Risk of big earthquake on San Andreas fault rises after quake swarm at Salton Sea

And here's me wanting to move to the pacific northwest. Going to be interesting when it happens that's for sure. Really hoping it doesn't before I get my visa though.
Will be very interesting to see what happens when it does, especially seeing it from a modern day perspective with everything unfolding pretty much the moment it happens.

If you're up in the mountains like I am you're fine. You'll still feel it but the damage will not be nearly as bad as on the coast.
People have been preparing for this for years so I doubt we'll see anything like the 1906 quake but it obviously won't come without serious damage.

Honestly I've thought about more about how to help in the aftermath than how to actually survive it
California is pretty unprepared for the big-one. For any of our FP'ers on the coast, I wish you, your family, and friends the best of luck. It may not be the best of advice, but I'd get some emergency rations ready to go, and have a firearm to defend you and your family with.
A Big One would be the absolute worst way to end 2016, good lord.
Spells serious trouble for the whole west coast, factoring in the Cascadian subduction zone likely experiencing a shift that would send a massive tsunami capable of wrecking anything near sea level west of I-5.

How so? I have heard about this earthquake constantly, buildings are held under strict regulation to be more safe and we had disaster relief/preparation drilled into our heads since elementary school. Don't get me wrong it's still going to be bad but it'll not be armageddon for the west coast.
There was also a quake 'swarm' near a large volcano is iceland.

The Katla volcano has not had a major eruption since the beginning of the last century, but scientists think a large eruption is overdue.

California has been hamering earthquake safety into everything and everyone since all of SF burned down in the early 1900s and again a little less than 30 years ago when the Loma Prieta earthquake hit and fucked up a lot of our bridges and overpasses. My house was built in the 50s with my bedroom built in like 2005 so I'm the most earthquake safe in the house unless the shelves I have on my wall fall and drop my textbooks on me. The shelves are from Ikea so they'll probably just break when they hit my head
Where as in Vancouver, we have postponed "Earth quake upgrades" to schools until the end of 2022 because they're too expensive right now
Something tell me a super volcano might start erupting. So many earthquakes going off once tend to be a bad sign.

if yellowstone goes up then north america can kiss its ass goodbye

Good thing the San Andreas fault is nowhere near the Yellowstone Caldera and thus gives no indication of any eruption.

Isn't the entire world fucked if Yellowstone erupts
What about the cascades? Could this activate one of those volcanoes?

Vancouver Island's natural gas pipeline connects to the mainland in one location. Expect to hear about gas service being nonexistent on the island for weeks after the quake hits.
If the big one hits in Winter, basically everyone's fucked here, even if they survive the quake with their house intact.
I'm just think how if the fault does break, how the would impact the entertainment industry. That's such a huge part of America's Economy and Culture.

mt tahoma could potentially be set off by the cascadia fault going off

Well iirrc a volcano in Colima Mexico just erupted, maybe it's related? The salton sea isn't too far from the border and the faults are probably all related to each other somehow.
Anyways apparently there was another swarm just now. Everyone pack some supplies and ammo. :tinfoil:
Stay safe guys

It's not going to erupt anytime soon, thankfully.

Yellowstone is so far from Salton Sea and the San Andreas fault in general that I doubt a 7.0+ earthquake would cause eruption.
West Coaster here. Huntington Beach, California. I think we'll be fine, bar some flooding and minor structural damage. Most of the buildings here are earthquake safe.
Though it admittedly feels weird, like living on the edge of Armageddon almost.
Last I checked, FEMA's drawing the line of probable destruction along I-5. Guess what interstate I happen to live next to?
If I'm not fucked when the Big One hits, I'm right there on the edge of it.

Every day, SoCal has been hit with 3.0's and 4.0's. This is usually a pretty straight forward indicator that shit is about to hit the fan. Seriously, I hope you guys took my advice now. You guys are gonna need it.
i should buy a surf board if cali breaks away and arizona becomes part of the ocean
7.0 or greater, RIP CA if this is going to be a megathrust earthquake. Stay safe in the event said earthquake occurs.
Well it is due soon I believe. If it goes off its just in time for my masters project though :v:
