A child that was taken away from her father was horribly murdered by her foster parents and you only see this as an opportunity for Marijuana to get legalized
Ok MJ laws have nothing to do with the child being taken away and if you mention pot laws you're just thinking of yourself getting high. You've got it figured out, dude. It's not the entire point of the story but it's still very relevant. Custody laws are a huge problem that doesn't have as much attention as weed but it goes hand in hand.
Nope, story is all wrong, smoking marijuana likely had nothing to do with the children being taken away. I remember seeing this headline on reddit, and all they did was say they smoked pot, they NEVER said that was the reason the child was taken.

The foster care system is a fucking joke, yes, but it's not like they're taking kids from perfectly innocent parents who just smoked weed one time while their kids were peacefully sleeping.
You know how in every single Shooting thread there's always those posters, you know the ones "Well, if gun control were tighter, this wouldn't happen " "Well you're an idiot because yada yada yada"
Stop pushing politics for a minute and just recognize the tragedy for what it is, A tragedy.
Incredibly dumb logic both here and in shooting threads. People being shot to death is a perfect time to discuss gun control, and people losing their children for using cannabis is the perfect time to discuss drug law. I've never understood this faux righteous indignation.
If you want to take that route then you should more so go after the fact that the caretaker herself wasn't looked into, That seems to be a much bigger reason why the girl was killed than the fact she was taken because he was smoking pot. If you're going to be outraged about something be outraged for the right reason, Pot laws are ridiculous yes, But They aren't the reason this child is dead.
If you actually read the posts you are replying to rather than climbing up onto your moral pedestal you would notice that absolutely no one is saying that the fault doesn't lie with the foster parents, just pointing out that cannabis laws that would lead parents to losing custody of their children are ridiculously sad and unnecessary. You admitting that "pot laws are ridiculous" but trying to shoot down any criticism of them is pretty funny though.

Someone already covered this but no one has explained how the charge of neglectful supervision was laid out specifically. I'd be more interested in that than hearsay.

Also I don't know if this is ~the right time~ to talk about it but foster home background checks are done by a private company in Texas who has found 15 deficiencies in the past two years in Austin alone
Officials with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services tell KVUE they rely on private child placing agencies to perform background checks on all foster homes.
The agency in this case is called Texas Mentor and state records show 15 total deficiencies for the Austin branch of that agency over the past two years.
Four of those deficiencies were for failing to perform proper background checks on people who live in foster homes.
I wonder how much money Texas is saving using a privatized service for something that should definitely be handled by the government.
The foster care system in Maine had something like this happen a couple years ago, they completely reworked the system and booted out a lot of parents . This right here is the fucking overseeing company/states fault.
I'am in foster care (will be until I'm 21) I know how most of the system works, so for something like this to happen it takes a mega fuck up on the company/state end.
Don't you all start hating on foster care just because there are shitstains out there who do this. Not every foster family keeps their kids locked up in the basement.
I KNEW MARIJUANA CAN KILL CHILDREN ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE EVERY CHILD OVERDOSES ON MARIHUANA OR STARTS INJECTING IT AND ENDS UP GETTING AIDS
THIS STORY IS PROOF THAT ANYONE SMOKING SATANS HERB SHOULD BE PUT TO DEATH
GOD BLESS OBONGO BIN LADDEN
That woman was a fucking ogre.

yep, that definitely looks like someone who would beat a 2 year old to death.
A child has died and all you can care about is that weed should be legal.
There is a time, and a place. This is neither of those.
On the correlating note, this is fucking disgusting. There need to be more serious evaluations for couples looking to become foster parents.
Yeah, a child died because a law removed her from the care of a perfectly fine parent.
How is that NOT important in this issue?
Seriously. How?

Why is it that any time a tragedy happens because of bad policy it suddenly becomes an "inappropriate" time to talk about that policy
Why is it that any time a tragedy happens because of bad policy it suddenly becomes an "inappropriate" time to talk about that policy
People think that issues like this are so sad that we need to respect the tragedy by not talking about anything besides how sad they are
But really, discussion over what caused the tragedy is the first step in preventing further occurrences.
Did this happen to be a gay dad by any chance?
if it's because of passive marijuana innhalation, they better take away kids from cigarette smokers, or if it is because of the effects of marijuana, they should take away kids from drinkers too.
Wow...I don't even know what to say.
FUCK the fucking government.

I wish my dad smoked pot
that'd be the coolest thing ever

Except that this is the reason nothing gets done in America, because people want to sit around in their fucking self-pity forever and not do anything about it

God, this story pisses me off to no end. And none of my friends and family can understand why I possibly want to emigrate.

She
Texas doesn't perform psychiatric test on foster parents?
This is so fucked up. I can't believe shit like this can happen.
I'm usually against the death penalty but you can always make exceptions..
WHY DOES SMOKING WEED GET YOUR KID TAKEN AWAY
WHY DOES SMOKING WEED GET YOUR KID TAKEN AWAY
Because it's a dangerous drug. Most parents who excessively smoke weed abuse their children. Oh wait no, that's alcohol. Lol.
