That's fairly short but I wonder what difficulty it was on if on easy or the like that can effect some of the play time.
Difficulty always does.
Games like Quake add more enemies, games like Half-Life 2/Skyrim/Borderlands/CoD add more health and damage done to player, etc.

I'd agree with what he says if he wasn't so full of himself over a game that, to be as kind as possible, didn't exactly match the expectactions
Here's my problem with video games that purposefully add letterbox/pillarbox to gameplay.
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22953483/wastedscreenspace.png[/t]
Look at ALL that wasted space!
There is no excuse. Those black bars are potentially hiding things from me that I would need to be aware of. Of course only having an hour and a half of actual gameplay, this game is a poor example of limited view. It's just a glorified interactive movie.
And it just looks ugly. I buy a monitor so it can be used. Not so it can have black bars everywhere.
You know what's even more funny, we already have widescreens so having these "cinematic bars" is nothing more but a stupid choice.
I decided not the buy The Order and just buy Bloodborne digital as well as the collector version so I can play it on the 24th US release and still get the goodies
I watched TO on Youtube instead, around 6 hour playtime, and the guy was leisurely as fuck :v:
yeah no thanks

Using his analogy, that 200g steak, despite tasting incredible, would hardly fill you up (and that's generous anyway, The Order is hardly 'the best tasting steak ever' when you look at the stale gameplay and unfilfilling story)
There are 'steaks' that exist that not only are delicious, but fill you right up and more, such as Last of Us, GTAV and probably the Phantom Pain if we're comparing games that combine gameplay with narrative
Excellent gameplay, excellent narrative, and medium/long playtimes is what AAA should be
It's a shame, since the artists were absolutely on point, one of the best looking games ever made and the design of the alternate universe Victorian London is great
On another point, it's best not to whinge and call everyone 'bullies' when it's clear that the reviewers and the general public aren't exactly enamored by your game
Respect your audience, and respect the fact that your game didn't meet expectations flawlessly
It's like they give you 200g of mediocre steak and only let you eat 1/5th of that, rest is just looking at it.

I HATE it when games do that!
Also...bullies? Really? The internet is full of negative nelly's I'll give them that, but a bad game is a bad game and you should feel bad for making it.
I'm surprised it's been given such bad reviews. I'm loving this game. And I don't even mind that it doesn't have a multiplayer as multiplayer games nowadays are all the same.
Literally no game has ever looked this good. It’s strange to even write that, but The Order: 1886 raises the bar so far above its contemporaries that it stands in a class by itself. Joined by a soundtrack that perfects the mood, The Order is a cinematic masterpiece.
Highest review excerpt on metacritic sounds like a movie synopsis from rotten tomatoes
my personal opinion of the game is that it sucks, but it has potential for a great sequel.
if they just focus on making the gameplay good, improve the story so they actually do something with the plot points they introduce, and untouch the rest. i wanna see more nikola tesla because he was the only character i liked alot.
it could possibly be the uncharted of the PS4. Shit first game, amazing second game, ok third game.

But the first Uncharted was hardly shit. The later games just happened to massively improve over it in every way making it "retroactively shit" in comparison.

The original Uncharted had quite a lot of stuff that was shit at the time. Like the fucking motion controls.
i hope they call the next game the order: 1887

People across the Internet bitching about a game they haven't even played isn't savvy consumers criticizing a poor title, it's a bandwagon. It's not surprising that I keep seeing comments like 'hey I played it and this is actually better than everyone says'.
The original Uncharted had quite a lot of stuff that was shit at the time. Like the fucking motion controls.
The Gunplay was soo much ass. (also the final boss was QTE and the melee was just timing buttholery)
And lets not forget the original Resistance looked like a late era PS2 game as well as the original InFamous had wonky controls as well.
And then there was the original Killzone.
Sony loves to make chances but they never really hold it over the developers' head so the developer's failures are usually something the developer has to learn from.

The Order 1886 is a game with a really good looking lore and I'm excited to see if they learn enough that they create sequels which are much better.

And it's sequel; The Order: 1888 sweeps review sites, getting a remarkable 8.8/10.
The original Uncharted had quite a lot of stuff that was shit at the time. Like the fucking motion controls.
Yeah the motion controls fucked me over once or twice. But considering it was released quite early in the life of the PS3, and nobody knew what the fuck they were doing I'm not too surprised things like that were awful.
For the most part though the game was fine, a bit clunky compared to later ones, but it played well still. And looked pretty great for a early title. Naughty Dog seem to do that with the first game of a new IP, the first Crash was weird as fuck compared to the later ones, the fist Jak and Daxter game was incredibly simple compared to the later ones, the first Uncharted was rough around the edges and a bit short if I recall. But they are all playable and very enjoyable games still.
Ready at Dawn clearly have something similar going on here, it's quite a different style of game for them to make, and they obviously had massive expectations of what they could get done and what they wanted from it. Given a chance to make more games in the series there's a chance they'll work it out, get the mechanics sorted so they are interesting and include more in the game overall. First titles in any new IP tend to either do really well or slip up a bit, causing all trust in the IP to just vanish even if it was promising.
Damn, I was hoping this game would be good. Not since I have a PS4, I don't yet, since there isn't any games I want for it yet. But since someone gave out some Infamous/The Order posters out and I had a couple. Now I have to take them down. Damn.
I've heard that the game proper, as cinematic as it is, isn't exactly a walk in the park: the covers are destructible, the enemies will always try to flush you out with granades and/or put a shotgun shell up your ass, your regeneration factor doesn't kick off as quickly as you would like it to and ammo management is important
Is any of the above true?

The footage I watched didn't look that challenging, but I saw some bullshit like getting hit despite being crouched behind cover from a shotgun blast, then the player healing on the ground and for some reason standing straight up afterwards and getting blasted again
That was a shotgun specialist I think, two hits and they down you, it's ridiculous if there's two of them around
There's also a guy that wears armour and needs two clips pumped into him, literally a bullet sponge
You know what's even more funny, we already have widescreens so having these "cinematic bars" is nothing more but a stupid choice.
The black bars are there so they don't have as many pixels to render lol
Remove the bars and the frame rate would tank even more

That stuttering on the stairs.
It's good that they have a collision mesh with steps, but then please also add camera position smoothing.
Isn't it kind of a bit embarassing, that a console exclusive for the next gen already performs so bad, at the beginning of the cycle?

Not really...most games on a console early in its life have performance issues. Only a small few actually perform flawlessly. Developers need time to learn how to optimise games for the architecture and APIs provided for the console ("hurr hurr dey x86!!!" is incorrect, there's more to architecture than machine code), a good portion of the PS3s library ran like ass for a couple of years, the 360 had some performance issues with titles trying to do too much too soon too. It's quite common.

People in general are judging the new generation of consoles far too harshly right out the gate, no console had stunning games immediately.

This is a late-life PS1 game.
They're far from the same genre, but that's not my point. At the start of it's life, you had shit like Starwinder with horrible FMV and graphics. The whole game is just ugly and wierd, and it's because the developers didn't know how to work with the PS1 properly. Silent Hill, released in 1999, is an example of a game made by people who had experience working on the console, and after the console has been documented and worked with for years, and it shows.
