Damn, I remember studying that painting. Freedom, the woman, leading every social class, to the poor, to the rich, together and as one bring the revolution and finally have a democracy. Ruined for some 9/11 accident. Who else would like to nuke people like that vandal?
Dont' worry my friend, the painting wasn't ruined, like someone already mentioned above,
The Louvre confirmed on Friday it had managed to save the painting as the black marker had not penetrated the upper layer of varnish and has been successfully removed.
It is truly a beautiful piece, and I'd be sad if these kinds of incidents lead to most museums using glass to protect them. It's quite different from have the thing right there, infront of your eyes, with nothing between both of you. It's almost an overwhelming sensation sometimes.
Why don't museums put the paintings behind a thin glass shield?
It wouldn't be the same. Part of the thrill of a museum like that is that there's nothing between you and the painting, and behind a glass shield reflections and such would ruin it. Or maybe I'm just weird.
Salvador Dali sort of already did that http://www.mus.ulaval.ca/lacasse/cours/Seminaires/Oeuvre/intertextualite.htm Here's a bunch of parodies/references of Mona Lisa by rather known artists, also a bunch of other paintings that were remade by other artists etc.
LHOOQ pwns, because pronouncing it in French sounds like "She has a hot ass". But in french. [editline]9th February 2013[/editline] Can't believe I just said "pwns"
Now that is true art. She's giving a new, unique meaning to a painting she didn't feel was worth the praise it gets. It's so avant garde. I don't see why people have a problem with this.
You can also describe death with as many pompous phrases, that doesn't mean I can go around killing people for the sake of art.
God damn whore
holy shit what a stupid bitch, she should be banned from the Louvre for that.
Wow man, a piece of priceless art massacred because some mongo cunt thinks 9/11 was done by the government. Well played retards, well played.
I just knew it would be some pretentious bitch with a political agenda.
At least now we know the truth about 9/11. Silver lining, guys.
no they don't. they varnish the paintings instead.
Someone must have thought of this as a worst-case scenario and decided to varnish it Good for him
I'd rather have a thin glass covering over a classic masterpiece than have some 4 year old's scribbles or a madwoman's conspiracies on it.
that's a false dichotomy. varnish protects the painting(as it did in this case). having good varnish is pretty much just as well as having glass but you can actually see the painting without glare.
At least 5 years and life probation. More if she tried to run.
That's the actual sentence? Life probation? The fuck? That's just disturbing for some reason. Treated like a criminal your entire life for coloring a picture? The fuck?
Well it is a famous painting that's worth a lot of money. And people aren't supposed to do shit like that in the first place. Throwing her in prison isn't a bad idea in my opinion, you can't just let her get away and just warn her not to do it again, that would encourage more vandalism such as this if people could get away easily.
That's the actual sentence? Life probation? The fuck? That's just disturbing for some reason. Treated like a criminal your entire life for coloring a picture? The fuck?
No?
That's the actual sentence? Life probation? The fuck? That's just disturbing for some reason. Treated like a criminal your entire life for coloring a picture? The fuck?
Well, it's property worth at least a coouple million euros, and just restoring the picture will cost a lot of money. It's essentially the same a robbing a good deal of money, and I don't see why it's less of a crime because it was done with a marker. I don't really agree with 5 years, but it's definitely a serious crime.

This is the second time it's been defaced, actually:
I didn't realize there were people in other countries that were 9/11 truthers I thought that type of stupidity was reserved only for Americans

I'm surprised I haven't seen a dozen of them considering this painting depicts the time period of the book.
I didn't realize there were people in other countries that were 9/11 truthers I thought that type of stupidity was reserved only for Americans
Itiotism is not constrained just to Americans.
Well. For a second i thought she wrote A113. Like in all those pixar movies.
Wow that's some low security museum. I was at a museum before and they had glass and ropes around the exhibits, also you weren't allowed to even tough the glass. They had a few security guards there too (one of them told me not to touch the glass). So France just has these world famous paintings just sitting out there huh? Interesting.
good.
Reminds me of the thread where this aspiring artist went to a mesuem and trashed a painting, while calling it his own special artistic take and everyone in the thread defended him because no one else can understand the "real meaning of art"
yeah fp is always at the cutting edge of modern art appreciation (what the fuck are you talking about?)
I didn't realize there were people in other countries that were 9/11 truthers I thought that type of stupidity was reserved only for Americans
I met quite a couple in a trip to London once.

Well, I'm not really a Picasso fan either, I think Dali is superiour.
Dali was a hack and the definitely one of the worst of the surrealists edit: i.e: picasso owns bones
