They get indoctrinated, usually from Birth. It's not hereditary, it's gained.
That's only an excuse until you're 18. Once you're an adult it's your own fault if you're an ignorant hick
oh glaber where are you
I'm sorry, but your flame target was in another topic. Looks like Fox isn't alone.
By the way, the rest of the media was not blameless. CNN and the broadcast network news operations fared only slightly better in many cases. Even MSNBC, which had the best record of accurately informing viewers, has a ways to go before it can brag about it.
So it looks like all of our favorite news stations need to work on it. Of course, it's not called "The Idiot Box" for nothing.
I'll give you that not-so-bright people are typically gullible enough to listen to anything, though I know a few shut-ins who are book-smart but lack common sense. Isn't intelligence and gullibility two different things?

I get most of my news from online sources, especially BBC News, Al-Jazeera English, and the New York Times, and I also listen to NPR in the car.
also FARK is great
the thing that pisses me off about fark is the number of batshit insane links that get greenlit, both on the left and the right
eh, it brings the cheddar in
I think the title of the thread is somewhat inaccurate. Fox News doesn't necessarily make you stupid. What the title should be is that it doesn't inform you of the truth. If you're already stupid, watching Fox News may not make you stupider, but it isn't going to help you become informed.
agreed [editline]16th December 2010[/editline]
I don't watch CNN or MSNBC. Why did it take a study to prove this? Couldn't you just look at the viewer base?
I'm not surprised. [editline]15th December 2010[/editline] In fact, I am not surprised that I am not surprised.
Why did it take a study to prove this? Couldn't you just look at the viewer base?
Making sweeping generalizations like that isn't scientific at all. If you want to actually be taken seriously, you should probably do some research even if the answer seems obvious.

when kim jong il isnt busy funding warheads that fail, he's busy supporting fox news
Making sweeping generalizations like that isn't scientific at all. If you want to actually be taken seriously, you should probably do some research even if the answer seems obvious.
Pretty much this. I've always disliked it when someone states something along the lines of "why did we need a study for this?". This type of generalization cannot be accepted as fact, you will need research to be done in order to provide real sufficient scientific evidence for that claim, no matter how obvious it may seem.

I feel sorry for those of you with family who are religious to this crap.
everyone knows American pies are 93% larger than your normal pies
god dammit :smith:
I'd like to see how other News stations like the BBC compaire to this.

Fox News doesn't cause stupidity, but seems to attract those who can't see the misconceptions in their stories. The original study explains it a lot better. So can we actually make Fox news Banned from the News Section...or was it banned already ?
So can we actually make Fox news Banned from the News Section...or was it banned already ?
No way, we need some humor in that section from time to time.
BBC is best news source.
lol fox news
Fox News is one of the major setbacks for our democracy. I know lots of people like to joke "lol faux news lets just make fun of them and the people who watch it" when this is really a serious problem. A large portion of our nation is being mislead by propaganda that is somehow allowed to call itself news. As a libertarian I believe in complete freedom of speech, but I don't think that freedom includes being able to lie to people and call propaganda news. We should extend the laws regarding false advertising to include media outlets.
