Everyone in the pic looks dead on the inside
Their souls were sucked dry by the music industry long ago. Especially Deadmou5, look at those dead eyes.
Sounds like Tidal's all ebb and no flow.
Source?
Here's a comparison of the two
So uh, what was the consumer-facing hook? "It's the same as Spotify, but we keep more of your money!"
Supposedly the hook was better audio quality that appealed to audiophiles, the problem being that the audiophiles in question quickly realized the so-called quality upgrade was so marginal one could not even notice it and that you were better off paying for a cheaper service.
Everyone in the pic looks dead on the inside
Except for deadmau5. He looks pretty dead on the outside.
Music service by the artists. The incredibly rich artists. The incredibly incredibly rich artists. Uploading release videos about their high quality streaming in 420p
Tidal: Music by the artists, for the artists, and not for you. It's an okay slogan, seems a little confrontational, though.
FLAC streaming isn't a bad idea, but iPhones don't have amps and the average person doesn't own headphones good enough to tell the difference with. The people who care about having higher-quality audio aren't big enough a market, and they're already at a level of enthusiast where they pirate almost every single album they want from private trackers.
I think it's a fucking terrible idea. first of all, FLAC files are ludicrously large and streaming them over the internet instead of having them on a local drive makes about as much sense as making the next crysis game iphone exclusive. but even in a perfect world where everyone has google fiber, "audiophiles" are probably not very keen on the idea of having their music played through an application that has no advanced audio processing capabilities. I wouldn't venture to call myself an audiophile but even I usually cringe inside when I hear music being played through something other than my heavily customized winamp+plugins.
How to spot an audiophile on the go You can actually get audio via the USB port on some smartphones. [editline]22nd April 2015[/editline] Also this case exists

In the future, when 10 or so MB per song isn't really that much to stream over a mobile data network, it'll be a great idea to get higher-quality audio. At this point in time? Hell no it won't work. It's just focusing on a market that already has a better, cheaper, and more reliable alternative. I'm not an audiophile by any means - I own some decent headphones and I keep most of my music at 320kbps or V0 mp3, but there's no way in hell I'd pay $20 a month for FLAC streaming. If I was that interested in high quality audio I wouldn't be streaming, I'd be downloading and then listening. All audiophiles already do this.
The selling point was higher-quality music and exclusive releases.
So marketed to people who buy Beats. Excellent market strategy.
Goddamn, I completely forgot about Beats. Now I remember some guy was here with his Beats headphones, and we did a ridiculous comparison. My TV sounded better than those headphones.
