It needs to have a good controller
both a gamecube type controller, and a WASD + Mouse that are attached together. To suit different needs. Like how the Wii U has the gamepad, the wii remote and the pro controller.
THEN I don't want them involved with PC gaming. If they're that closed off they will not change their mind set by us basically handing them a half way point, especially when they're point is retarded to begin with.
It's really funny how ironic this is, considering that a lot of pc gaming communities regard consoles as inferior and peasants.
I fail to see how this linux based console will develop over the time, the competition is great and this is Valves first attempt at making a console, I hope it goes well for them.

Over your head and straight into space.

What do you guys think of this design (other than the handles, I couldn't get them right so I just left them)
also it might not be clear but the logo in the middle is a big button

ok revised version
i hope this turns out to be bullshit, because its a horrible idea no one likes linux, win 7 is way better.
Where is the ~ button?
combination of button presses.
think konami code.

I don't get it, why do they have to be related to keyboard buttons when it's a gamepad. ABXY?
You're right, it's you who's the problem.
Midas touch, except you fuck things up instead of turning it into gold.
Annnnnnnnd Fuck you. Because its not just me.
I don't get the massive hard on everyone has with Linux. There isn't anything super special about it really.

That would go pretty well if the WASD d-pad was bigger, games would still use that for movement (except for joystick necessary games) and allow to put more features to use with the joysticks

are you fucking kidding me, it's a free OS with very little overhead. What's not to love?
are you fucking kidding me, it's a free OS with very little overhead. What's not to love?
The fact there is lots of overhead.

It's unix-like and thus isn't a big pile of crap on a technical level like Windows or a console's OS.
This might be late, but I just realised. What if Half-Life 3 is taking so long to release because they wanted to make a linux build for Source 2 to release with the console?
That would give a good reason to buy the system.

in console fps games the d-pad is used for weapon switching, triggers on the top are shooting/aiming
and jumping is the "Q" button on your controller
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
besides why even tie the buttons to keyboard buttons in the first place
I had no idea that valve was even making a steam box, I thought it was a joke to be honest. *sigh* anything to delay half-life 3 further i guess.
The fact there is lots of overhead.
There really isn't. Once you start installing packages, DEs, WMs, running daemons, yeah the overhead builds up. But the basic kernel and tools is exceptionally light.
There really isn't. Once you start installing packages, DEs, WMs, running daemons, yeah the overhead builds up. But the basic kernel and tools is exceptionally light.
And the DEs themselves are still incredibly lightweight in comparison to some similar software.
If you turn a valve instead of pressing a button to turn it on, im in.
I'm pretty sure I know what this is, and I'm probably neither the first person nor the last to say this; But I think the Steam box is just a system that runs steam in BPM that's designed for your living room -- Thus, it will not need third party support.
Why did no one put 2 and 2 together when BPM was released?
it still needs third party support, as it will be marketed as a console
and a console without games is a failure
Big Picture Mode?
ah
and a console without games is a failure
ps3 wasn't that much of a failure.
ps3 wasn't that much of a failure.
It failed in the sense that Sony had so much of the market share in the previous generation and lost it in this one.
---
What I don't understand is how controllers will work.
Not every game is supported.
Maybe Valve will make it mandatory that all developers wishing to use steam must include controller support?
ps3 wasn't that much of a failure.
ps3 has no games is an old joke
also it's untrue
