• Obamacare replacement vote withdrawn after lack of support
    89 replies, posted
Ryan press conference notes: -Republicans acknowledge they are having "growing pains" as they go from opposition to being in power. -Ryan told Trump they should pull it. -Ryan believes the bill would improve the healthcare system. -Ryan believes Obamacare will get worse. -All members could contribute to the bill (isn't that the usual?) -Trump did everything possible to get people to vote yes. -Bill failing is a setback. -Republicans committed to honoring their promises. -Ryan believes Obamacare is so flawed that it cannot be propped up any further. -Republicans definitely did not get consensus, ergo they pulled the bill. -The BILL was pulled, not just the vote, based on what Ryan says. -Republicans set to edit the bill to get consensus for it to pass. -Some of the "No" votes were converted to "Yes" votes, but not enough to pass the bill. -Obamacare is the "law of the land" until it is replaced. -Ryan has no idea how long it will take to replace the law, "foreseeable future" is how long it'll be in effect. -Ryan says consensus for the fifteenth time. -Ryan acknowledges it is difficult to get 216 people to agree on something. -Republicans set to move on with the rest of their agenda despite the healthcare plan failing. -Tax reform, infrastructure, border security and military rebuilding is on the agenda. -This failure is not representative of the future of the government. The Republicans agree on a lot of other things, just not this. -Ryan says it was easier in opposition because they could just say "no", now they actually have to agree on things. -Republicans "disappointed" that they fell short. -The bill would have made "phase two" a lot easier. No clue what "phase two" is. Conference ended. Adding to OP.
Wasn't Obamacare bipartisan though? Hell the reason it turned out half-assed was because both sides got a say in the matter.
No http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2017/mar/16/luis-gutierrez/rep-gutierrez-says-hundreds-republican-amendments-/
Gutierrez said that "hundreds of Republican amendments were adopted" during the drafting of the 2010 health care law. His statement has some basis, because Republican amendments were adopted in both the House and the Senate during the legislative process. Most of these amendments were not particularly meaningful, though, so calling it a bipartisan enactment effort remains a stretch.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/sep/09/barack-obama/Obama-says-health-plan-incorporates-ideas-of-Democ/
When Obama said the health plan incorporated ideas from Democrats and Republicans, we think he grossly overstated the bipartisanship of the process to date. Both sides claim the other party is to blame for that, an issue that we will not wade into here. However, we note that none of the plans that have graduated from congressional committees have received a single Republican vote. Yes, Congress adopted dozens of the amendments proposed by Republicans, but we couldn't find any that dramatically altered the plan.

Fucking what
Well he did say that if his bill failed he was going to blame the dems http://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/09/trump-reportedly-says-hell-blame-democrats-if-gop-health-care-plan-fails.html
Fucking what
Blame the other party and making nonsensical claims. So at least this is normal as normal can get.
Can a mod change the word "vote" to "bill" in the title. Ryan says the bill was pulled in the press conference, and so does the Washington Post in their article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/house-leaders-prepare-to-vote-friday-on-health-care-reform/2017/03/24/736f1cd6-1081-11e7-9d5a-a83e627dc120_story.html?
Amazing. Judging from Trump's remarks (assuming they have any credibility) it looks like he's going to scrap the replacement entirely and instead try to sabotage the ACA further in an effort to make people so desperate that they return to the negotiating table. This is what it looks like when strong-arm business tactics, unsuccessful ones at that, are applied to governing. Trump is going to have a fantastically shitty four years in office if he keeps this up...
The bill would have made "phase two" a lot easier. No clue what "phase two" is.
uh oh. looks like they messed with the Illuminati's plans.

Fucking pathetic.
The American political parties are so incompetent. First the Democrats lose to fucking Donald Trump and now the Republicans can't even repeal legislation that they've been fanatically denouncing for the better part of a decade.
There is not enough popcorn in the world for the impending twitter shitstorm tomorrow morning at 3 am [editline]24th March 2017[/editline]

Democrats were going to refuse it in the first place. Point the finger at your own "party" moron.

Fine, we'll see how you like your Obamacare once I halve its budget and then stab this ski pole through it a few times and leave it for dead!" What could possibly go wrong with this line of thinking? :class: What I love about blaming the Democrats is that the Republicans control Congress and couldn't whip enough votes in either chamber. The pinnacle of deflecting failure.
Can't wait for the mid-terms to absolutely fuck the Republicans out of the House and Senate, and this failure has just made it all the sweeter
seems like if you want democrat support maybe you should have been talking to them or even acknowledging they existed... i mean how many meetings did they get for this bill, what compromises did ryan make, did he even offer them a single slice of all that pizza yesterday? the answer is they tried to rule as a single party and failed misserably

What a fucking savage

Hah! You better have burn heal!
"Fuck Obamacare! Democrats suck! Pathetic losers! By the way, can you guys please help me pass this shitty bill that's going to completely destroy the bill you guys passed seven years ago and literally kill millions of Americans? Pretty please? That would be great." Moron.

But... the republicans hold the majority, what's the difference if no democrats support it Like they ever supported ACA. In fact I remember them holding the country hostage for 13 days trying to get ACA repealed, you know, the complete opposite of democracy and how the country works?
But... the republicans hold the majority, what's the difference if no democrats support it
Trump is just trying to bait people and distract. It is of course the Republicans that caused all the problems.
Literally the only thing the GOP has be frothing at the mouth to do since Obamacare became a thing. And they can't even get themselves together to actually do it...
They're pathetic. They wasted all of these years without ever bothering to come up with an actual replacement, and this is what it led to. I mean, the bill isn't actually dead. It's just off the table for now. Still, this is embarrassing for them.
Moral of the story is that the Republicans don't really have that much in common with each other except hating obama
Moral of the story is that the Republicans don't really have that much in common with each other except hating obama
I saw a comment of reddit talking about how the Republicans spent 7 years focusing all their energy on the OBAMA part of Obamacare instead of the CARE part
This is such a victory for all Americans. I could not be any fucking happier that this piece of shit bill died. I was seriously worried that there would be actually be thousands if not millions of casualties over the years thanks to this bill. Good riddance.

This is a fantastic stepping stone to work towards a possibility for a single payer system for a new administration in 2020.
It must be pretty embarassing to be a conservative these days. I can't imagine how awful it feels to have a super majority in the US government and still be unable to get anything done.
