Let me fight Lucifer one on one with a BFG already.
My girlfriend's uncle just got hired as a producer at ID Software for Doom, I'm really excited for him now
We have a man inside.
I still have great fun with Doom and Doom II every now and then. They may be about 20 years old but they're still fantastic games. You're constantly in the heart of the action, it's hard to find a boring moment.
What I might say might be a crime in video game world, but I just don't particularly like the first DooM's. I can see the appeal, and I could even enjoy them, but I will actually prefer Doom 3 over them. I just don't quite like games that can't give you a dull moment. I like it when they give me a story, a time to breath deep and stare at something... Even if the story is pretty simple. I liked all the PDAs with backstory on how everyone started going mental and seeing things. In a comparison to your "They may be about 20 years old..." comment... Doom 3 may not be the best game out of the whole series, but I at least still absolutely love it and still play it from time to time. It's the right level of scary aswell. Just scary enough for you to jump a bit but still enjoy and be able to keep on enjoying the game without getting to a point where keeping on playing at 3am might take the option of going to bed off of the table due to flying demon babies. [editline]11th June 2014[/editline]
I just hope they are demons and not aliens
I see Doom3's enemies as demons that lived on Mars/assaulted an ancient alien civilization that lived on Mars. But, how is the explanation on how they are fused with machienery? I either don't know or forgot how that happened.
They could easily make the game really eerie and atmospheric while still being run and gun action too, and I hope they manage to do so.
I think FEAR handled it pretty well. The combat was fast paced and brutal but it still managed to have its horror moments
Since this is supposed to be a reboot I'm assuming that it'll be very similar but not exact. In Doom 3 it seemed the demons already had machine parts. The VO says "we let them in", so as dumb as it sounds perhaps the demons invaded a UAC base and armed themselves with tech that was there. But that doesn't seem plausible given the Cyberdemon's foot. (Which better be changed to a hoove) I think it's been said that it'll be more of a reboot than a sequel to Doom 3.
If this is still within the Doom 3 canon, Betruger gave the UAC tech over to the demons.
Oh god yes
I want destructible environments similar to Wolf TNO as well
What destructible environments? A few crates and walls? Both RTCW and Wolf 2009 had more to destroy than TNO
Fuck a trailer (awesome still), I need some gameplay... Dayum!
If it is like Wolfenstein TNO, I just hope that A.) They don't put a stealth system in and B.) They make the bosses harder, TNOs I found way too easy. Also a bigger weapons selection.
HE'S BACK, AND HE'S ALL OUT OF GUM! :v:
Doomguy is here to rip guts and kick demons, and he's all out of... I dunno, guts?
Thinking about it, i hope they'll keep some classic sounds for the weapons too I'd love to hear again the epic "BOOM... CLICK CLACK CLOCK" of the SuperShotgun
Doom 1 is like the video game version of Shakepeare. It completely revolutionized everything about games and established fundamental gameplay concepts. The game also aged gracefully and it's amazing how games today don't look back at what made Doom's levels great. It's simple, fun, and doesn't take itself too serious. The levels are non-linear and intricate, but you never get lost. The guns are satisfying and not only balanced, but also gives a sense of progression. It's challenging, but rewarding. There is nothing added in that game that isn't necessary. The absolute biggest shame about Doom is how people never get past the first couple of levels before turning it off or resorting to mods. Nothing against mods, but you should at least play the vanilla game first. People say Doom is boring and those early levels appear so to many because we take the whole first person shooter thing for granted. But those levels were put there to establish concepts that were mind-blowing at the time like heights not being restricted to one floor, large moving geometry, and walls you can shoot through. Take the beginning of Portal for instance. The first few puzzles mostly consist of you placing blocks to open a door, but the game really takes off once everything's established and you acquire the fully upgraded Portal Gun.
I can tell by the "on PlayStation 4" shown in this trailer, though (it's not like i'm implying it will be a bad game, but gameplay wise it's going to be nothing like doom 1 and 2)
Are you saying it isn't Doom because you can play without a mouse? Are you fucking serious?

I just adore the first two games and although their age is clear, they're still ridiculously fun.
My expectations are low for this game. The only news we've heard from id employees is that Zenimax and the higher ups are just fucking them over, all of the structural problems are really clouding over this game and any future ID product.
Not sure why you guys are getting so hyped. Considering Carmack left the studio and how the last Doom turned out, I don't have high expectations to begin with, but this teaser even lowers them further because it's highlighting how 'dark' and 'edgy' the monster is with no real emphasis on anything else. Not sure what you guys want, but I'd prefer if Doom went back to being about playing as a motherfucking kickass space marine who's here to stomp the everloving shit out of some space demon robots.
doom 3 is in my top 20 games so id be more then pleased for a slightly more actiony Doom 3
I just hope they are demons and not aliens
uhh they are demons in doom 3, you even visit hell itself the ruins and stuff on mars are not demonic, they're built by the ancient martian human ancestors who were destroyed by the demons after they built portals, which uac found, copied, and almost repeated if not for the doomguy(s) closing it/them

Somehow I can turn off my suspension of disbelief for blowing away demons from Hell with a shotgun, but when the key to sealing off Hell (again) and saving humanity comes down to a sentient talking cube that eats the souls of demons to power itself that I wield in my hands, it just sorta came off as.. .. Stupid. Probably because ancient alien/ancestor intervention is always just too plot convenient or lazily done in my mind. Aaaand also probably because the original Doom Marine killed Satan himself in the original games, but the marine in Doom 3 can't even scratch the Cyberdemon without the Soulcube. Hell, even the Resurrection of Evil Marine could possibly kill the big ass dragon final boss without using the Artifact in that game.
I hope the shotgun has more oomf to it. Doom 3's just felt weird.
I hope the shotgun has more oomf to it. Doom 3's just felt weird.
The spread on 3's shotgun was so fucking ridiculous it was useless past five meters away.
The spread on 3's shotgun was so fucking ridiculous it was useless past five meters away.
You had to shotgun mouthwash on imps to kill them in one hit. But if it was something bigger, you'd be fine. Maggots were extremely easy to kill since their heads were huge and they walked like they were presenting them for you to shoot them. Plus they were really slow attackers and even just attacked you once. Even zombies were harder, since they sometimes sped up the hand swipe animation and you couldn't even dodge it. Man, I loved Doom 3.
http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-id-Software-RVW4012058.htm Take it with a grain of salt
that does look very worrying.
