$70/mo for 3mbps in Bumfuck, Wisconsin. Fuck you local ISPs for taking advantage of no competition around here.
Awyeah I hope they offer it where I live on the outer edge of Austin.
I'll never complain about just having 50 mb/s instead of 100 mb/s again after seeing this thread.
Damnit. Wish it was Dallas.
Austin NEEDS this.
Crime Warner (Time Warner) has had a monopoly over the entire region for decades. They charge exorbitant prices for shit speeds and terrible service. I have to pay $65 a month for JUST cable internet, and only get a terribly unreliable 15/2 connection. They give me used modems that constantly die and I have to get them to come out and replace them multiple times a year.
Other companies have tried to penetrate their stranglehold on the region, only to be crushed by them. They bribe the power company to not give easements on the power poles to other potential providers and outright sue potential startups with "unfair trade practices" and other bogus lawsuits to stay the monopoly. The only other choices that they've left alone are dialup, much slower and more expensive DSL or Clear Wireless which is slow, expensive and unreliable.
Just 20 miles away, there's Grande which offers 50/5 for $45 a month, but they'll never get here because of Crime Warner cock blocking.
If Google gets this going, I'll learn tap dancing just to tap dance holding a big FUCK YOU sign in front of the local TWC branch before throwing my modem in their office and driving off.
I hope they can come to San Antonio, I honestly think they should after Houston, because TWC overcharges our bill, just for internet we pay $95, without Television or phone.
And I usually don't make the choices in this house but I think we could get TV and Internet bundled better for the same price or a little lower.
The TWC "Triple Play" (Internet, Phone and TV) is a gimmick. While they say it's only $99 a month, they don't tell you about the equipment rental fees for all three services that are charged for monthly. This will knock the price up to probably $120 a month, then you have to pay like $5 for an IP address and taxes and fees on top of fees, etc.
When all of the dust settles, its like $150 a month, for the first year. After their "discount" runs out, it skyrockets up into the $200 - $300 range.
You can watch most TV shows online and you can use Google Voice for free phone calls, so there's absolutely no point in getting anything but Internet service from them.
I read the title as Australia.
I'm severely disappointed
to think this is currently the fastest speed i can get where i live. (which we only acquired a month ago)

fuck maybe i should move to austin.
I'm so glad TWC moved out of Houston.

A major city in the US don't have fiber? Wtf, here in Sweden even towns as small as my hometown with 500 people almost have fiber, we are even getting 4G soon too.

Average download speed in every place that isn't remotely a city in France.
Altho most cities got the fiber (100mb/sec), Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, Toulouse, Pau, Lilles etc etc. It's definitly easier to achieve in a small country. I feel you America, I feel you...

Also yeah, 4G coming in every city during 2013, should be rural areas at around 2015.
Google Fiber coming to Latvia = Never

We've had 4G for about a year here but the fastest home internet is still 1.5 megabit DSL
Why not Houston? All Austin has is music.
Now come to East Texas please!

Google Fiber's policy states that you cannot run a server while on their broadband, isn't that the main reason you'd want that much bandwidth in the first place? While I'm so glad that now individuals can get such speed, it seems ridiculous restricting people from using the one thing that can actually fully utilize it.
At some point Google fiber will move to New York, and I may most likely take up the offer.
But for now I'll just deal with this;

I do hope the people in here who have less do get it before we do.

I hope Canada gets it sometime soon.
