• "War will change, Da" - Russian lawmakers propose creating private military companies

I just imagined a Russian version of the former South African PMC, Executive Outcomes. I could seriously support that.
The US has been using PMCs for quite a while, makes sense that other countries will follow suit. This is reminding me of advanced warfare slightly. if PMCs get more powerful due to demand, will they make moral judgments on who to work for? Or just go for the highest bidder?
You guys watch too many movies and play too many videogames 99% of what PMCs do is contract services, such as janitors, secretaries, technicians, tradesmen. Literally, contractors. Its only the 1% that handle the gunslinging side of the business, and that 1% is typically security details, providing local security for convoys, embassies or transporting people, not combat troops. You will never see a PMC group sending out a combat patrol in some village in Afghanistan. You won't see PMCs assaulting an airfield. PMCs were contracted so broadly in Iraq because somehow the US govt was getting stretched thin even with the assistance of 20 other nations. Like I said earlier, the only precedent for a PMC acting in a true military capability, is was Executive Outcomes in Angola on behalf of the Angolan government. It hadn't been done before that, and hasn't been done since. Ironically it was a net positive that area, especially after the UN and the US failed to do anything to help (a politically embarrassing situation for both, and part of the reason they exerted so much pressure on the Angolan government to terminate the contract) not the boogeyman the UN and popular media paints PMCs to be. Most PMCs don't just work for the highest bidder, because the highest bidder is not necessarily a reliable client, and the political and international price may be more costly than the reward. I.E working for an unrecognized state for a billion dollar contract isn't too great if you and all your board members end up getting labelled as international war criminals is it?
