Interestingly the demon had UAC machine parts. Is this game continuing off the story of Doom 3?
Although it seems they have gone the route of having even more generic demons. I mean, the ones in Doom 3 were pretty distinctive, even if they weren't that interestingly designed.
My biggest hope for Doom 4 is that they just returned to the art style of the old games, with a modern twist of course. The original Doom was all over the place with its monster designs, ranging from medieval, Baal-esque demons with goat legs, to the Cacodemon which was ripped off of D&D, and the spider-demon with it's high-tech robotic parts. It was all very charming on some level, in my opinion.
They fucked that up with Doom 3 of course, but I can't even blame them because obviously they tried going for something new. Judging from that demon in the teaser, it hasn't gotten any better though. Hopefully the rest of the enemies will look more interesting.
what's so bad with doom3 not being like doom
It doesn't provide the same pleasure. Doom 3 doesn't throw enemies at you and the environment is way too cramped. Also you don't feel as powerful against common enemies which is a important thing.
IT'S BACK

Doom3 was a Doom game. Doom 1 and 2, when played today, aren't the least bit scary. They're nothing impressive anymore. You just run and shoot. It's boring. Back in the day, it was terrifying for a while. It had genuine atmosphere. Doom 3 did just that.
We just don't live in a vacuum so looking at Doom 3 knowing how doom 1 and 2 play makes it look different, but if we really break it down, they're quite relatable games.

It could definitely be some version of it, but the design is still very 'updated'.

A far cry from this guy, who was essentially just a ripped dude with a demons head, some mechanical parts, a gun-hand and a hole in his stomach. It looks 'clean'. I miss the simplicity, and all I really want is to see a high-fidelity version of this.
This new demon looks like the cyberdemon if it had gotten a Gears of War treatment, cluttered with details like random metal parts and glowing lights.
Not gonna lie, I'm hype as fuck and that's something that rarely happens.
I loved Doom 3. I like the audio logs and e-mails and stuff (Reminded me of System Shock 2, probably my favourite game of all time) and I think they nailed the atmosphere as best they could. Don't get what everyone was up in arms about.
I can tell by the "on PlayStation 4" shown in this trailer, though
(it's not like i'm implying it will be a bad game, but gameplay wise it's going to be nothing like doom 1 and 2)
It's on the console so?
The original doom was made to be played with keyboard keys only.
Interestingly the demon had UAC machine parts. Is this game continuing off the story of Doom 3?
Since this is supposed to be a reboot I'm assuming that it'll be very similar but not exact. In Doom 3 it seemed the demons already had machine parts. The VO says "we let them in", so as dumb as it sounds perhaps the demons invaded a UAC base and armed themselves with tech that was there. But that doesn't seem plausible given the Cyberdemon's foot. (Which better be changed to a hoove) I think it's been said that it'll be more of a reboot than a sequel to Doom 3.
I just don't want it do try and be horror. I think the horror should be twined into the monster design and gore. Not just shut off the lights and play peakaboo for the entire game.

Did you just call Doom and Doom II boring?
Did you really?
My hype level is rising.

Boring? I fucking love playing it, there's so many mods you can get for it, it just makes it a hell of a lot more fun. Doom 3 was more horror oriented and jump scares, not to say it was a bad game, it was really fun, but I personally would like doom 4 to be more like 1-2 than 3.
god damn i can see his fucking pores.
I wish dook nookem got a revival like this. dook and doom go together. one's silly and fun, the other's bloody and fun.
I hope if they are using that door sound ingame, they use other sounds too.
It'd be great to hear that "mmmn" sound again when you use walls for no reason.
With this new Doom game, I want rip-and-tearing, flesh-from-bones-rending hardcore action, but I also want a horror component. I think Doom 3 was going in the right direction with the idea of making it a bit more of a horror game but, of course, the execution wasn't too great. I hope the new Doom can appeal to both high-adrenaline shooter fans and horror game enthusiasts. (Though of course the main focus would be action, I just want them to get a good mix of horror in too.)

Did you really just ignore his entire argument to get caught on one point he made?
Did you really?
The reality is yeah, Fun is a very subjective thing but its entirely objective that Doom is a very basic game by today's standards. The presentation back then was far more scary and impressive along with the gameplay.
I don't want Doom 1-2; I want Doom 4 to be itself no matter what that is. He had an entirely valid point that while not perfect, Doom 3 tried to go back to those roots and recreate what it was like.
They could easily make the game really eerie and atmospheric while still being run and gun action too, and I hope they manage to do so.

Not only are you too getting stuck on a small point but also are going on about modifications. Mods are great and I love em to bitsies, but they are not the actual game.
I want destructible environments similar to Wolf TNO as well
If its epic well done shooting like the new order, they got my purchase
Personally, i'd be satisfied with Wolfenstein: The New Order's player speed, it felt really good (sliding was cool too)
Haven't played it yet, but from what I see, its Doom3 with a bit of extra speed (do note, Doom 3 while holding down shift to sprint)
Which seems perfectly fine.
Just as long as it isn't the bunny hoping thing that makes it look like a speedrun.
Did you just call doom and Doom II boring?

i definitely see what he means, doom is great fun but it intrinsically has very little going on in terms of mechanics. you just shoot dudes with your guns while running very quickly. and it can't really do anything more than that if it wants to be a doom game, so if you want things to be happening all the time doom isn't really your kinda deal
[editline]10th June[/editline]
like compare doom to something like vanquish in terms of mechanics. vanquish a ton of stuff going on all at once, you got the slow motion, the cover system, the high damage, the greatly varied enemy types (which themselves need different approaches), the speed and general maneuverability, there's a lot of stuff there that you take into account when you're playing. doom only has speed and satisfying damage but uses them very effectively, and if that isn't enough for you then doom is gonna be boring.
They just need to strike a chord between doom 3 and doom 1/2 I think. Doom 3 had some good qualities that could really carry over well I think, but the franchise really needs some grand doom 2-esque "shoot em up en mass" elements as well. Doom 3 was too claustrophobic and too flashlight-oriented
I'd like to see Doom 3's player speed (well, maybe a bit faster) and weapon handling, but get some much bigger and more open game levels and big hoards of demonic enemies, lots of blood and gore and huge firefights with assault rifle-armed zombies and rocket-launching demons.
I actually loved Doom 3's sci-fi setting and scenery. Seems like we will have more of that.
And I'm kind of hoping for "clickety click" touchscreens for switches like in Doom 3. I honestly loved those.

I still have great fun with Doom and Doom II every now and then. They may be about 20 years old but they're still fantastic games. You're constantly in the heart of the action, it's hard to find a boring moment.

I'd disagree, this cyberdemon looks more H.R Giger-ish. In my opinion that's actually more appropriate for Doom considering that Doom 1's art was inspired by Giger.
ID was also going to make an aliens game originally too
I just hope they are demons and not aliens

I like how everyone is basically hoping that Doom 4 plays a lot like Painkiller.

If it's IdTech5, you won't have to worry about confusing gameplay and CG.
