A day dedicated to Steve Jobs? California thinks so.
Days dedicated to people are silly. I want more days dedicated to wrathful gods, like Saturday. I like Saturday.
In Scandinavia, our weekdays are all named not after celestial bodies, but after Norse gods like Thor and Odin
I'm not thinking as the whole meme thing but...

Jobs made stuff that were user friendly. Why is he getting his own day? What about all the other geniuses? Jobs is getting too much now. He died and that was sad. The End

I'm sorry, but that's just disrespectful. I'm no Apple nut by any means, but there is much more to Steve Jobs than iPhones and iPods.

...and contrarywise there was more to Dennis Ritchie than UNIX and C, yet it isn't relevant since the millions of people around the world know him on account of his technological innovations and fame, nothing else.
I agree it's not really fair to call Jobs "misanthropist" however.
Steve Jobs has done more than Iphones and Mac, he was in charge of the Circuit board for the game "Breakout" and he created Pixar.

Honestly, I want to see an Isaac Newton, Henry Ford, or Einstein day, because they're two people who actually truly defined something that changed history.

Pixar is really nice, but its entertainment, it didn't revolutionize anything.
people never made osama's death day
And yet they want to make a Steve Job's day. Who do they think Steve is? Jesus?

Revolutionized me in a way, Pixar made me begin to like CGI movies since it was done right.

Like I said, its really nice, but it didn't change anything in a massive way, its entertainment.
Henry Ford made the automobile and the assembly line, and completely changed the definition of easy transportation. The airplane and the radio, the TV, steel, even bronze, paper, the Internet, Bikes, bolts, cotton mills, Medical alcohol, all these other things changed history in a massive way, and don't get enough recognition for it.
What did Steve Jobs do? Make slick devices using other peoples ideas, and made Pixar, which makes movies. It's taking an element thats already made and making people happy from it, not improving technology in a huge way. If anyone thinks that Steve Jobs is more important than the above named things, they're seriously insane.

Thats a pretty terrible example. Please don't try and make any more.

This whole 'Steve Jobs day' getting support just shows that western civilization is one that is going to only progressively worship convenience more over actual progress. Convenience is always nice, but enough to warrant a fucking day to be remembered?
Then again I can't say shit, my Premier made April 13th in Saskatchewan official 'Corner Gas Day' because it's the one form of media we've produced that wasn't god awful in every way.

Many America worships what makes the day easier, not what makes the world a better place. If it doesn't look fancy and make them feel badass, they don't really care. I person
I mean, Jesus Christ, sometimes think I live in a country thats literally nothing more than a giant shopping mall. If any country could make and worship grills that float in your pool and automatically put food in your mouth and plays "America, fuck yeah!" every time it does it, it'd be America.
Ok, sure, maybe you'd see inflatable grills in Japan, but do you know who would buy it the most? Americans. This is why I don't blame people for jokes about America.

If we have a Steve Jobs day, I demand a William Kelly day for this.

Nah, he didn't make Pixar. He just funded them.
what the fuck no
No Jobs Day
no jobs and no (johnny) cash
Also everyone praises einstein, why isn't there an einstein day
This is dumb.
There are people who did way better things for humanity than just selling shiny gadgets that costed twice as much as something similar by someone else and threw a tantrum and lawsuits to ban other successful gadgets implying they copied his own designs.
Fixed.
We need a day dedicated to Ryan Dunn.
Just when is Bill Gates day?
He actually donated to charities.

Not American
Let's see. How many public holidays are dedicated to one person? Well, Jesus has 2. Countries in the Commonwealth have Queen's Birthday for Queen Victoria. Buddhists countries have Buddha's death day. Some countries have Mother Teresa Day.
From this, it seems people think that Steve Jobs was up there with Mother Teresa, Queen Victoria, Buddha and Jesus.

I know, it's sickening.
Steve Jobs has done more than Iphones and Mac, he was in charge of the Circuit board for the game "Breakout" and he created Pixar.
No he didn't.
I'm more in favor of a Michael Jackson day really.
[editline]21st October 2011[/editline]
Sure Steve Jobs might have done some useful things for our technological development, but he also created a fanbase more widespread and obnoxious than bronies.
I see nothing wrong that could come from celebrating the king of pop.

I disagree. While he did change music into what it is today, I think only people who actually change America itself should have a day dedicated to then, such as Martin Luther King Jr.

MJ didn't really do that much and TBH the media only portrayed him as a god to make money
he doesn't deserve his own day.
We need a day dedicated to Ryan Dunn.
If you want a Ryan Dunn day then every year, on his bday, shove a toy car up your ass
Steve Jobs has done more than Iphones and Mac, he was in charge of the Circuit board for the game "Breakout" and he created Pixar.
In regards to Breakout: Jobs actually had Wozniak do the work, yet kept most of the money they earned to himself. Jobs is an asshole.
they just want to glorify the posterboy for their iphones and ipods, I doubt the majority of California really knows or cares what Steve Jobs actually did, they just recognize him as the founder of the tech that they "can't live without"
I just went to the mall today and the Apple Store was like a fucking high value nightclub.
There was a line extending two three stores and there were ropes, a carpet deployed, bouncers and the whole thing. People had to wait in line to go check out some overpriced gadgets...
Happens all the time
I feel like "Steve Jobs" day isn't upbeat enough, nor does it reflect the accomplishments of Jobs very well..
How about:
- Happy Bring Your Noose to Work Day!
- National Base Jumping Prevention Day
- Patent Abuse Day
Just brainstorming.

Or we could just not have a national holiday to honor celebrities
