Sounds like it got the point he was trying to make exactly right. Would it be any different if he literally just said "you guys follow me around because you think i'm going to give you something to write about"? Would it be a problem with you then?
what cantona did was intelligent and funny what beouf is doing is not because it's obviously part of some weird long-term pretentious thing he's doing. the only thing i can't work out is whether a. this thing is some sort of social/art experiment and he's laughing all the way to the bank or b. this thing is some sort of social/art experiment and he genuinely thinks he is intelligent and profound or c. he's trying to be something he's not or d. all of the above
even stevens please no

References, homages to things are sometimes just fun to do. I think you're just leaning into this a little too hard.

I think it's hilarious. It's not a pretentious art gesture or whatever the fuck you guys are arguing about He's just joking around at the film festival. Especially since he was fucking with everyone earlier with that movie line
Why do people even care about Shia Labeouf ? He was a pretty forgettable actor.
or, maybe, he could just be using an applicable quote? References, homages to things are sometimes just fun to do. I think you're just leaning into this a little too hard.
oh my god it happened again someone on facepunch used their brain
or, maybe, he could just be using an applicable quote? References, homages to things are sometimes just fun to do. I think you're just leaning into this a little too hard.
what was it applicable to? cantona was hounded by the press for something he did (that was pretty fuckin terrible) and they ate up everything he said - he was pretty much the world's most famous, most loved, and also most hated sportsman labeouf is pretty much a joke at this point trying to claw his way into the limelight. all of the media attention he's getting is for this weird project of his where he steals work and quotes from people and goes out looking for the media it's not applicable because he's doing things in the exact opposite way to cantona's situation
sometimes MK Ultra wears off.
what was it applicable to? cantona was hounded by the press for something he did (that was pretty fuckin terrible) and they ate up everything he said - he was pretty much the world's most famous, most love, and also most hated sportsman at the time labeouf is pretty much a joke at this point trying to claw his way into the limelight. all of the media attention he's getting is for this weird project of his where he steals work and quotes from people and goes out looking for the media it's not applicable because he's doing things in the exact opposite way to cantona's situation
it is applicable because at this point, after all his controversy, no matter how dumb and insignificant you think it might be, people are going after him looking for rises and something juicy and unique to stir up even more controversy. Which, as you can tell by this thread alone, people love to bicker and argue and discuss about people being controversial. You use an egg in a cake and you use an egg to make pasta. They're used in different situations but, oh man, what do you know, an egg is still an egg!! Telling journalists to fuck off is still telling journalists to fuck off.
or maybe there isn't any "project" and he's just takin' a piss and having some fun?
i don't mean a literal project but come on he's been at this for like 2 years straight now. it's just really baffling
Shia labLebloof will be the next best thing, you'll all see!
Ak'z knows whats up. He's been right before.
I think someone forgot to take their medication! [SP]Seriously though, what's going on with him?[/SP]
Either he's trying to be funny an memorable by making fun of himself... Or he's actually in the midst of an emotional breakdown over retirement.
Just seems like to me, Shia Labeouf just doesn't want to be in the spotlight anymore. I can respect that, he just wants to be alone now.
Just seems like to me, Shia Labeouf just doesn't want to be in the spotlight anymore.
i highly doubt that someone who goes to an event with a paper bag like that over his head isn't looking for attention, one way or another
i highly doubt that someone who goes to an event with a paper bag like that over his head isn't looking for attention, one way or another
well because this was a statement, he knows damn well he can't just fade off like that into obscurity, people love to lambast him. Sure doing this will gain more attention but also get the message out there at which point he can just try his best to drop off the radar.

I don't know, his statement kind of has longer running themes in the film industry. The industry celebrates the top 1% of actors, the super famous and what not. They're a super small portion of the amount of people who act. But the rest of the industry and world doesn't even look at the rest of the field of actors like they're worth anything at all in comparison on absolutely no solid metric what so ever. They're just largely discounted and forgotten about. Maybe in a way he's trying to say actors in general don't deserve this level of attention
Just seems like an attention grab from a mediocre actor. Can't be famous for my "no-no-no-no-no-no-no" style of acting? Better do some silly things to garner more attention even if it is the bad kind.
Definitely some kind of social experiment or publicity stunt
I really like Shia LaBeouf as an actor. Hope to see him in the industry for a long time.

Should have done a Marilyn.

Who is this Shia LaBeouf guy? Never heard of him.
Shia LaBeouf and Joseph Gordon-Levitt think they're hot shit. Actors way more talented than these two hacks actually take time to meet fans and answer questions for hours.
