While I agree with Hawking, that an alien race may be dangerous, I still think we should try to make contact with extraterrestrial lifeforms, because it could answer so many of our current questions.
It is a risk, but a risk to be taken.

Well, as long as you can't prove it, my statistic is as true as yours.
Besides, I think Hawking has one major flaw in his theory: He thinks of aliens that behave the same way as humans, that is securing their own existence over everything else.
But what if there is a different thinking in other races across the universe? One that is friendlier and willing to share it's wisdom? It's as possible as our way of thinking.

I can't prove prove the magnitude I proposed, but using all logic the actual statistic is closer to my magnitude than your's by far.
