reference you silly.
Ya I'm 99.99% sure they only take on people with combat experience.
They look for military experience or high level law enforcement experience, so yeah. As someone who's career path is aimed to end in private security contracting, I'll be the first to say it's insane to get into because if you don't wanna get deployed and get 4+ years overseas, then your only other chance is to be a cop for as long as it takes for you to prove yourself to get onto a high end response team like the SWAT for example, then you gotta have experience in that for a while. Even then, it's a fairly competitive scene so there's no guarantees. [editline]22nd October 2014[/editline]
They are one in the same. Private security is a term used by corporate types who dont like the implications of having a "private military" roaming about. RSB group is a PMC, no two ways about it.
Also, this guy is correct. A private security contractor is the same as a private military contractor, people just don't like using PMC because it has a highly negative connotation. Contrary to popular belief, private security contractors are not huge on the whole fighting wars for countries thing. Their major contracts are generally political security.
Oooh man, I remember being on DISEC for Model UN and going over PMCs. They have been a problem forever and commit horrible acts. They just don't get any media coverage at all. Its like Monsanto and GMOs. They can't be defeated by bad PR.
Who's gonna stop a major power from doing that though?
If memory serves right wasn't there a vote in the Duma that allowed Gazprom to basically do this themselves? It included language for APCs and helicopters from what little I can recall.
Military needs to stop being a thing period. [sp]Careful, wouldn't want to cut yourself on my edge.[/sp]
Then the aliens show up...........
