its basic social courtesy to not insult someone how is this escaping you
No I accept that but really it's not that much of a big deal. I more or less cannot see why its made the news. To be honest it seems like the description wasn't meant to be seen by anyone other than the person serving them. Its a completely wrong way of keep tracking of a group of guests but it doesn't seem to be more than that. [editline]8th December 2012[/editline]
It's pretty common practice to not insult your customers without cause. While these women are indeed obese, it's not up to the waiter to call them out on that.
See my reply (hope automerge works). I kinda worded my post horribly wrong.
The manager apologized, but his first reaction was to offer 25 percent off the bill. The ladies were shocked. "He was like, 'Well, I can do 50 percent,' and we were just like, are you serious?" Huerta said.
I can't help but think this is a really bitchy thing to say. I'd take the half-off and be done with it. Also, it's not really a problem to me that the manager laughed. If one of my employees had typed "fat girls" on a receipt, I'm sure I'd giggle a little uncontrollably too. Oh, and inb4 Dori rating spam.

The next guy who serves these girls is probably going to write "Attention whores" on the next receipt. Seriously, they're just begging for a national pity party and trying to get something out of this.
maybe they should stop being fat
lol the basic point is that it's common courtesy to not act socially retarded
Yeah but you just know that its done all over the place without the customer ever seeing it, they did say the guy was new. Maybe he didn't expect that to be printed on the receipt. You could replace "fat girls" with any other (offensive) description of a group. Of course if the guy who did it knew full well it would appear on their receipt then its a slightly different matter.
NEW DRINKING GAME: Take a shot (not a glass, a shot) of beer (or something with the same amount of alcohol per volume) every time someone posts something that Dori doesn't agree with. Bonus if you can last 1 hour and still walk straight AND not hurl.

That might be what they are, but it's rude and unprofessional for a waiter to do that. Honestly, if you or your friends got a check labeled "dorky guy," "faggot," "retard," or some other negative label that applied, would you not be insulted? I'll grant you that 'faggot' and 'retard' are more insulting than 'fat,' but it's still labeling people in a negative way.

Wow. That guy should be fired, I don't care if the manager found it funny or not. It's disgraceful to the company. It's basically telling people; "We don't give a shit about our customers, deal with it." Doesn't matter if it was true, or not. It's the golden rule. Respect your customers, even if they're unintelligent, mentally retarded, overweight, or otherwise. Damn man, if I had his job. I wouldn't be blowing it on being a smartass.
but they aren't men are berated just as much men just don't make an issue out of it because raaar we're men and we're strong edit: fuck shit no this thread is going to turn in to equal rights or feminism or masculismsiam or something help
That is definitely not the case. I mean look no further than how Bobby Kotick and Jennifer Hepler are treated by gaming communities. Bobby Kotick gets flak for his terrible management of Activision while Jennifer Hepler for her awful writing. The difference between the two is while Kotick mostly just gets hate for his greed fueled tactics and not much in the way for his appearance, Hepler is relentlessly bashed for her appearance to the point where it earned her the lovely nickname of Hamburger Helper.
women are sensitive beings
It's usually the fat that are sensitive, being that they're fat and all and are subjected to stuff like this.

Maybe that is what my whole problem with the entire thing is. As someone else said, it seems they are just going for pity. I still believe it wasn't meant to be seen by them, I know it doesn't make it right but it kinda explains it. If its a busy evening and you have loads of groups of people in its one way of keeping track of people. (Although isn't this why table numbers exist.. might be a moot point really)
control + F "Like" That dialog.

It just sounded like you couldn't sympathize with them for being insulted. Have a friendly.
its basic social courtesy to not insult someone how is this escaping you
Yes, but last time I checked it's definitely an overreaction to make a news story of someone being rude to you. I mean it's stupid enough when a huge fuss is made over a politician calling someone a bigot to be fair
You're arguably being socially inept for labelling people socially inept for stupid reasons
oh goodness lmao

They are all obese. So, i'd say that's a pretty accurate description. Maybe they should stop being in denial and actually get off their asses and hit the gym.
Fat people need to face up to the fact that pretty much everyone identifies them as a fat person above anything else. Contrary to rumour, you can't get fat unless you eat a lot, slow metabolism or not. They need to take ownership of the fact that they're responsible for being fat messes. I guess the waiter was behaving very unprofessionally too and probably deserved discipline.
Not true, there are other ways to get fat that don't involve eating a lot, e.g certain medications, even a disease which causes inflammation in your body causing swelling and therefore looking fat.
What's wrong with fat, that seemed like a compliment to me.
oh goodness lmao
what
wow okay, it wasn't necessary to make a big deal out of it. yes the person who did it was a dick but just be a dick back and don't leave a tip. they're acting like somebody took a chunk out of them, but they just got called a name. remember that old saying? "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"? yeah they clearly never learned that. lol pre school logic. also after being called fat, it was a wakeup call for me to lose weight. and i did, and it was infinitely better than being fat. health AND physical appearance wise.
what
i honestly don't know why you're making an argument about me thinking that people who reinforce social stupidity are dumb
First thing I thought of... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXoNE14U_zM
Not true, there are other ways to get fat that don't involve eating a lot, e.g certain medications, even a disease which causes inflammation in your body causing swelling and therefore looking fat.
Why do so many people come on the defense making statements like this, really? Yes, while those are true causes, 99% of the cases aren't the result of this.
i honestly don't know why you're making an argument about me thinking that people reinforcing social stupidity is bad
It's just your arrogant overreaction at whoever you quoted seemed sort of emotionally inept in itself, going by your definition. That's it.
It's just your arrogant overreaction at whoever you quoted seemed sort of emotionally inept in itself, going by your definition. That's it.
lmao ok no, seriously, why reply?
lmao ok
oh you
