They have ways of figuring out a persons mental state in prison you know.
This guys diagnosis: A fucking nutter.
Next patient?
Anything I can watch that's live? Stream of local news or something?
Mass murders are the type of people who have gone above & beyond a redeemable human, that's why.
Ok, and what should a just way of dealing with him be after you have captured him?
This guys diagnosis: A fucking nutter.

Usually it is not as simple as this.
Why for the rest of his life?
Why manual labour?
Because if he's doing something while he's behind bars, at least then he can contribute to the society he tried to rip a hole in.
Are you sure?
They have ways of figuring out a persons mental state in prison you know.
like that will do anything, either he'll be locked up for the rest of his life and hopefully that'll happen or they'll just let him out years later and he'll come out worse than he went in.
the only one in need of rehab is u m8 you need to check yourself into Shitposter Anonymous.
Anything I can watch that's live? Stream of local news or something?
http://www.cbc.ca/thenational/watch/
Closest I could find, they talk about other stuff too though.
Anything I can watch that's live? Stream of local news or something?
Proper Local news is off for the night, might be some bigger news station reporting though. There will be news out pretty fast if they get him down or captured I'm sure
Because if he's doing something while he's behind bars, at least then he can contribute to the society he tried to rip a hole in.
I mean why manual labour in particular as opposed to other forms?
Are you really supporting manual labour as the just way, or is there a bias involved towards manual labour in particular?
Ok, and what should a just way of dealing with him be after you have captured him?
Answer this question first. Were Seung-Hui Cho to be captured alive, and they chose not to execute him, do you think you could just "rehabilitate" him? Just say that "oh it's all in his head and he can be fixed"? Would you say that?
Ok, and what should a just way of dealing with him be after you have captured him?
Death. Honestly, serial and spree killers should be the only people getting capital punishment.
Are you kidding? He's Canadian, he'll just say "sorry," they'll say "sorry," then it's back to shooting again.
Hahahaha....people are dying.
like that will do anything, either he'll be locked up for the rest of his life and hopefully that'll happen or they'll just let him out years later and he'll come out worse than he went in.
How can you meaningfully predict what he will be like in 25 years?
"But then we can just imprison him for a really long time!" Which will achieve nothing and, according to the other side, will "be torture" (oh boo hoo!)
"We can rehab--" no. no you can't. He's willingly taken the lives of other people without precedent, and is currently willing to do it again.
Sorry, but you don't have the qualifications to be the judge of that.
I mean why manual labour in particular as opposed to other forms?

Manual labour was the first thing that came to mind because it's exhausting, time-consuming, and not even remotely fun, and I want him doing something that fits all three of those criteria while behind bars.
Answer this question first. Were Seung-Hui Cho to be captured alive, and they chose not to execute him, do you think you could just "rehabilitate" him? Just say that "oh it's all in his head and he can be fixed"? Would you say that?
I think they could at the very least put him in an enclosed space and try to the best of their abilities to rehabilitate him. Failing that, to keep him in there so he does not harm himself or others.
Death. Honestly, serial and spree killers should be the only people getting capital punishment.
What would killing him solve?
Manual labour was the first thing that came to mind because it's exhausting, time-consuming, and not even remotely fun, and I want him doing something that fits all three of those criteria while behind bars.
Why?
His manual labour wouldn't exactly very productive for either the prisoner or society.
Why does it need to be deliberately unpleasant? Does it help him or society?
Apparently hes shot 5 cops so far, and is only targeting cops
Holy shit the RCMP suck though
Really, you think any other police force could handle this better? The RCMP don't "suck", they do a damn good job when not being shot at, this isn't a regular day. Even more so in Moncton, NB.
We abolished the death penalty in the '70s. What I'm concerned about is the way our parole system works, this guy has the potential to be out in 25 years.
This guy is not likely to be getting out of this alive. Not like the RCMP can't kill someone who is shooting them. Its more common then people seem to think.
Also these "Canada lol" jokes are a bit out of hand.
Just say that "oh it's all in his head and he can be fixed"? Would you say that?
No I wouldn't; How can a bullet in your head be fixed :v:
I agree with Sobotnik. I hope he gets taken alive, can stand a fair trial, and a proper attempt can be made at repairing his mental state.
And eye for an eye is not an effective way to run a justice system, whatever they have done someone should only be killed if they absolutely have to be.
The highest likelyness is he won't make it out of this alive, and even if he does make it to jail it is again unlikely that he can be helped, but the chance should be given.
What would killing him solve?
It would solve about a hundred thousand municipal dollars being wasted on the maintenance of someone who clearly does not want what the government has to give him
What would killing him solve?
Prevention of future lives being lost to him; saving the tax payer money from keeping him alive, assurance that he will never again walk free, the families of three dead officers having relief that justice was served on equal grounds as their loved ones were taken.
the better question is what would keeping him alive accomplish.

Alas, this is not how modern societies are run. We do not deliberately kill people because it saves money or out of a sense of justice or revenge.

Define justice.

What happened to your inner utilitarian? I thought you'd be all for this.
So how far is City 6 from City 17?
What happened to your inner utilitarian? I thought you'd be all for this.
Utilitarianism is basically "maximize human happiness".
Does killing the man increase human happiness? Does it make the families of the cops happier?
Killing people is bad

no in this sense it's killing to save others lives not to just kill him for the fuck of it.

Potentially. Family members of the victims may be happy knowing that he'll never be able to kill again, let alone breathe. Tax dollars really shouldn't go toward keeping someone alive that intentionally murdered multiple people in cold blood.
no in this sense it's killing to save others lives not to just kill him for the fuck of it.
He seemed to heavily imply from his post it was preferable to kill him than to take him in alive, based largely upon how much it would cost.

People are pleased by hearing somebody is executed?
If tax dollars shouldn't be used to keep people alive who murder those in cold blood, we ought to abolish all armies.
